Oh yeah, this one is fruity, orangy, mellow and smooth and punchy, fresh and thus belongs to the best of Glenrothes. Great stuff! I had the first edition (with wood frame) that includes the vintages 1967, 1972, 1977, 1979, 1980. Later editions (with hard box) include younger vintages that are not as good as the first edition.

This Glenrothes was distilled in different years. This first bottling is seclected from spirit that came off the stills in 1967, 1972, 1977, 1979, 1980 and has been matured for at least 30 years - some much longer.

Glenrothes "Oldest Reserve" is the flagship from the Reserve Series of the distillery. For his composition distillates of the vintages 1967, 1972, 1977, 1979 and 1980 are used, which enjoyed a maturing period of at least 30 years, some even significantly more.

It tastes old, fine, retro - it does not hide its age - the nose is exceedingly complex and everything that I wish for in my old age - on the palate he could well tolerate a few more percentages - but he does not disappoint here an elegant sniffing paint

(Blind tasting) I would guess a 20+ year old Highlander or Speysider with approx. 46 percent, and with careful sherry maturation (refill), I guess an older Balblair or similar. at ~ 24 years. In any case, I like it very much, the only thing that could be criticized for it would be that it is too pleasant and round - but I do not, but see the charm in this drop.
90 First of all great legs, and the nose also promises to be pretty: delicate but lusciously matured fruit aromas, sherry perfume meets spicy summer flower bouquet and honey. Delicious!
89 Oh la la, matured and round, with a great note of beeswax and the fragile but very flattering melange of fruit flavors.
88 There is no wood to be felt, the malt silky lines the mouth, a very harmonious affair.

Glenrothes Oldest Reserve 43%. Aroma is oaky and vanilla forward - nice, not tired at all (given the old casks involved) but not as sherry as I'd expected. Taste is multifaceted - spicy and oaky up front, vanilla, deep rich fruitcake and old saturated wood. Lovely complexity to it. Just very well put together. Beautiful biscuity old oak vibe. It's supremely well put together and tasty too 3.85/92

Nose: Initially a syrupy light caramel bomb. As it sits the sweetness fades and leaves ginger snaps, caramel, sweet floral notes (honeysuckle?), a note of citrus peel. Salty and meaty notes. Dark stewed fruits, raisins. Palate: Copper caramel, dry newspaper/cardboard, fragrant zest Finish: Old wood

I also got one of the first releases, so can only speak to this edition.... It's absolutely fabulous. I'm using it to show my dad how a touch of "decomposition" can be a really beautiful element of a whisky. So old and elegant... A touch stronger and it would have been out of this world!

The initial nose is already very revealing: candle wax, custard, crème brûlée, coffee beans, cocoa. It settles into a tiramisu-like character. A lovely note of Stork Riesen! Also, grape seed and jasmine tea. The taste is fantastic: smooth, creamy texture, pleasantly sweet. It lingers on the tongue, with lots of orange juice, expressive tiramisu, soft wood, a hint of pencil shavings, and coffee too. A pleasant, smooth finish: very multifaceted. A very good sipper. Excellent whisky! The nose is good, the taste is great, but it could still be even better. You wish it would never end. 89 points, more like 89.5.

Definitely worth the price, an excellent drop. Very complex and tasted exceptionally good!

Wow, I love it when a malt still has such a lively fruity taste after so many years. I would have expected more oak spice on the nose. A little more alcohol would have helped here. I think that even the 1.1% that Glenrothes vintages often have would have been beneficial. Still, a truly venerable old whisky that you'll enjoy lingering over. Well-deserved 90 points. (With a little more alcohol, probably +1)

Too bad, but also a maturation of 30 years has made nothing special from this drop. So far, I personally have not found a single good Glenrothes.
