Good stuff but I preferred the 10. If you want a more restrained Talisker than the 10 year, get this one.
Dre73 81 07 mar 2016 11:08 pm
This whisky smells quite pleasant, but comes in at the first nip then hard inside with a sharp taste, restores some in the body by the sweeter undertone (in addition to the predominantly sharper pepper), but in the finish remains especially sharp. In itself I can amuse myself with it, but too little balance and too much sharpness to really enjoy it.

Light golden color. There is a certain oiliness in the structure.
Нос 87 Subtle smoke. Citrus. Grilled and salted citrus. Sea life. Sea salt. Sea breeze. A pinch of spice. White pepper. Minerality. A hint of seaweed. Salted lemon. Vanilla pudding, less sweet but with a pinch of salt. On subsequent sampling, a "softer" impression on the nose. More vanilla and citrus. Less spice, salt, and smoke.
Вкус 86 Smoke. More and more over time. Sea life. Sea salt. Sea breeze. Peat. Spices. Black pepper. Seaweed. Minerality. Citrus. Salted and grilled lemons. Wood burning in the fire. More black pepper. Ginger. A touch of chili. Salty vanilla pudding. Light oiliness.
Финиш 87 Salty vanilla pudding. Grilled citrus. Salted lemon. Sea salt. Minerality. A fishing boat moored on the seashore. Oak, but again, as if an oak barrel had been salted from the inside. Quite a long finish.

'Still My Talisker Of Choice' N: Much like the 10yo, but sweeter and more chalky. A bourbon sweetness shadows the usual Talisker characteristics, namely - saline, maritime, beefy nose with a hint of mature peat. Very Bladnochesque with bubblegum. Clotted cream - 'live' cultures - a mature fresh, rain water on grass [smiley face]…. oily charred peat. T: Much sweeter bourbon which is more balanced against its maritime characteristics than the 10yo.  Honey and wood spice coats the whole palate with fresh straw to boot. Spices now, cumin seeds, anise, cinnamon and turmeric - thats the dryness! F: Bourbon cocoa notes mingled with white pepper and chilli remain lingering and tingling. Mint, dusky oily peat, wood smoke and herbal notes linger too. Lots of salt at the end, coupled with a toffee/cocoa/vanilla sweetness. Zing……… Beetroot, valerian, oily, malty, smouldering peat. ooh, aniseed just appeared and spearmint! C: Its not overly complex, less so than the standard 10, but its no problem because this dram is alive! - a mouth numbing brute and full of 'Skye in a glass' character, fantastic. For sheer audacity, its still my Talisker of choice. Not dissimilar to the Distiller's edition after water is added, but more assured. This got better and better as the  bottle went down. Scores an A-

must have degraded terribly - I can not understand the older notes - young broth smells of cereal, roasted flour and citrus - without charm and depth. The Alk burns bissl - even with a lot of water still far worse than the standard 10yo. Bah I'm out with Talisker from about 2009.

A good whisky in the style of Talisker, everything with him - and the density, and the relative complexity, and the depth of Coy-what is.

Strong and firm body.

Sea spray and iodine. It whips your face. An austere and mineral peat. Coarse salt. We are at the top of a cliff. Below, a black and stormy sea. The waves crash onto the breakers, the foam splashes. In the background, heather, a sprig of vanilla. Some spices. With the addition of water, it softens and balances. A hint of anise. In the mouth, it's a little alcoholic and metallic. The herbs rise, invade the mouth, then a good finish where pepper, iodized freshness, vanilla, parsley and a slight bitterness mingle. The perfect whisky for the dead of winter, when it's dark at 5:40 p.m. and sleet is cracking against the window outside. It's good, but how can I put it, I'm a little disappointed. It's missing a little something, character no doubt, and even a little flavor. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2020/06/talisker-57-north.html

How I like this whisky. It has everything: smoke, fruit and sweetness, a long, pleasantly warming finish that pleasantly touches the palate. The only drawback is the price, which is very high.
Saftkenner 87 16 mar 2021 6:15 pm
Fresh, elegant and powerful bottling. Hopefully Talisker can keep this quality for many years to come. The bottle can actually take it half full for a few years. It tends to make it even better. In my experience, this is also typical for Talikser that the bottlings only really crank up their taste and become round when you have emptied half the bottle and you were allowed to breathe properly.
Нос 86 Very pleasant, elegant and maritime-looking smoke. Vanilla, oak seasoning, salt, sea buckthorn, honey, orange, melon.
Вкус 88 Diluted to 50%. Powerful start. Pleasant sweet and sour notes alternate. Lemon balm, blood orange, honey, mint. Very refreshing mouthfeel.
Финиш 87 Medium-long finish. Orange, melon, vanilla and oak seasoning remain.
GlenSikkes 87 22 jun 2019 8:55 pm
Tasting Notes by producer; in brief… All of Talisker’s full-on vigour, with the promise of wisdom to come. In a sentence… A classic, intense Talisker that’s like looking out to sea with a storm brewing, and which becomes deeper and more approachable when water is added. Nose: Very clean and intense, with light smoke soon appearing. Creamy toffee, with pronounced fruit acidity. Hints of edible seaweed, heather blossom and a calming influence of vanilla that balances the crisp attack. Chalky and minty. In time, chocolate, then salt. The chocolate becomes slightly nuttier: like praline. Water tempers the attack and brings out a slightly oily note. Initially there's a firework/struck match edge, then more seaweed, as if you’re at the high water mark on a sandy beach. Sweet yet salty, with a savoury sharpness. Palate: Tart fruit, sweet to start, with smoke and tar abruptly exploding around the middle of the mouth. Sweet-centred, a little like liqueur chocolate, yet tempered by a savoury edge that stops things becoming too polite. Water deepens the effect and smoothes out the abrupt shift between sweet and smoke. Mouth filling, silky and complex. Finish Oily, tingling with the signature pepperiness. Smoother with water.

Alcohol is too present, unbalanced. There are many other high-end whiskys that do not catch as much, but this one is close to the fire. The flavors are obviously swept by this alcohol. Only pepper and smoke can be shown, but also too dominant (which is not surprising, to deal with this invasive alcohol). No subtlety, therefore. A bourrin whisky, which decapses. Clearly not a whisky to consider if you want to learn this drink (it would be disgusting). On the other hand, it should please those who like the most basic hardiness and the alcohol present.

Peatier than the 10yo OB in the glass next to it. More straightforward and youthful, but the sea salt and pepper that mark a Talisker are around. There is some oak of the plankish sort. I feel the nose loses some of its definition with water, but the palate and body come nicely together at one or two teaspoons. With water out comes some gunpowder as well. The taste is peaty and honeyed but slightly hollow. In the finish the youth shows again, as peat lingers and sinks into my tongue and gums, but otherwise there is very little action apart from slight oiliness and a faint taste of sand. Let me guess, this is 5,7 years old? Tasted next to OB 10yo (87pts) and 2003 Distillers Edition (85). A big up to whomever had the good idea to make a 3x20cl pack of these malts. I'm at a stage in this hobby where I no longer care to buy full bottles of most entry level OBs (there's only so much time for whisky, and so _much_ whisky around), so these little bottles are much appreciated as I can still keep tabs with what's going on at that price range without having to stock much more whisky than I can or want to drink. Hey Laphroaig, make a tri-pack of 10yo, QC and Cask Str.!

It's mainly sweet with a bit of fruit flavor, moderate peat, Talisker-like smokiness, and a lot of spice. A whisky that is too spicy and spicy to drink daily. However, on days when you crave something spicy, the combination of peat and spiciness can be a choice you won’t regret. However, it may be difficult to obtain bottles due to the issue of duty-free limited products and discontinuation, but search results show that there is quite a bit in stock.
Нос 87 There is some buzz. - As soon as you smell it, you can intuitively feel the smokiness of burning firewood, and the peat mixed with a certain amount of iodine and seaweed feels just right. - You can feel the citrus that stings your nose from the lemon peel, and underneath the citrus, there is a scent of unripe, sour apple mixed together. - You can feel the sweetness of honey mixed with the scent of bright flowers, the nutty taste of malt felt when grinding malt, and a little creaminess mixed in to give it a creme brûlée feel. - A scent that seems to be a mixture of the scent of herbs and the scent of grass felt after weeding grass in the summer. - The spice of cinnamon provides the right balance. : N Summary - There is a buzz, but it is not strong compared to the alcohol content, and it feels like the sweet, savory and stinging citrus are competing for territory.
Вкус 84 The spice is strong enough to make your entire mouth tingle as soon as it enters your mouth. - The smokiness of dying firewood is strongly felt, and the iodine, salty taste, and medicinal peat are felt quite strongly. - As mentioned above, the spice is very strong. The scent is close to cinnamon, but you can feel the cinnamon spice, the sharpness of pepper, and the spicy spice of pepper at the same time. - Vanilla comes up strongly, followed by the fruity scent of ripe apple and peach and the citrus of lemon peel. - The sweetness is strong, but the creaminess is strong, so the sweetness is strong, like a mixture of butter and sugar, like toffee. However, the spiciness is strong, giving it a unique soft yet spicy feel. - Although it was not included in the table, various nuances such as herbs, not-sweet melon, and funnel-type herbs were felt. : P Summary - The overall taste is well-balanced and easy to drink, but the spiciness is so strong that it is burdensome.
Финиш 84 The finish is medium to long. - The sweetness of honey is strong, mixed with the citrus of lemon peel. - It still has a strong spicy taste of cinnamon, pepper, and red pepper. - Oak scent with a raw oak feel and oak tannin that dries the tongue moderately - Iodine and salt-based peat feel appropriate. - There is a slight metallic feel of iron, but not enough to distract from the other flavors. : F Summary - Spicy and sweet. If the spiciness had been reduced just a little, I think it would have been a fairly well-balanced drink.

Talisker at basically cask strength (definition of cs prevents it from being called such), what could go wrong? And indeed this one is bold, powerful, and can be lots of fun, especially if you get a good batch. My first, when it was released in 2008 was flavor/quality-wise weaker than the 10 and the 57 N is def. a mix of younger juice. Too bad this is no 10 yo at 57.1% abv. which would be a real cracker and - if priced fairly - my new favorite standard for sure. All in all still a pretty impressive dram, but buy on sale in 1 liter bottle to get the most out of the deal and don't be dissappointed, if it does not quite reach the 10 yo benchmark @ cs.
George_Martin2 81 24 aug 2022 3:46 pm
It's a bit too harsh for me when starting and the burning bothered me a bit. I don't think it's bad and the bottle has been open since around 2012 (tasted in 2020), but I don't know how it may have changed since then. In any case, it's okay for me and takes away the "stress" when my bottles are open longer than the "recommended" times everywhere. He's not a repeat purchase candidate for me but it was nice to have tried him in the knowledge of the long opening.

It doesn't make you say young, but it definitely doesn't make you say old. Maybe I didn't fall in love with it because I'm not a fan of the sea character, but it's not "bad" either. It just feels like the whisky was given a little for the sake of the story (especially for a bottling that should be so special). Seaweed nuances like nori are enjoyable, and spicy notes like bread and mustard are a plus. Price performance: Medium Would I buy it again?: No.
Нос 87 Mossy fumed maritime peat. Light cork. Biscuit and crispiness in front. Iodine. Nice fruits like apples in the background. coal. toast. Green apple. A creamy side. Maybe a little leather towards the end. A cooked doughy side. With a little water, aromas like pretzel and mustard open up but the sea character comes back on top.
Вкус 85 On the palate, very burning and slightly sweet, at first light brioche, then the first sea, lots of seaweed, nori. Almost fishy and finally ash like cigarette smoke. Alcohol masks it a bit and is too burning. Unbalanced in that sense. On the palate, water creates a serious softening, making the whisky more drinkable and enjoyable. A little more fruity, slightly red apple and dried apricot notes open up. Sweetness opens up. Grilled fish.
Финиш 84 Medium-short length, ashy, smoky and maritime finish. Quite burning, bitterness remains at the back. Moss and very light spice. Black pepper and cinnamon. Well, this is not too complex.

Slightly young, but it has an enjoyable intensity. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner than the 10, but the form is as long as the 10. The stronger smoked meat taste compared to the 10 made this one an interesting take on the theme.

I needed something to warm up with him. The bottle has been open for many years. Now I really like it.
Нос 86 Oak wood - creamy, with green notes. Toffee. Grass. Salty sea breeze and very light peat. Malt sugar. Dark chocolate. After longer standing, prunes.
Вкус 86 First a sharp start. Caramel. Fishy-algae, mussels. Shoe polish and motor oil - but rather subtle. Then develops in the direction of ginger wort and allspice towards black pepper. Then peat again. From sip to sip it becomes more acidic (citrus), which fits well.
Финиш 85 Herb-peppery. Young wood, charcoal. High-proof bitter chocolate. Lemon juice (looks somewhat artificial). Sea spray.

This whisky focuses purely on enhancing the "Talisker essence." Compared to Talisker 10, the fruity notes are significantly reduced, intensifying its briny, seaweed, iodine, and saltiness, which can be as polarizing as the medicinal notes in Laphroaig. The subtle sweetness combining with spiciness on the palate, reminiscent of onion, is particularly intriguing. Additionally, the long, peaty finish is very satisfying.
Нос 85 Top notes: Briny seaweed, smoky (chimney soot), salted caramel Base notes: Iodine, pepper, limestone, orange zest Hints: Red apple, pineapple, milk
Вкус 85 Top notes: Briny seaweed, salted caramel, charred wood Base notes: Smoky (chimney soot), iodine, sweet onion, citrus Hints: Underripe apple, vanilla, wood glue
Финиш 87 Palette Top notes: Smoky (chimney), sea salt Base notes: Briny seaweed, brown sugar, charred wood Nose Top notes: Smoky (chimney soot), citrus (lemon, orange), pepper Base notes: Quince, caramel, iodine

Нос 88 Maritime peat, lots of vanilla, salted water, honey, lemon sour candy. There is a hint of tobacco and campfire smoke.
Вкус 86 Lots of caramel, salty peat, creamy dark chocolate, it is more bitter that I would prefer.
Финиш 85 Bitterness, black pepper, citrus, long lasting.

At the front I have to say that I always dilute every whisky to 48-49% first, smell it, taste it and then pure. Then I experiment with water, sometimes a drop here, sometimes 2 drops there. What I find great about Talisker is that the peppery hotness is always exactly the same. No matter whether with 48% or with 57%. This whisky is easy to drink in bottled starch.

Compared to the 10, much more closed and paler. The nose is musty, and there is also an unpleasant alcoholic biting in the mouth. With water it gets a little better and approaches 10, but adds an unpleasant bitterness. Length: 6/10 I'm not an advocate of the 10, but this one doesn't meet my taste at all. Grade: 3+

A good learning sample
Нос 86 Ocean, peat, citrus, white pepper, salty, with a hint of apple sweetness.
Вкус 87 Salty seawater, wood, ash, citrus, green apple (initially seawater and smoke, later I became familiar with lemon and green apple).
Финиш 87 Medium length, sweet, with a touch of wood, smoky, warm.

Nose and mouth are delicious. The 57% Vol. One does not notice, even without water to drink well.

Really good Talisker. Not overpowered by the casks. Raw but not too raw. Bbq bacon, pepper, some spices and sweetness. Really good.

I use the phrase "Talisker on steroids" and I'm not alone.  This is a right powerful malt, but not overly so... until the finish, which packs a wallop... at least for me. Quintessential Talisker pepper.  Smoke, shortbread, dark fruits, grapefruit, honey, cardboard (huh?), pine forest.   Lonnng finish, burns going down.  (I think this one is a little over my threshold because when I don't add water it gives me the bloody hiccups). Not the best Talisker, but not bad.  Quite a different experience than their usual range.  If you like Talisker this is a must-try.

Good ABV and Talisker. Good quality whisky but not outstanding.

Great whisky, despite 57% very drinkable without waterWater releases more nose, but accentuates the leathery finish.

Of the many Talisker expressions I have sampled, this is one of my favorites. Sea salt and brine. Musky. Tart, acidic, fruity. Slightly metallic. Big spice finish...for those searching for the signature Talisker chilli-catch of old, IMO, Tally 57 comes close.
