Старошкольный хересный молт с мощным дубом от 33 лет выдержки: ореховый шоколад, тёмные фрукты, пряности. Опытные хвалят баланс и интеграцию хереса, но расходятся — часть считает, что дуб и танины задавили тонкий фруктовый характер Гленлосси.

В аромате — ореховость, старый деревянный шкаф, табак, тёмные фрукты (апельсин, финики, инжир, изюм), карамель, мёд, молочный шоколад, воск и лёгкий ментол, с отчётливым хересным профилем, который заметно раскрывается от капли воды. Вкус маслянисто-восковой, наполняющий рот: мёд, коричневый сахар, тёмные фрукты, мокко, тёмный шоколад, мускатный орех, перец и «искрящаяся» пряность старых молтов; послевкусие среднее-длинное, тёплое, сухое, с дубовой пряностью, сушёными фруктами и кожей. Хвалят за сложность, старошкольную благородность и интеграцию хереса; критикуют за доминирующий дуб, сильные танины и горечь, которые перекрывают деликатный фруктовый дистиллят и порой рушат баланс.
Оценки согласованы плотно, большинство в диапазоне 88–92. Опытные ревьюеры дают в основном 88–91, но именно среди них слышны главные возражения: два поставили 84 и 87, прямо заявив, что избыток хереса и слишком долгая выдержка с мощными танинами убивают тонкую природу Гленлосси и что качество не оправдывает цену. Менее авторитетные оценки шире разбросаны — от 80 и 86 (тоже с претензией на переизбыток дуба и потерю баланса) до восторженных 93–99. Показательно наблюдение, что горькая дубовая нота почти исчезает после нескольких недель в открытой бутылке, превращая напиток в почти идеальный, — то есть часть критики относится к свежей бутылке, а не к самому молту.

[July, 2022] A quick review of a sample... ...which is not the trademark fruity Glenlossie profile and it slept several years too long in its wooden bed so the tannins are very powerful (and too dominant in my honest opinion). As a drinker I would not pay more than 80 Euro for a whisky bottle of such quality, not kidding folks.

Some water turns the nose punchier but sooths the bitter tannins a little. A bigger splash smooths both, I like this dram best at around 43% abv. |

nose: caramel, vanilla, woody with shavings, tannin, Hindu spices, fruit macerated on sweet pear, a little black grapes with the pulp, a little dry almond. mouth: spices, wood, wood powder, dust, varnish, wax then bitter almond, a little mold, moistened woody powder vegetal return, the bitterness returns stronger, tannin, rough sensation in the mouth and more caramelized wood. final: long, simple, but tenacious, the bitterness is transformed, helped by a spicy finish, wood, the barrel here dry, fruit cooked always on peach or plum, the almond shell becomes almost pleasant. the feel of an old woody and malty grain. A decidedly oaky bottling, in a good way. The rather fruity Glenlossie distillate has remained somewhat subdued, overshadowed by its 33 years of maturation. On the nose, water reveals some fruity and waxy notes, while the palate, with its strong oak spice, nuts, and dark chocolate, leaves less room for delicate aromas. The finish develops dried fruit and leather, which linger quite long and leave a distinctly old-school impression.

Surprisingly spirited after three decades in the cask, this Glenlossie was lively on the palate and subdued nose. The aroma of the nose closely matched the flavor profile; it was only a change in intensity as the palate was rich and oily with a bright intensity that lingered long into the finish. Occasionally the nutty elements on the palate dipped toward an umami-rancio.
mmh ... that starts nicely. A lot of dried fruits, sherry, moldy wine cellar, traces of marzipan. Sweet and spicey. On the palate the sherry fades away quite a bit too quickley. the oak is kicking in. some peppery notes, some sawdust as well. The finish is a bit too bitter for me. burnt spices, not yet bad but a bit less would have been better. That is some fine old and dignified malt. Not for every day and just a bit too much oak for me. Retasting May 19: after several weeks in the opened bottle the okay bitter note nearly vanished. which makes this dram just perfect! That is no dram for a quick sample.

Part of a signatory anniversary tasting lineup. My ranking for the lineup is: 1. Port Ellen 35 2. Cragganmore 33 2. Ben Nevis 27 4. Bunnahabhain 40 5. Mortlach 27 6. Glenlossie 33 Of course if you’re a drinker, you’re much better off to avoid paying double for packaging and buy a different release. These are for collectors. I see I’m going against the grain here, but I will double down and say that I can usually handle a lot of oak, but this is simply too much and puts the dram completely out of balance. Some very cool notes, but this is not about distillery character at all. The cask dominates. Edit: I just read a user said the oaky bitter note dissipates with some air time in the bottle. My sample was from a fresh bottle at a tasting, so take that for what it’s worth.

Honey, dark berries and „rote Grütze“ on the nose leading to a chocolaty, spicy, almost peppery taste and finish.

In the 33 years of maturation, this malt has loaded itself with a heavy load of oak, which has a dominant effect on the taste. While a multi-faceted play of aromas unfolds in the nose with downright elegant sherry notes, which is further unleashed by adding a little water, the oak influences with dark chocolate and mocha very quickly overlay the initial impressions of aromatic sweetness and dark fruits. The finish is quite long and dry with lots of oak spice.

Strong attack, chocolate-cocoa fruit, beautiful old school sherry, in a wonderful balance of sherry sweetness and dryness. Long finish on the tongue, the flavors remain without becoming oily.
