Старомодный хересный купаж: сухофрукты, старое дерево, кожа, специи, какао — легко пьётся, но качество нестабильно от партии к партии, и слабые бутылки уходят в металлическую горечь и растворитель.

В аромате характерный херес с изюмом, мадеризованными фруктами, кофе, ванилью и лёгким дымком, поверх старого дерева и намёка на специи; вкус у хороших образцов даёт «взрыв» дерева, карамели, какао, старой кожи и компота из вишни, яблок и чёрной смородины с пряной основой. Послевкусие — слабое место даже у удачных бутылок: ноты быстро рассеиваются и уплощаются, что многие связывают с сильным разбавлением. Хвалят питкость, честный старомодный хересный профиль и цену (около 29,99), критикуют короткое послевкусие и подозревают разные партии.
Ключевое расхождение проходит не столько между опытными и остальными, сколько между удачными и бракованными бутылками. Один из самых авторитетных авторов ставит низкую оценку и описывает свежую краску, пыльные книги и растворитель, считая образец дефектным; другой опытный, наоборот, называет виски безупречным старомодным хересом и прямо пишет о разных партиях. Средние оценки колеблются широко (от 49 до 86), и даже критики признают приятный хересный аромат, но жалуются на металлическую горечь, танины и ноту оконного очистителя во вкусе. Согласие есть в том, что при удачной партии это простой, но добротный питкий херес за свои деньги.

[December, 2019] I won a bottle of this older Lidl discount store release during a regular Doppelkopf&Whisky gaming night (the loser is obliged to provide the winner with a cheap but in his opinion interesting bottle of whisky). And what to say about this? Not bad at all! I had a lot of much worser drams during the last 25 years and this one is simple but flawless old-school sherried whisky. It seems as if there are different batches because some members report horrible flaws in nose and/or taste, luckily my bottle is from a good one. This is delicious and very, very quaffable old-style sherry which reminds me a little of the great paxarette-improved drams of the past (maybe they did it for Lidl again, because the paxarette-ban is not that explicit...). Anyhow, I like to quaff it when I am in the mood for an easy-going tasty dram.

On the nose, spices, maderized fruits, a little wood a little smoked, then the characteristic Sherry fills the nostrils! In the mouth, explosion of wood, rather strong spices, caramel, cocoa and old leather, it's really ... after a good feeling! Sensation of being above a compote of cherries, apples and cassis a little caramelized. In the final, small disappointment because of scents that disperse quickly, in fact I was waiting a little more years on the bottle! But the impression for a blend remains very satisfying. A dram of good quality, resembling a Glenalba who has taken his years and more, even if the significant reduction makes him lose at the final level.

I like the nose. It smells like an old sherried whisky is supposed to smell. Maybe a little too oily for my liking though. After the initial sherry taste there is an explosion of VERY unpleasant metallic bitterness, window cleaner and tannins. If you can soldier through that you get some leather and old wood notes that are not as horrible. The finish lingers slightly unpleasantly but is much better than the taste. Honestly I was thinking this whisky would be better than its reputation and the haters were just hating to hate. But boy, they were not. You have been warned!

Flat at first, then jumbled, all at once old wood, many fruits, dryness. Does it happen to more than 40%. Leathery with compote, slowly flattening. For 29.99 always worth more than his money. Would give 84 out of 100, with the PLV 89.
