[December, 2013] I found this dram in a commercial advents calendar. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 82,5. I took no detailed notes and never bought a commercial advents calender again.

We couldn’t avoid a blend by Diageo now could we. First introduced in 2011 at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, the JW Platinum 18yo was launched internationally via travel retail in 2012. The latest relaunch [Mar ’17], now sees it available in general stores and retailers globally. The Platinum Label is the most recent addition to Diageo's Johnnie Walker blended ‘colour’ range. Unlike Macallan however, it’s got a colour and an age statement. Created by master blender Dr Jim Beveridge WM, it’s made of ‘up to’ 18 different whiskies including Cardhu, Glen Elgin and Auchroisk in the main, Blair Athol and aged island malts. We should get excited by these aged blends, they are an historical trip round Scotland in a bottle, with this one retailing at around £69 [Apr ’17]. N: A fruity & yeasty malt with nicely integrated yet clearly defined smoke - blended malted barley personified. T: It does tighten up initially, taking a while to loosen up. Now i know the main emphasis, the heart of this blend if you like is it’s Speyside malts yet it’s the Island malt[s] that has/have captured my attention today. This is so very Talisker-esque in it's smokiness and sweet-savoury maltiness, and far better than my current Talisker 18 that’s for sure [I’m really struggling with a 2016 batch]. F: Longest finish of the night and the first with a noteworthy mouthfeel. More peated-smoked barley with more Talisker character-style heather and dry vanilla all the way to the end. C: New & re-launched whisky tends to be of higher quality whilst the customer base is being established, and this is really good gear. I may even join that customer base and buy a bottle. It would really benefit from an abv hike though. It rather died in the glass after an hour - but then i guess it's not necessarily intended for long periods of sipping, though there’s plenty to glean given all those components and all them years. A super blend for drinking and sipping and for getting trashed on. Best of the night for me, equal to the Dewar’s. Blog. Scores a C+
Nose:- Reminds me of pomero and grapefruit and Arran Millennium Cask. Soft cocoa and honey, very soft, steady and balance. Hints of ashes. Palate:- Silky and mellow a plus attribute, lightly dust with citrus and vanilla. Finish:- Overall experience capped with almost spotless finishing. Is almost like drinking lightly infused spice water. Medium length. Very gentle, but too gentle and lack the excitement. I will call her a Very Boring Pretty Lady. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

- very good soft blend - great soft sweet note, hardly any smoke present, - in the point evaluation behind the BLUE label, however in the PLV at the time (around € 60) tended to be the better choice
The smoke in the nose must have been an illusion. Behaves like a cheap malt or blend. Rounded, not particularly strong, tasty. Notes from a blind tasting. OK, not young and the smoke was not an illusion. With 46-50% would perhaps even worth his money ...
A tasty, mild, old and good blend!

At first slightly sparkling, then slightly tart with oak, a touch of sweet and fruity. If you take some time for him, it’s not too bad and can be liked. Decaying medium length with a hint of smoke ... |

A very good surprise; Ultra drinkable, and a bit old school. Really unfortunate that dilution spoils the pleasure.
A very well made blend, which certainly would not have landed in my cart for the partially + $ 70 that some merchants call, but for the 44 that I was allowed to pay, I have no regrets. There is a lot more to it than what otherwise the standard malts à la Glenlivet 12, Glenfiddich 12 etc. can offer. A few vol.% More would stand but quite well.

Mature Jasio, all 18 years old. Mild, creamy sweetness with vanilla and cream. A bit of smoke and almonds.
I shouldn't like this, right. I mean, it's owned by a huge corporation that cares more about profits then...yeah, yeah, I know. It's just that it works on some level-the arrival. It's that arrival that makes me want one more sip. That arrival of sweet-sour-bitterness. The price...is it worth it?
