В аромате доминируют фрукты — банан, яблоко, груша, абрикос, цитрусовая цедра и засахаренный цитрус, оттенки тропических фруктов, к которым добавляются ваниль, марципан, сухие травы, сено, воск и намёк на выпечку; опытные ревьюеры особо отмечают садовые фрукты, ячменный сахар и удачный баланс. Во вкусе — маслянистая, сливочная текстура с ощутимой, но приятной сладостью, банан, ананас, персик, яблоко, апельсиновая цедра, пряности (имбирь, перец), ореховое масло и грецкий орех, лёгкий табак; послевкусие долгое, тёплое, фруктовое, с дубовой пряностью, танинами, мятой и гвоздикой. Хвалят прежде всего насыщенную фруктовость, зрелый баланс и хорошую питкость; один опытный автор ценит именно сдержанную, интегрированную хересность в противовес типичным для новых Гленротс перенасыщенным хересным разливам. Расхождения невелики: большинство оценок укладывается в узкий диапазон 87–91, опытные ставят чуть выше (88–90) и подчёркивают баланс и фруктовость. Основная критика единична и исходит от менее авторитетного автора — упрёки в нехватке глубины, молодости, бледности, избытке цветочно-луговых тонов и кислой, пыльной, спиртуозной ноте. Несколько человек независимо отмечают заметную спиртуозность, неожиданную для крепости около 51%, которая смягчается каплей воды. В целом оценки согласованны, а мнения опытных и остальных совпадают по сути профиля.

Fruity, spicy and powerful - pretty good!
Нос 89 Citric, banana, vanilla, cereals, dry hay, hints of butterscotch, green apple, green papaya, spices, little herbs, little leafy, pepper - really not bad
Вкус 91 Oily, creamy, banana, good sweetness, fruity, pineapple, peach, vanilla, custard cream, yellow apple, spices, cookie dough, cigar tobacco, pepper, ginger, herbs - very good

There is a lack of depth, the age seems young, the whisky is pale. Too many floral and meadow tones. Sour, dusty, alcoholic.

Not an overly large range of aromas, but a beautifully mature balance and very tasty on the palate. Reminds me of similarly aged Speyside Distillery malts.
Нос 87 Dried fruits, tart herbs, dried orange slices. Slightly older lemon tea granules and beeswax.
Вкус 89 Rather quickly dry, with dates and chopped almonds, then a great wood oiliness develops. Walnut oil is also included.
Финиш 86 Tannins, mint and cloves come to the fore with white pepper.

Although, weirdly, this seems not special, this is overall very good and also extremely drinkable. I finished the bottle quickly and enjoyed it greatly.

Well, usually not the biggest fan of Glenrothes, as most of the recent bottlings I've been tasting go right into the sherry-bomb category. Not my cup of tea, honestly. Here it's different, the sherry is well integrated and not overwhelming . And there's a special turn to it, in this respect that with a friend we tried first a sample of this against 172789 (Glenrothes Sb 1997-2019). And you know what, our feeling was that both ratings on the Sansibar-site had been mixed up. Before re-ordering some full bottles, we even opened one of this 1996 to be sure we wouldn't be filling our respective caves with the "wrong" bottle. Don't get me wrong, 172789 is perfectly fine, but more strongly on sherry profile, and less fruity for me. Tastebuds, funny things. Anyways, this one here is by far my preferred recent Glenrothes, hence the multiple bottles bought, despite it's not on the cheap side.
Нос 89 I'm immediately thinking of Grand Marnier : some Cognac, with lots of orange peel. More fruits coming up afterwards, pears mainly spring to mind, but also some apricots. Wasn't it for a somewhat punchy alcoholic note, I'd be in 90+ territory for sure. A little water (not doing this very often at low fifty percentages) opens it up though, fresh fruit salad with lots of oranges.
Вкус 90 Powerful alcohol, surprisingly so after this kind of ageing and only 51,1%. Green apples, orange zest, some raisins. With water: still punchy, but now in a better way. Opens up the fruity combo of oranges, apricot, green apple and.. lots of others. 89 without, 90-91 with a few drops of water.
Финиш 91 Some woody notes building up, but then fading again to let the fruits take over again. Some marzipan into the mix as well. With water: same territory, but more in a continuous way, less wood for me. I'd say my perfect drinking strength here was around 45%, which is low in my book. But then, I really love it.

Nose: Fruits, bananas, apples, tropical fruits. Taste: A good dose of fruit, bananas, and mango pineapple. The aroma is quite strong. Some spices in the background but nicely matching the fruity. Rating: 89 | 100 Finish long fruity. Nice bottle for this price, about 150 e.
