[September, 2021] Out of curiosity I do a sampling of all new Diageo "Flora & Fauna" series releases. Older bottlings have been of a chequered quality with some highlights (e.g., Mortlach, Dailuaine, Benrinnes or Rosebank) and some sub-standard stuff... ...and this new edition belongs to the latter again, just like the Auchoisk and Teaninich. It offers some more impressions than the other two but still this is not what I would call a standard malt quality. Again it seems as if Diageo used a lot of rather exhausted casks to create this batch. So "Where Have All the Good Casks Gone?" (remember Pete Seeger?).

The colour is pale straw and the nose offers a (somewhat) better profile than both the Auchroisk and Teaninich but still this is rather sub-standard. Beside the sugary-mashy and bitter wooden impressions there are some fine fresh fruits (green apples) and some hints of honeys. Still this is not impressive but it is worth to take a sniff, at least. |

The taste is very sweet mainly on barley sugars with some honey and fruity flavours which enrich the profile nicely, this is much better than both the Auchroisk and Teaninich. Later some spices join in and a shy milk chocolatey impression lurks in the background. |

The initial mouthfeel is warming with a noticeable coating effect and some hot peppery moments which are not distracting. The finish is short to medium and adds some more chocolatey notes and a minor drying-astringent feeling towards the end (tannins). Forget about water, it just flattens everything. |
Aroma Very fruity, acidity, spicy oak, some alcohol Taste Very fruity, sweet, overripe fruit, young, alcoholic Finish sharpness stays on the tongue

nose: vegetal, earthy, fresh fruit from the orchard, slightly cooked honey, a little toasted mouth: honey, creamy, spicy, very sweet, with fragrant dried herbs slight bitterness on the kernel of the almond, watery and creamy sensation, fine spices, a little greasy white chocolate final: heat on the palate, the spices come back on the front, the bitterness remains, the malt and a sparkling return, quite short in fact.

COLOUR: white wine (without dye) [W] a good Speyside single malt, probably matured in bourbon casks, unfortunately hardly any aftertaste [PL] at approx. 53€ it's really a board for a rather little-known 12-year-old single malt, and it doesn't meet the demands it arouses , therefore too expensive, not bad but an Aberlour or Knockando 12 J. are comparable with better PLV
...I think they were refill ex bourbon casks - they have an interesting, very cleanly distilled, fruity malt here - soft, smooth, beautiful.... it doesn't overwhelm you, but it doesn't have to hide from peers either...

Very floral. Lots of refill. Lots of wood. Pleasant basic character. But rather special.

As with the other F&F bottlings (with the exception of the Benrinnes and Glenlossie), Diageo serves barrels from the leftover ramp here. The fact that prices from 42 to a good 50 € are called for this shows that you can still make good money with sucking barrels.

Very light, pure and light-fruity, with a good will one can imagine a touch of honey. Very, very far from spectacular. |

Hay, earth and some fruit, which are quickly covered by spices. In contrast to the hs305, I find the Mannochmore not "much better" in taste than the Teaninich, but at least just as flat. |

An OK, middle of the road, 12y inoffensive/safe bourbon matured whisky, with lack of real character. Must be very good for blending.

Maybe a bit watery but other than that you can taste the wood influence and the finish is longer than anticipated. Fun malt for sipping and a good alternative to the usual suspects of the entry level category.

Classic, unsurprising, but very pleasant, very smooth on the palate. Just as it says on the bottle...Smooth and mellow taste.

Very simple - soft, subtle and dry, a bit of cask Speyside - a sort of "applied" whisky, good for good conversation
A good drinkable but petty bourbon whisky.
Odour: Orange zest, quite complex, grain (tone), sweetish basic tone, very much like the smoky note in the base Taste: spicy, fruity, dense, according to bitter note, average reverberation Colour: pastel gold, medium water's edge, clear

Pleasant on the nose with bright fruits, floral hints, and a lovely sweetness. Juicy on the palate with notes of red apples and pears, and the sweetness of powdered sugar. Fresh lemon zest, perhaps a touch of bergamot. Floral, with hints of rosewater. The finish offers spicy oak, a touch of vanilla, and a hint of honey. A simple whisky that doesn't do anything wrong. Beginners can get a similar taste experience for less.
