В аромате доминируют смородина и тёмные ягоды, ваниль, тесто для печенья и чизкейк, поверх которых ложится характерная нота табачных листьев, переходящая в орехи и нугу; спирт при крепости около 56,5% ощутим, но интегрирован, а раскрытие требует времени и терпения. Вкус мягкий и кремовый, очень сладкий и фруктовый на старте — ягодный джем, красная смородина, тропические фрукты, — с какао, шоколадом, орехами и всё той же табачной линией, дополненной пряностями (мускатный орех, корица); ближе к концу проступает лёгкая дубовая горчинка. Послевкусие долгое и сбалансированное: табак, лакрица, ваниль, тёмный шоколад и возвращающаяся ягодная сладость с деликатной вяжущей горчинкой. Хвалят за баланс сладкого, фруктового и горького, за удачное влияние винной бочки без её избыточного доминирования и за соотношение цены и качества. Критика мягкая и немногочисленная: часть отмечает прямолинейность и нехватку сложности, а также вылезающий к финишу дуб и вяжущую терпкость; вода делает напиток слаще и уравновешеннее, но приглушает табак. Опытные ревьюеры ставят сжатые оценки 86–88 без развёрнутых заметок, тогда как подробные восторженные описания идут от менее авторитетных авторов (вплоть до 90); при этом разброс оценок узкий (84–90), так что расхождение между группами минимально и общая согласованность высокая.

Нос 90 Currants, pastries with almond slivers, vanilla, dried tobacco leaves like those used for a hand-rolled cigar. The alcohol is present but not disturbing. The wood aromas also form a harmonious overall structure.
Вкус 91 Mashed currants explode in the mouth like a creamy fruit spread. The 56.5% vol. Are now showing their presence and pushing a wave of vanilla and tobacco flavors around.
Финиш 90 Long with liquorice root, liquorice, tobacco and vanilla.

A lot of young Blair Athols have been released lately, I tasted a couple of them and I have a bottle of this. I honestly like it and for a classic whiskybroker price it was well worth the buy.
Нос 88 The nose starts quite intense with cookie dough and cheesecake, this is immediately followed by other sweet notes like vanilla, and dark sugar. I also get tobacco, pepper and leather in the nose, which makes up for quite an interesting combination in the nose. The alcohol is present but well integrated.
Вкус 87 It clearly shows its power here. But all is well integrated and tasty. starts of with a lot of vanilla and again the afformentioned cookie dough, immediately followed by ripe tropical fruits, you can clearly feel the cask strength now as it starts burning a bit. Settles for chocolate cocoa and bananas and also a little leather and tobacco note.
Финиш 88 Very long and well balanced finish. As you would expect from the barrel combination but still very interesting. Starts with dark chocolate and cocoa notes, followed by ripe tropical fruits, cookie dough and vanilla. Afterwards you clearly get the oak influence even more with a slight bitterness that again goes in the tobacco and leather direction

The malt really needs patience. But then it knows how to please with a great tobacco and sweet nougat note on the nose. The taste is also fruity and still tobacco-oriented. Delicious. With water, the tobacco aromas decrease in both smell and taste, but it becomes sweeter and more balanced. All in all a very nice example of a successful red wine barrel matured malt.
Нос 87 The color of Blair Athol is, probably due to the red wine barrel, a beautiful gold with a slight red cast. Without water, the alcohol content of 56.6% is noticeable in the nose by a slight stinging. Otherwise, he is rather cautious at the beginning. You need a little patience for the flavors to develop. Then red and dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries appear. Tobacco leaves begin to caress the fruity berry notes. All of these flavors are carried by a nice caramel sweetness. With more time in the glass, the tobacco increases and is combined with nuts. The caramel turns into nougat.
Вкус 87 Soft and creamy mouthfeel. Very sweet, fruity start. The great tobacco notes are also immediately present. The alcohol is barely noticeable in the mouth, very well integrated. Along with the tobacco aromas, spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon come to the fore. Slightly tangy towards the finish - the oak could peek out a bit. The malt becomes significantly sweeter with water.
Финиш 86 Here you can still taste the tobacco leaves first. The oak only becomes noticeable towards the end with a pleasant bitter nuance. At the very end it becomes slightly astringent and the sweet fruitiness comes back through the berry taste.

The wine arena is rather subtle and hidden behind strong caramel. Very straight forward filling, without much complexity, but what is there is very tasty.

Beautiful red wine finish. Not too dominant cask notes, loads of fruits and a great consistency. Nice balance of fruity and bitter flavors.
Нос 88 Red fruits, intense and spices. Vanilla, cherry and cookie dough. Menthol, licorice and after some minutes a hint of tobacco is there, as well as almonds and some nutty flavors. Very interesting and quite complex!
Вкус 86 Very powerful and then wonderful sweet. It is like a berry jam and red currants. Then some cocoa, vanilla and walnuts or hazelnuts. Also there are some bitter notes and again a little tobacco.
Финиш 88 Warming and again the beautiful sweetness. Cocoa, cookie dough and some spices. At the end there are some bitter notes. Licorice and all in all the finish is a nice composition of sweet, fruity and bitter flavors.
