Traditional production, craft presentation and outstanding quality - it's hard not to like Springbank. Ever-changing, dense and complex, the nose is a true chameleon. Gentle peatiness, crisp apples and bitter herbs harmonize with sweet malt, old leather and mineral-earthy notes. Tasting strong, aromatic and spirit-driven (no rough edges), this young Campbeltown malt combines well-integrated peat smoke, mild fruitiness and hints of salt with a robust, substantial and chocolaty finish. It's simply one of the best core range releases you can find these days! RATING: 4.2/5.0 stars ≙ 89 pts → FIRST-CLASS [+]

He smells great, mild, fruity, reminds me of a Laddie Ten, feels a hint of smoke, very pleasant. I notice now only the oily streaks that run down the glass, probably rather untypical for a young 10s. A first sip shows me why Springbank is one of the most popular distilleries. Fruity, oak, marzipan, spices. By no means alcoholic he stays pleasant long on tongue and palate. Amazingly soft and round for his age. Great!

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2026/05/08/more-tooon-action-before-imminent-arrival/ N: Straight out of the blocks with a keen commitment to fresh fruit, aided no end by what seems like predominantly ex-bourbon cask action – some casks more active than others, naturally. Taking quite some time to open up, as the bottle made its way to the heel, we saw less of the fruit bowl and more towards a more gentle hessian/leathery~fusty > farmy side, if ultimately establishing itself as the most chiselled I’ve known SB10 – faithful/honest/youthful stuff. T: An elemental yet subtle-complex series of moving parts, never too much vanilla custard, never too little gumption [neat]; the crisp/grassy/citric snap is soon massaged by waxy malt. F: A stalwart malty citrus delivery drives us headstrong towards the finish line, the initial pepperiness easing off towards the bottle’s demise. Leaning much more towards the savoury mashy/flour side at this stage, the fruitiness attempts to transition from apple~pear to lightly peated grapefruit and a little banana [a note perhaps encouraged by vanilla]. A menthol-fresh, ashy peatiness, at times, leans more towards chlorine and Polo Mint and to tequila-like territory; barley-sugared dusted peat ripples thereafter. C: SB10s elemental 2022 release wasn’t immediately joyous [neither for the beginner nor the avid fan, as tried & tested], taking weeks if not months to settle down. Regardless, SB10 remains one of the best official tens out there.
N- Burnt caramel and choking antiseptic smokes. Nutty and asparagus. Peaches and lemon drops with fresh mint. Coastal peat. More of bourbon cask influence on the nose. P- Fiery and explosive. Lush of pepper. chili flakes, salty peat and acidic citrus fruits. Very spicy and waxy. The house style of bold and unbending classic. F- Long, spicy and intense. Echoing and gum twitching tannin from sherry cask remains. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

2011 bottling Nose: A fruity and creamy nose, with a little peat smoke and quite some heat and mineral acidity. Taste: again the cream and fruit from the nose (oranges and strawberries), some peat and quite peppery. Finish: a medium aftertaste with spices, some nuttiness and medicinality. Pretty dry. An age of 12 years would probably be better for this standard bottling of Springbank (works perfectly in the cask strength as well), as the current experience (but mainly the nose) could do with a little less heat.

Excellent lemonade citrus molt, simple, funny and sunny.
Excellent whisky, period. Concerning minerality and funky oiliness one of the best in that price range and at that age. Campbeltownian handcraft at its rustic best. Not for the uninitiated though, since this Springbank might appear a tad austere at first to those who are used to either accessible, easy-drinking exBourbon malts or smoke monsters.

So if I have the courage to compare the old bottlings, I have to say that this one is no longer quite as qualitative. This one had more glue that was annoying to me. Didn't old. Malt and biscuits were good here too with the light smoke. But not that round

My bottle does not have any kind of code (bottling date, bottle code) printed on it, strangely. However, I believe it was purchased in 2012. It also has been open for a good 10 years; fill level was still at two thirds when I reviewed it.

The nose is lovely: linden honey, a hint of Vicks lemon drops. The honey is gone from the taste, and the grain comes through much more strongly. The finish is unfortunately dry and bitter.
Great Springbank. Has all the typical Springbank characteristics. IMHO only topped by the Longrow Peated in value for money what Springbank whisky is concerned.

The first scents directly draw you into the glass. Wow! Thick and meaty! It reminds me of roasted chicken or well-filled chicken soup, smoked ham, and barbecued meat with sweet and sour sauce. Hints of peat follow, definitely not coming from Islay, rather fruitier and sweeter. A smouldering fire after roasting some paprika’s, pineapple of honey-glazed chicken. The peat is accompanied by a combination of sweet pears and tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, unripe peaches and bananas). Before becoming too sweet, there are sour & salty herbal notes of green tea and soya sauce entering the nose. The interplay of the different layers is absolutely beautiful. |

A lovely thick mouthfeel with a heavy palette containing ashy peat, peppery spices, briny saltiness and sweet & sour. We love it already! It is quite different from the nose with less fruit and more spices, in particular at the end of each sip. The development brings pepper and tabasco, but also more herbal notes of sweet paprika and rocket lettuce. There is a chalky, dusty trail in the background, which I find very Springbank-like. After a while the sweet fruitiness decides to join the party. I can be wrong, but at some moment I thought I even recognised bubblegum. The palate has a lovely complexity and incredible full character for such a relatively young whisky. |

Springbank 10. At Scotia Bar, Glasgow, March 2019 at a very good price. Aroma has some wax and paraffin, subtle esters. Taste is huge menthol up front, Halls Soothers, medicinal with soft peat and subtle paraffin. Definitely interesting with nice level of integrated smoke ... prickly salty boozy linger ... works well enough. 3.4/81

Among the young beginner whiskys from the rougher climes (Bunnahabhain 12y, Benromach 10y 100 Proof, etc.) the Springbank can be found in the spicy-bitter corner. Anyway, a strong, clear statement that makes you want more from this distillery ...

Just great really. Whatever they do at Springbank is how it’s done right.
The Springbank 10 is pretty much the most complex and powerful whisky of this age group, which I've come across so far. Sure, about 40 EUR for a ten-year whisky is not a bargain, but you get for a very traditional and arty sophisticated whisky from a distillery, in which the malting of the barley until the labels are made everything on site from one source.
Springbank 10 2015/16 vs 2025 (batch 25/32) An old punk who has been to more than one concert vs. A younger, more feisty and impulsive punk. *Bottles opened at the same time, tested on different days. *Anyone familiar with Springbank lugs knows that differences can appear in batches at least twice a year. How does it compare after 10 years? I didn't expect such a difference. If I were to keep one? I don't know. I think it's 2015, but that might be because I'm very familiar with the new ones after 2021 and the "new taste" effect has kicked in. This is my umpteenth pair, and I always restock my stash when I find one at a good price. The older one brought a new lease on life. Is it better? Different. Two different flavors. I did not list common features, I focused more on the differences. The older one may be more drinkable – considering that someone is not fond of the newer version and its "characteristic wildness". After many tests: a draw, with a small plus (0.5 points) for 2015 (taking into account the whole thing – 2015 is deeper in the middle, more dignified, despite a larger palette in the nose in the new version of 2025). PS. I recommend both. It's important not to overpay for a product that's designed to lure consumers into a trap—unavailability/uniqueness/price. In a few years, Springbank might be surprised to see who's hot on its heels.

The fruit is more nectarine, with plenty of tasty green apple, and a touch of Clynelish waxiness. The character is more earthy, with more notes of salty sea, lemon sprinkled with sugar… delicate cherries. 2025: Fruits more mango, pineapple, melon, apricot, and peach, overall more tropical notes. More intense nose. |

2015: Much more salty and sweeter notes, much less of the bitterness of the new Springbanks. Perhaps this famous funk has a completely different character, more smoky. More structured, less edgy. The flavor is rich with various types of nuts. A blueberry. 2025: More oily, with much more bourbon notes. I'd say it's a younger, more aggressive whisky. There's definitely more fruit here, like apricot and peach. Smoke? Smoke notes present varying characteristics. In 2015, it's warmer, more delicate, more salty, and there's a lot of it, but in a smaller concentration. In 2025, it's more "eye-stinging," fresher, and denser. Funk? In 2015, it's more raw, warehouse-like, basement-like, earthy, factory-like. In 2025, it's more tropical, lively, jazzy, |

Whisky with an ambiguous character that combines fruit sweetness, grass to earthy character and a bit of smoky peat from Islay. To me, however, it is totally insignificant and I do not mind the sharpness. I did not feel very impressed, HP 12 was better.
Subtle, classic dram! Despite having tried a lot of older, more expensive or sought after drams, this has to be one of the all time classic "daily drams". The price/performance is very high (like Lagavulin 16 or Talisker 10 imho). The saltiness and leather notes are fantastic. For me young Springbank is a must have!

Then buttery soft, creamy, round and smooth - to grow back to faintly smoke / smoke. Turns out: that I had a bottle of it ((2016, empty after year) Turns out I'm pretty consistent in my taste notes, I really did not know - and I write about the same things, life can be so beautiful. Small pleasures, excellent glass of whisky, then and now.

Very fleshy mineral on the nose, with associations of puffed rice. In the background light fruity notes (apricot?), Which increasingly come to the fore. I can't find the alleged peat smoke, maybe the form of the day? Slightly sour in the mouth, then also subtle ash notes that indicate the smoke. Relatively mild, almost watery. Finally, in the finish, more pronounced ash, with light notes of wood and grain. Behind it again subtle fruit. Length: 4/10 Standard that takes getting used to, but it is quite variable. The 12 year old cask strength, which I would also prefer, is more accessible. Grade: 2
Batch 14/525 Nose: Light and almost "clean", cereals, hay, Brazil nut, smoke, flint, magnesium torch, mineral, chalk, rock salt, stalactite, damp cellar, a beautiful ethereal note of lemon oil, caramel syrup becomes clearer and vanilla comes, battery acid, fresh "granny Smith "apple, then American oak and" pleasant "solvents Mouth: Light, fresh, lively onset, yet oily, Brennereibetont, but not alcoholic, the nose is again, salty, dry, bitter, "thick" caramel, the texture feels heavier, it comes fresh amer. Oak barrels, magnesium tablets, graphite lubricants, grapefruit steaks, subtle fruity notes that will become clearer and more exotic over time (passion fruit, pineapple) finish: bitter, tingling, dry, slightly smoky, oak becomes clearer, some cereals Comments: (No / very little water) initially looks young with little sense of touch, but not immature, gradually the malt becomes more "substantial", harder. "Original, crafty, straightforward, honest", great as well as the smoke is involved, I think of a engine room of a diesel ship on the sea. I do not remember a malt that is so mineral. Behind the great caramel sweetness with interesting-subtle fruitiness. Nice to be able to get something for relatively little money.

The first bottle I bought blind from the local after a rather tiring end of a first whisky-autumn. Made me realize again why I was doing this, just amazing quality: though it is more expensive than some, I can honestly say it is one of the best price-quality-ratios there are at the moment. In my experience the current quality of their distillate is of quite uniquely high standard. No colorant, chill filtration nor under 46% volumes, no NASs, marketing frenzy or other bullshit, just what I am willing to pay for: quality malt whisky.
Best 10yo I tried so far, it is very nicely balanced. As mentioned by others, adding water does wonders for this quite young fellow. The nose is challenging, I got salty sweet spicy notes, definitely cinnamon and some smoke very far in the back. The arrival is vanilla sweet (especially after adding sufficient water), then it develops to a more spicy nutmeg note with some pepper and more saltiness. Finish is quite long, smoke comes back a bit and the peppery note lasts through the whole finish.

As already mentioned, the Springbank 10 will of course be good for me. But in order to fake a certain neutrality, I would like to stress that Springbank is also able to fill whiskys that do not convince me - in recent years these were the special bottlings Hazelburn 9 Barolo, as well as Hazelburn 13 Oloroso and the Longrow Red 13 aus'm Malbecfass ... yes, call me crazy, but the Red was nothing to me
This is really a STUNNING malt! The only malt I bought a second botlle of so far for enjoyment guarantee later! The thing is that it's not exeptionally in comparison to others, but it is with others in it's price range! And it's very consistent in nose/taste/finish performance, great balance. Great BFYB whisky. It's got some tropical peatyness over it and a smooth oily mouth feel. Only thing is that in my opinion quite a lot of water has to be added to take off the peppery punch you otherwise get, beware of this if you get to taste it! But no harm is done by the water, it makes it a delightful dram!
