Not bad, not special. At best, the slightly sour nose makes it more interesting.

Nose quite nice, if expressionless. The taste is soft, sparkling, not too sweet, but not round either. The alcohol is a bit pungent and the aftertaste is short and a little sprightly.
Filey Bay Flagship 46% Bourbon cask c.5yo 84 Pair with Against the Grain Nose: green apple, vanilla, hint of sweat, hazelnuts, tutti frutti and penny sweet gummies Palate: honeysuckle, damsons Finish: peach campinos and fig blossom, elderflower jelly With water Nose: more austere, white chocolate, flaked almonds, frangipane and white spray of flowers, apricots, caramelised hazelnuts and 7Up, rosy apples, forced rhubarb and baked apples Palate: green apple, oatmeal with golden syrup, Finish: allspice and white fleshed peaches, Tasted as part of SWC tasting with Spirit of Yorkshire ambassador Amy
Crisp, clean and youthful whisky that bodes very well for the new distillery. Lots of creamy vanilla on the nose, with hints of bubblegum, malted barley and fruit cocktail (the type you get in a tin). Light and spirity on the palate, with more of the wood coming through. Not overly young though. A cooling minty note then emerges before heading to a shortish, but nicely balanced vanilla-led finish.

Filey Bay Flagship 46%. 30ml at home, Sep 2021. Pale yellow. When held up to a white wall it takes on a very pretty, delicate two-tone shade. Aroma is a little bubblegummy at first, hint of custard, cream soda, light nutmeg, the bubblegum note is a little strawberryish. A suggestion of a glass of champagne with a strawberry in it. Rhubarb and custard boiled sweets later on. Fresh and pleasant on the nose, and not as muddled as I'm making it sound. It comes together nicely. Taste is as clean as a whistle. Very low impact on the palate, but not in a 'gloopy' or thin way at all. The initial impact and middle section are almost as clean, easy, delicate and minerally as water. Then very subtle fruity esters. Just the slightest, slightest salt seasoning. On the swallow a little salted rusk biscuit and elderflower comes out. It really takes its time to build on the palate, by which time you've finished your glass. It's just super clean, which is lovely but I would prefer if maybe a touch more was offered on the palate. Still, absolutely no grumbles from me. It's a beautifully made spirit and highly impressive at the age. Not everyone’s cup of tea maybe - you have to like this light style of whisky to appreciate this. It is akin to a really well put together (as in top tier) blended Scotch whisky, but a step up from that. I look forward to seeing what else they can do, as I really enjoyed drinking this. 3.75/89

Here it's already a bit tastier A stormy start with the first sip. Unripe peaches have a distinct (and slightly soapy) taste (this will change as they ripen). Vanilla is present, but more subtle. The second sip is less boisterous and generally more mature. It becomes dusty and maltier. Pleasantly woody |

A lovely, fruity, sweet single malt with a pleasant alcohol content. A definite recommendation even without an age statement.
A youthful bourbon cask whisky. Very pleasant to drink. The profile is vanilla, citrus, and wood. I'm curious to see how the bottlings develop when they're bottled at 10 or 12 years old. Filey Bay has potential. I was particularly impressed by the nose of the flagship.

A very pleasant nose. Typical bourbon maturation. Vanilla, honey. Fresh with citrus notes, slightly grassy. This is a dram you could happily linger over. Truly enjoyable. |

The palate delivers on the promise of the nose: vanilla, honey, citrus notes, and the sweetness of light, not-quite-ripe fruits. It has a very pleasant, slightly oily mouthfeel. However, you then notice its relatively young age. A slight tingling sensation sets in, and the oak imparts a subtle bitterness. |

The finish is short to medium. The sweetness lingers, but so does a tart, woody spice with a slight bitterness. |

A good, honest malt. Filey Bay has potential, and I hope to be able to try some older bottlings sometime.
I finished this young English single malt in less than a month! Easy drinking, bright, spirity (in a good way), and a little effervescent. The flavor of pineapple bubblegum comes to mind even though I’ve never had pineapple bubblegum. A promising young distillery.
