В аромате — кожа, табак, «пыльные книги» и выраженная старомодная патина, поверх которой идут миндальное масло, тёртый фундук, апельсиновая цедра, мандарины, мёд и пчелиный воск, цветочные и травяные ноты (мята, чай), а также кислинка сырого ревеня и жёлтой сливы. Вкус плотный, маслянисто-сиропный: мёд, персик, засахаренные фрукты, тёмный шоколад, белый перец, лакрица и пряный дуб, который у нескольких дегустаторов читается как едва уловимый древесный дымок; 28 лет не оборачиваются излишней дубовостью, а солёная, морская нотка неоднократно отмечается как характерная. Послевкусие долгое, тёплое, сладко-пряное, без горечи и вяжущести. Многие настаивают, что образцу необходима вода — она добавляет округлости и стоит 2–3 баллов. Опытные оценки тесно сгруппированы в диапазоне 88–93 и сходятся на цельности и «винтажном» обаянии напитка; расхождения невелики и касаются в основном силы спирта — кому-то он временами кажется резким. Общий рефрен и у авторитетных, и у остальных: вещь отличная, но заметно уступает 30-летнему выпуску (тот получал до 93). Наиболее критичный из авторитетных нашёл этот розлив более диким, спиртуозным, травянисто-луговым и менее округлым, чем официальный 30-летний, и поставил 85, тоже указав на обязательность разбавления. Менее опытные держатся тех же 84–94 с центром около 90, добавляя восторги о гармонии и яркости нюансов; ниже среднего опускаются лишь единичные отзывы, называющие виски приятным, но недостаточно сложным для своего возраста.

What a great piece, you have to go on a long search these days to find that wonderful old fashioned feel (if you can still find it at all).
Нос 91 Wow, what a nose: leather, tobacco, dusty books. Appears old fashioned in a pleasant way. Almond butter, grated hazelnuts, orange peel, tangerines. Add some cinnamon and coriander, chervil and basil.
Вкус 91 Lies quickly and almost furry on the tongue. Roasted orange peel, almond butter, pecans, grated nutmeg. Here, too, it seems elderly in an absolutely positive sense, almost out of date, at least from today's point of view (bottled 20 years ago and distilled in 1975 is also a word), whereby the 28 years are not noticeable through a woodiness. Oak notes are present - and they are so spicy that one is almost inclined to interpret a subtle smoky note into the taste - but they fit wonderfully into the picture and act as a catalyst for the other aromas.
Финиш 90 Long and with spicy wood, roasted orange peel, almonds and pecans, some smoke, plus leather, flavored tobacco, almond chocolate.

Beautiful whisky, very intense, fruity, sweet, very full and powerful.
Нос 90 Fruity, organic, mossy. Floral as well, and prunes, rhubarber, strong alcohol, spicy. Honey sweet too. Then also mint, and tea.

Финиш 90 Still strong and intense, sweet and now also a clear hint of smoke. Licorice. Long finish. Still very intense.

Lovely profile. More honey and wax compared to the 30-year-old, and also more creamy. I can't say that I like it less than that one.

[September, 2018] It is always a little tricky which dram you select first after you arrived in Scotland because there are so many expectations and pleasant anticipations that even an excellent dram can easily loose against these. Or a rather average dram gets completely over-rated due to the great setting your are in when enjoying it. This year I selected this 28-years old Glen Ord at the bar of the famous Craigellachie hotel because I had the 30-years old Glen Ord several years ago and it was a perfect choice… ...and this is a good one either! It is not as good as the 30-years old (WB id 3030 that I scored flabbergasting 93 points) but still it is a great dram. The fruits are not as lush as with the 30y but still fine and enjoyable and there is a surprisingly salty touch with the neat dram. Water is essential on this release and good for a 2-3 points difference in my score (I always score what I like best - either the neat or reduced dram). Funnily, this whisky reminds me in a lot of aspects of a 28-years old Pulteney (WB id 22392) that I had just recently...
Нос 90 The nose is a little punchy first but after your olfactory cells adapted to that a fine and balanced profile of malty and fruity aromas shows up with lots of salty notes and other spices. After adding some water the punchiness is completely gone but the salty touch too, unfortunately...
Вкус 91 The palate is much more fruity than the nose with fine barley sugars and honeys added. Later the spices and herbs join in but the taste is less salty than the nose (but still the salt is clearly detectable - given it is not there at all. Scientists never ever found any salt NaCl in any whisky they analysed.). Some water turns the taste smoother and more balanced - I like it much more when it is somewhat reduced.
Финиш 90 The initial mouthfeel is warming and (just) a little coating with minor peppery moments. The finish is rather long and more sugary with no bitter or astringent feelings. It is nicely chewable and again it profits from a reduced abv. Water is essential on this dram, actually.

Raw Rhubarb I confess, when I put my hands on this bottle, I was not immediately aware that it was in fact released as one of those famous Diageo Special Releases. Admittedly it was a long time ago: it appeared in the early series of 2003. Therefor I’m also a bit surprised you can still find it today, albeit with a hefty price tag of 350 to 450 EUR. The nose is a pleasant surprise with some floral elements up front, joined quickly by sweet and sour notes of raw rhubarb, honey, fruit tea, mirabelles and some fresh mint. It also reminds me a bit of moss on a wet rock in the sun. Hint of thyme in the back. Saliva glands: start your engines. It’s pretty oily in the mouth. Syrupy! Lots of honey and peach now, but also something pretty old school with a touch of woodsmoke. Caramelized ginger, white pepper and liquorice. Very power, but does not need water. Sweet and sour at the same time, but very well balanced. Even in the long finish it remains intense and the woodsmoke takes care of warming your mouth. Intense indeed. Delicious flavor experience. Impressive malt from Glen Ord.

Once again I was able to feel his sweet notes in the context of his two brothers, 25 and 30 years old. And I remembered why I liked him so much the first time. There is harmony in every note, which makes me incredibly happy.

Serge says: Glen Ord 28 yo (58.3%, OB, 2003) Colour: pale gold. Nose: this is a wilder but also more brutal version of Glen Ord. More spirity, herbal, grassy at first nosing, much less rounded and sexy than the rather recent official 30yo. Whiffs of mint… This one desperately needs water I think., let’s see… yes, it worked this time. Not that it got completely transformed but we do have more roundness, a little liquorice, nice tannins, smoked tea, cake but also hints of ‘farminess’ (wet hay and all that jazz)… Mouth (neat): closer to the Cadenhead now but more complex. We do have lots of caramel and vanilla as well as crystallised fruits but also something herbal and waxy. An extra-dismension but the whole is very strong. Water please… It got really rounder and sweeter this time, with more chocolate and apricot jam, honey… Finish: coherent, cereally and caramelly, with a little chamomile tea and gingerbread. Very good but if there’s one worth your savings, it’s the 30 yo OB I think. 85 points.

Why only 87 points? No idea, I've tried the malt a few times now. I'm just too keen. A malt of 28 years in my eyes, or better in the throat not so burn '. Opinions differ, both in cars, in women, and in whisky. This whisky is not mine. He has a decent oak load, which I do not dislike, even if it is on the palate already very 'bitter', but in the end, the whole package is still too sharp (even throttled to about 50% vol). That's why, only '87 points, which is not bad per se. At the price, I expect a palate party.

So Glen Ord 28 years, distilled in 1975.. I was expectin (or maybe hoping) a bit more from the taste. The nose is real nice and delicate. Taste and finish not bad eather..

What. A. Nose. The rest can't keep up, but still a great experience overall. From a 3cl commercial sample.
Нос 94 Beautiful musty/dusty fruitness, with stone fruits that remind me of the 1972 Teaninich Rare Malts 23yo; the distilleries are pretty near neighbours. Hugely sweet, almost perfumed and increasingly waxy - great complex development. Wet pebbles, some faint dirty smoke, marshmallows and caramel wafers. Water brings out a big wave of smoked toffee, spices (mace?), warm and slightly fermenting hay and general farminess.
Вкус 91 Less sweet than the nose suggests, initially quite closed and mineral. Adding water gives it a rounded waxy elegance. Eventually sweetens with fresh apricot and crisp green apple, slightly effervescent.
Финиш 90 Very long, sweeter again, barbour jacket. The aftertaste is slightly drying and bitter.

Smell: citrus jam, tobacco, rustic smoky scent, cinnamon barley, slight peat (a little bit of floral and soapy feeling) Taste: Peat mixed with sweetness and aroma, slightly fruity, sweet and sour barley nut oil (sweet and sour lasts for a long time) (Does it feel slightly soapy after waking up? Similar to Bowmore) Tail: Very long wood smoke, perfect aging, rustic feeling, malt, peat, sour and sweet, with oxidation, it is a flower bomb, sticky and wonderful rustic smell

The wine has a nearly perfect body and is not greasy to drink. It is undoubtedly a top-notch wine.
Нос 86 Butter cookies, maltose, toast, some waxy texture and a little peat in the middle (mainly sweet, with a little bacon saltiness and a hint of smoke), a little floral soap and a slight sense of black tea at the end. Glen Ord SR 25yo has a very well-balanced and refreshing fruity scent. The palate is dominated by strong fruit, with a nectar-like white petal sweetness and a long, long finish. (89) This flavor profile isn't particularly special, but this wine lacks any distinctive characteristics; its flavor is noticeable. (88.5) Glen Ord SR 28yo has a relatively tight aroma with hints of stone, licorice, saltpeter, and aged walnut oil, interspersed with fruit flavors. 88.5 The second one is interesting. The initial taste is fruity and bouncy, followed by a distinct licorice and herbal aftertaste—a unique flavor that adds a lot of fun to the simple fruity notes. 89.5 89 Glen Ord SR 30yo has a more closed aroma; more accurately, the flavor is less pronounced than the previous two, with walnut oil and fruit being the most prominent. 87 The initial flavor is very similar to the first one, with a noticeable fruity acidity that the first one didn't have. It also has a slightly bitter base with white petals, which is quite nice, but not as good as the previous two. (87)

Nose: The nose is very smooth, delicate, refined, creamy. Vanilla, honey sweetness, mixed grass hay, meadow flowers, pepper mix, ginger, light minerality and oak. Palate: the taste, in contrast to the calm nose, is striking in its brightness, riot of colors and pressure. It is spicy, honeyed, with vanilla, honey sweetness, with echoes of sunflower seed cake, pastry, florality, white pepper, lemon zest, ginger and pleasant tannins. Finish: sweet-creamy, honey-floral, spicy, peppery with pastry and vanilla. Balance: a complex, balanced, aged and slightly closed whisky that requires patience and attention. It is very well made, but does not catch or make a splash. Perhaps the sample size and my experience were not enough to reveal its full potential. N22, P22, F21, B22
