Good complexity, balanced, not too sweet - very good! I expect the bottle to become better after opening as I tasted a sample from an open bottle first and then opened a new bottle. Btw I don't who selected the vegetative flavor icon but it is definitely not vegetative...

Mighty The Meadowside Blending Company releases their own ranges under the labels ‘The Maltman’ and ‘The Grainman’. This 32 year old Benrinnes was distilled in the year I came of age and was bottled last year at cask strength. The sherry butt still yielded 506 bottles. Boy, will you look at that color! It’s the one but oldest Benrinnes (in maturation years) that I have ever tried. Oh, oh, oh! What a delicious nose. Farmer’s butter, old leather, buttermilk, cherries, gooseberries, quince, walnuts and a jam of strawberries. Cloves and nutmeg. Woodsmoke. Very rich and round. Blind I would not have thought this so old, but who cares? This is very complex and I can easily entertain myself for fifteen minutes before taking a sip. Top. Softer than a baby’s backside, but at the same time nicely round and creamy. Now it does show its long maturation in the guise of molded wood, musty notes of butter and dark fruit. Walnuts reappear, joined by some hazelnuts. A stew of red fruit with some green garden herbs it seems. Boy, this is very good indeed. And a great finish to boot. The overripe, dark and candied fruit makes room for warm spices and a delicious, refined notes of toasted oak. Excellent. I’m flabbergasted. Thank for another mighty sample, Manny.

Simultaneously too thin (watery texture) and too flat (lack of aromas & flavors). I like Benrinnes, and this is certainly nice to drink, but still a disappointment if you factor in age and price.

Strange, very complex range of flavors, a lot (but very spicy) sherry at the start, then refill character, then almost a hint of Islay.

this one is a heavy wood driven malt. no sulphur and not as sour as many sherry whiskys that are bottled nowadays lacks fruityness and complexity imho. it could have more ABV, but does not need to. I am not sure if it would benefited the malt a lot it is fairly priced at around 225 € (release). you won't get much more for your money nowadays

EYE/NOSE Deep, dark amber, visually reminiscent of the great old sherry malts of yesteryear or of course a brandy. But that doesn't mean anything. An old oak barrel on the nose. Anyone who has converted a barrel into a bar barrel will recognize this scent immediately. Then crème caramel and nutmeg ginger syrup. Intensive! On the herbal side, cloves, marjoram and green pepper. There are also dried fruits, especially apricots and, in the background, a very light multi-fruit nectar. PALATE Soft, full-bodied, not thin or watery, rather creamy and warm. Convincing mouthfeel, simply pleasant texture. The taste keeps what the nose promised. Candied fruits, like papayas, apricots and oranges lead. In addition, prunes and dried physalis. It then becomes minty and tannic - an unexpected freshness meets slightly tart oak, red wine and finely spicy balsamic vinegar notes. Don't misrepresent yourself, please. Overall, the whisky remains wonderfully sweet, while the balsamic notes help the malt to develop a complex, balanced aroma portfolio. Refill-Oloroso would be my tip. Much better than the sherry notes, mostly driven by PX grapes, which are unfortunately almost ubiquitous today. FINISH/CONCLUSION The Benrinnes conveys a lot of depth. The long maturity has done the distillate more than just good. Fortunately, our test subject retained the freshness. Wax, dried orange pieces, tobacco leaves and Earl Gray tea follow. Very exciting. The spice now takes over the regiment of the dried fruits in the aftertaste. Finally, it slowly becomes minerally dry, just like a good red. I was afraid of oak bitterness judging by the nose, but none of that. A beautiful scent of almonds and apricots lingers in the empty Blender's glass. A very fine, elegant sherry malt with an alcohol strength that is simply fantastic for my palate. More notes and reviews on Facebook at: #Maltkanzlei

Kind of weak in the finish for 32 years of maturation, but it is delicious anyway. Price was initially around 230€ a bottle.
