Бурбонная бочка, солодово-фруктовый профиль с восковой медовостью, лёгкими торфяными и ореховыми оттенками; хвалят богатый аромат и маслянистость, но упрекают в избытке дуба и перечно-пряной резкости, а вкус нередко уступает носу. Оценки плотно держатся около 87–89.

В аромате раскрывается спелая светлая фруктовость (яблоко, дыня, ананас), мёд, воск, ваниль и поджаренные ноты (тосты, попкорн, кокос), к которым у части образцов примешиваются землистость, лёгкий торф, минеральность и морская солёность; у выдержанных дольше проб проступает солёно-«грязноватый», ореховый и жирный характер — грецкий орех, макадамия, арахисовое масло, сыр камамбер. Вкус маслянистый и кремовый на старте, но быстро уходит в дубовую сухость, пряность и перечно-имбирную остроту, порой на грани избыточности; послевкусие среднее или длинное, с горчинкой, лакрицей, перцем и цитрусовыми, у некоторых — с дымно-карамельной сладостью. Несколько капель воды одни считают спасением (смягчает алкоголь, добавляет сладости), другие — порчей носа. Опытные ревьюеры оценивают виски сдержаннее и точнее фиксируют главный упрёк: превосходный, разнообразный нос оборачивается более простым, доминируемым перцем и дубом вкусом, отчего «отличный» образец становится лишь «хорошим»; отдельные строгие оценки (81) прямо указывают на переизбыток дуба. Менее опытные авторы чаще ставят 88–90 и восторгаются маслянистостью, балансом и медово-восковой полнотой. Разброс невелик — почти все оценки лежат в диапазоне 87–89, так что согласованность высокая, а расхождение сводится не к качеству, а к тому, насколько критично относиться к пряно-дубовому вкусу на фоне сильного аромата.

In the nose, a lot happens, very varied. Fruity at first, then a bit peaty, turning to more vegetal and ending up with sweetness. Unfortunately, the taste is not as varied and rich. Adding some drops of water makes things a little more friendly. Pleasant dram for sure, but after the great nose, the taste was a little disappointing, as in: I hoped for a great dram,it turned into 'just' a good one.

Нос	89	Fruity, ripe fruits, apples. Later on a little dirty, spicy touch arrives, pepper, earthy, a subtle slight peaty note. Quite some alcohol, although not punching or disturbing. Then some vegetal notes come in, pushing the peaty part aside. Again later on, sweetness arrives now, clear vanilla. Adding some drops of water, a combination of vanilla-sweetness and sweet smoky peaty notes is created. The alcohol is then hardly noticeable anymore.
Вкус	87	Very powerful initially, spicy, pepper. Quite dominating pepper, the ripe fruits are far in the back, no trace of (slight) peat anymore. Even after some time no particular other flavours come up. Some drops of water decreases the intensity, a bit more sweet notes come in.
Финиш	86	Less hefty now, more gentle. Now, this little ashy and peaty touch returns, still some spicy pepper. Medium long finish. After some drops of water, a little of smoky caramel-like sweetness is added, and it gets a bit more warming in the belly.

I haven't had a dram in a long time where the previous cask aging only contributes, but doesn't overpower the other flavors. And that's with an 18-year-old bourbon cask. 81-85 – Wow, really good one

Нос	83	Warm wood, dusty, vanilla crescent cookies, a wood-burning stove. Really a bourbon barrel? Could also be virgin.
Вкус	75	The alcohol is noticeable. Behind it, the notes from the nose reappear.
Финиш	85	Now it becomes fruitier. Some light fruits, combined with a touch of bitterness.

A pleasant, fresh, complex barrel-aged wine. Creamy on the nose, spicy, caramel, very, very nice.

A nutty and savory style of Laddie, which appears to have been aged for 19 years in stead of the stated 18 on the label... Not the most complex of early 2000's Laddies, but it's a nice addition to my bottle stash. Edit: the remainder of my sample bottle after 10 days of oxidation has the vanilla and sweet lemon notes with even a little appley honey much more up front. And apparently it has become a genuine 18 year old now... I like it even more, I'm cranking the score up a notch. 87 up to 88

Нос	88	Very much on the savoury and funky side of the spectrum with only hints of fruitiness. Lots of fatty nuttiness, like walnuts, macadamia and peanut oil, buttered toast with a slight note of French cheese (camembert). Some zesty lemony citrus and a whiff of vanilla are shining through in the background complemented by a touch of cumin and nutmeg.
Вкус	88	Quite an oily and buttery mouthfeel and more of a bitter citrus now. Still very much driven by the aforementioned nutty flavours. Some more vanilla with maybe even a sweet note of honey. The development is quite spicy with a drying oak wood bitterness, but it's not competely overpowering the rest of the palate as one might expect from an almost 59% abv dram.
Финиш	87	Long: bitter lemon, macadamia nuts and a hint of roasted meat, drying, mild liquorice with charred oak and black pepper.

Fabulously beautiful: Ah-Laddie-n's lamp oil! Scrape 90 points with a few drops of water.

Нос	88	Honey, mead, wax and lush, heavy mudflat aromas. Ripe, if not overripe, pineapple.
Вкус	90	Richly oily, with a note of leek cream soup and smoked cheese. Goes like Smede's cat: oak-accented and, despite a certain weight of the aromas, very smooth and balanced. As you chew, delicious hints of Tropifrutti are added, which rounds it off very well.
Финиш	89	Getting bitter, with pepper and licorice, with an extremely long and harmonious finish. At the very end, grapefruit and elderflower syrup - delicious!

This is a good whisky, no doubt about that. It's fruity, waxy and honeyed on the nose. In the mouth, this continues although a clear spicy edge comes into play, in such levels that it might be a bit too much if you are sensitive to this.

Нос	90	A superb, powerful but still refined nose, that makes me think of old whisky that was on the market for 15 years ago. Honey, wax, rich barley, toast, coconut, popcorn, melon and juicy, ripe pineapple. There is also some minerality, a hint of seaspray, and refreshing mint.
Вкус	87	A bit austere on oak and spice (ginger powder). With water it is better but still it makes me think of grape pip and aspirin. Next to that, there is enough melon, papaya, toast, toasted coconut, red apple and mint to be detected. Maybe a hint of wood and salt.
Финиш	87	Medium of length, with again plenty of space for ginger, chili pepper, grass, melon, barley, green apple and unripe pineapple.

A very delicate dram that requires you to sit down quietly. Wonderfully balanced and oily. I was pleasantly surprised at what a beautiful dram this was. If you can get your hands on a bottle, it is definitely recommended.

Нос	89	Candied orange peel and caramel, light popcorn note, velvety vanilla, some popcorn - the bourbon cask makes room, a little mineral
Вкус	88	Creamy and soft at the beginning, the alcohol follows and becomes slightly dry, lots of vanilla and oak spice
Финиш	89	Creamy again in the finish, warming for a long time, lots of oak spice and some chocolate, at the end it reminds of lights again

A pleasant dram with quite a powerful body. I found that giving it plenty of time and warmth helped to it open up; adding just a few drops of water did not help at all (spoiled the nose)
