Less treacly than the standard range (15, 18, 21). More fresher fruitiness such as orange instead, but more creamy as well.
N: sweet, syrup, nuts, vegetable soup, dried fruits and some pepper T: citrus - lemon, grains, herbs, cola, dried fruits and rye F: grass, butter, floral and pepper tasted with Aby and JJ
This bottle I opened around a year ago and these were my tasting notes for the first few months of it’s custody: N: Leather, raisins, teak garden furniture, something smokey? T: A malty, estery and grassy sherry number moving fresher/grassier with aniseed>lemon grass. A few months down the road we’ve banana candy & banana liqueur alongside the bitter-sweet oak and CS spirit, both contributing equally to a big, focus-intense experience. F: Toffee, aniseed, Butterkist popcorn and more aniseed>fresh liquorice, finishing with a bitter-vanilla ice-cream. C: A modern NAS malt that really brings out the ‘old skool’, in a modern way – ‘Retronach’. It took a while to grow on me/open up but its no less that 88 points – same score as batch 3 WB. [Many moons later] Final reflection N: Even the dregs are powerful and resinous right till the last with dry oak tannins [from youthful casks] to the fore. It’s a sweet & nutty one and very bourbon-ey now – where’s the PX and oloroso gone? Then again, this was never simply a ‘sherry in your face’ job. Ten minutes later [it’s still opening up?!], I’m getting a little burnt tyre as it becomes much more oily with that teak garden furniture note coming back round – brought out with water. Only a little water opens the whole profile out actually [after a year], the leather, the raisins, the teak, the oily rubbery=fruity burnt=smoke [and tweed jackets], all back in the hood. It’s a fab combo. T: The palate is just fine neat or with water. It begins immediately with a waxy & malty, perfectly sweet chew,… much chew on malty & salty caramel.,,,,,,, simply delicious. The sweet oiliness really shines, never sugary, never too savoury. Fine form. F: Chocolate threatens but it’s all-caramel that comes through with perfectly sweet cinnamon All-sorts – thats a new combo! After that its time for more of those big dry cask tannins ‘a le nez’, yet the sweet oozing caramel hangs on too. Long, firm finish. C: Blind, I may have called this out as a Bruichladdich given it’s profile and ‘balls’. Despite leaving this bottle open at dangerously low levels for sometime, the spirit was robust enough to perform as well at the last as at first – in fact, it’s better. This is delicious stuff with blameless form and a bottle that demonstrates the importance of allowing a whisky to fully open up & out for best results. Once fully softened, it sung. Scores a B+. Blog

Well, for 65 EUR this GlenDronach Cask Strength is yours and that is a fair price.

A very good and balanced whisky, with an especially good nose. Glendronach certainly lives up to it's reputation of releasing consistently good sherried whiskies. There's a reason this brand is extremely popular, and their cask strength-series is a great of example of what that reason is.

A great piece! Just as good as Batch #1. I really like it! It's a shame that this level could not be maintained in the long term.
A classic GlenDronach exactly as we made it - cask strength, non chill filtered and at natural colour. The cask strength has been matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. The first batch comprises of some 12,000 bottles and is bottled at 54.8%. Batch 2 has been bottled at 55.2% and comprises of 16,500 bottles. Tasting Notes and Comments by GlenDronach

Was rounder and more elegant than Batch 3, especially in taste. Typical dronach flavors again

Malty and spicy aroma, heather honey, lime, mango, banana, dry hay and vanilla. Marzipan sweet taste, mint, pepper, malt, vanilla, anise, raspberries and almonds. Medium long, malty and fruity end.
Nose: Lovely sweet nose, a bit aggressive due to the alcohol, but behind that: Banana's, sweet raisins, chocolate, hint of smoked wood, oak, orange peel. I like it quite a bit. Taste: Alcohol burst, with that a lot of sherry, red fruit sirup, dark chocolate shows up with more water. Body: Full and powerful Finish: rather long, raw cacao, sherry, strawberry, cherry lollipop. Price: I bought this for 65 euro or so. Which I find very fair. Presentation: Classic, yet quite a bit of marketing blablabla on the label .

Information by The Glendronach Distillery : Batch 2 comprises 16,500 bottles (12,000 was for Batch 1).
just let it oxidize to get rid of the initial bitterness, after that, as good as the batch 6
Also a great job on this CS Glendronach. The pallet is telling you about it's age again (as #1) when you are accustomed to older CS versions. Nevertheless quite a good job. Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10 (2016)
Tasted in August 2013, I was not yet a follower of dry sherry, but according to my notebook, I did not like that one, but if it remains correct.

Sulphur notes on first opening. Raisins, sultanas and mixed nuts. Chocolate powder and a little cinnamon spice. With time it turns to Christmas cake, the sticky dried fruit, marzipan, sweet and yummy. |

Immediately hits with oak, it's on the darker side with caramel, burnt sugar and treacle. Some spice, black pepper tingling away followed up by oak and sulphur. |

Love it. A must buy whisky at a reasonable price. Buy it before it is sold out.
Vinous, sweet, leathery - a really great sherry malt!

It has been some time since I had a Glendronach in my glass, but this feels like coming home immediately.

Immediately outburst of the usual Glendronach flavors, which I like so much: dark chocolate, raisins, dark fruit and of course the sherry notes. |

Great warm and full bodied arrival. Incoming spices remain well balanced with the Dronach notes as described in the nose. |

Medium long to long finish. Dark chocolate, tobacco and wood in the finish. Slightly dry in the far end. |
Rich sherried nose, with raisins and Christmas cake to the fore, although other elements aren`t completely swamped, allowing honey and new leather notes to come through. The sherry profile continues strongly on the palate, with water releasing additional sweet fruits and a waxy element. Long, warming and sweet finish. A very well balanced malt, with great consistency from the nose right through to the finish. Not quite as impressive as the 15yo Revival from the standard range (perhaps a bit more "youthful" and lacking the incredible richness), but a lovely dram nevertheless.

Was the second Glendronach I opened ... A wonderful combination of Oloroso & PX ... ;-)
A very nice Glendronch, which unfortunately has nothing to do with the current bottlings of the "Cask Strength" series. Here you can taste the excellent casks, the deep character of the distillate, the complexity of the finish. 77 or even 44 points are simply out of the question.

Very good whisky. Nicely balanced, harmonious taste and aroma. Pleasantly sweet but at the same time sharp sharp sherry affair. * I compared directly with the Benriach CS batch 2, which is not so complex, it is more straightforward, sharper and woodier. Both have a nice dose of sweetness in the scent and finish, Benriach CS maybe more in the finish.
Certainly the nose is the best part, deserving well over 90. The rest is good, very good, but not flawless.
A magnificent whisky, even though it’s slightly different from what I’m used to in Glendronach. The added light feel, freshness of this dram is a very welcome change to what I know, adding even more appreciation to this distillery than I already had.

Great aroma, but not quite what it promises in the mouth. Unfortunately, it is too dry in the finish, since it is almost so dry dusty guy.
Aroma: Intense. Raisins, dried apricots, dried fruit compote, tropical fruits, light grassiness. Wild pear jam, monpacier, mints, tobacco motifs. Taste: Bright, sweet. Real dried fruit compote, tropical fruits, creaminess. Tea note, tobacco, apricot stone. Finish: Long lasting. Dried fruits, tobacco notes, milk chocolate, apricot pits. Conclusion: Calling this sample a sherry monster is probably impossible, but that does not mean that it is bad. Quite calm, comfortable and high quality sherry. ⚡87⚡

An oily and sherried dram. Had this in tandem with Batch 4 and found this must more well-balanced because the oak spice in this is not as overwhelming. Cooked fruits are certainly apparent on the palate. Not too sweet and not as sweet as the 21 Parliament. Finish is long with notes of dark chocolate
A very successfull sherried CS version of Glendronach. I just wish I bought another bottle...
