В аромате преобладают херес, спелые фрукты и виноград, изюм, чернослив, апельсиновая цедра, яблочный пирог с корицей, ваниль, карамель и шоколадно-ореховые тона (фундук, пралине, крем-брюле); часть авторов ловит серные и слегка дымные оттенки, лёгкую травянистость и восковую фруктовость. Во вкусе — сладость, сливочная текстура, солод, сухофрукты, тоффи, молочный шоколад, дубовая пряность с корицей и имбирём; послевкусие короткое-среднее, сухое, дубово-ореховое, с горчинкой, мятой, сливой и гвоздикой. Хвалят прежде всего баланс, узнаваемый характер винокурни и достойную цену, называя это эталоном повседневного спейсайда для знакомства новичков с хересным стилем. Расхождения заметны: опытные ревьюеры чаще сдержанны, указывая на водянистое тело и нехватку крепости при 43%, сухую и горькую дубовость, местами пластиковые и минеральные тона, а также быстро выдыхающийся аромат и рядовое «на каждый день» качество; один прямо связывает это с падением уровня из-за бума спроса. Менее авторитетные авторы оценивают выше и восторженнее, отмечая мягкость, элегантный херес и кремовость. При этом разброс оценок узкий — в основном 82–89, — так что при разной риторике итоговое согласие о крепком середняке довольно высокое.

[March, 2021] After many very old, complex and (of course) excellent drams over the course of the last days I am in the mood for a rather simple and young drink tonight - so why not a standard 'farclas edition... ...and it was sub-standard quality spirit they filled into these casks 17 years ago, and in former times such casks would have been used for blending purposes only. But thanks (?!?) to the whisky boom almost all Glenfarclas casks are needed to feed the growing thirst of the growing single malt consumer base which results in - guess what: Lower quality releases, what else?
Нос 85 The colour is burnished and the nose offers an unspectacular but very okay-ish profile with sherry, malt and wood in balance. There are neither off-notes nor highlights to detect - this is the trademark nose of an every-day's dram (and exactly this is what the 17-years Glenfarclas aims for).
Вкус 84 The taste is about the same with average sherry and malt flavours in a bitter-drying wooden setting. This is not pleasing to my taste buds, but it is not really bad either. What else to say? Nothing.
Финиш 78 The dram arrives light on the palate with neither a significant warming nor coating effect, this is a weak mouthfeel to be honest. Accordingly, the finish is short as a lightning leaving just some bitter-drying impressions (plastics) which are quite annoying. Water is not needed, it just flattens everything.

I've been curious for a long time. Today he is tasting ... Do you feel the same? The rating depends heavily on the first impression. Smelling the first time just has to fit. This is followed either by further discovery or sober justification or cold rejection. Everything fits here. A very delicate, fruity scent, just as I like it. Nothing stands out, everything is round. I taste ripe grapes, sherry keg, a light hint of vanilla, but also a carnation, which usually bothers me a bit. Conclusion: the smells great and tastes good. A nice change ...

Lighter and more fruity than the 15 years old.
Нос 85 Sherry, gerbeaud, caramel and orange peel. Spicy oak and waxy fruits.
Вкус 85 Sweet and creamy. Fruits, malt and milk caramel. Oak, cinnamon and touch of ginger.

N- Apple tart dusted with cinnamon, homogeneous of mellow sherried matured dram. Aroma faded rather quick. Water drawn out earthy notes, a touch of incense barks and hints of soft peat. P- Dry and tannic mouthfeel with sour berries. Mellow with sufficient strength to please. Dried fruit notes at the back. Creamy texture if with splash of water. F- Medium at best, minty, plum and clove. Spicy. With water - smoky chocolate. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Amazingly mineral and dry. Lots of wood (rather harsh) that covers the sweetness of the Sherry.

glue, fruity, a bit like an Irish "pot still"! a little grass, a nice flowering side vanilla, nuts, we are on a sherry base with a little dust too fruit on a sweet stewed base with cooked oranges, a good length in the mouth, but it lacks a few degrees in my opinion anyway (watery sensation strong enough !!)

2013 bottling. Nose: quite some sulfur, a mild smoke, nutty, sweet sherry, raisins. Taste: a mouthfull of sherry sweetness, maltiness, dried fruits, aniseed and serundeng. A finish of medium length: honey and aniseed with some nice spicy wood notes.

Нос 85 Sweet floral perfume, cherry jelly, rose marmalade, rose flower, sweet red apples, rowan wrap, currant, wild strawberries, blueberry juice, baked plum cake, bun with jam, hard candy.
Вкус 86 Definitely a cake with baked fruit, plums, maybe apple pie, apple jam, apricot marmalade, oranges, raisins, hazelnuts in chocolate, carnel, fudge, toffee.
Финиш 85 Not too long, but very pleasant, again flowers, leaves of fruit trees/bushes, red basil, cardamom, red curry, smoked paprika.

Pretty thin, but without any false sound. Taste: Again thin, again perfume, less sweet, but fresh with wild honey, heather and native garden herbs. Butter, malt and almonds, which are getting saltier, but always bitter. Finish: Medium length - bitter and dry, licorice, roasted almonds, some wood and green notes of nutshells. Spicy with increasing oak - ultra-dry, dusty and cocoa-based. 83 points (nose: 85 / taste: 84 / finish: 80)

A verry well balanced speysider, vanilla and toffee with the typical sherry dried fruits. Some ideas of smoke and a very welcome part of wooden notes. With a very pleasant long and warming finish. If you try to explain Speyside Whiskys with typical sherry to a newcomer, you may open this bottle.

Blindtasting. I'm very surprised. I had actually typed Glenfarclas, the distillery DNA is unmistakable. But rather on a younger FC or a Limited Edition than on a representative of the often ridiculed Core Range.
Нос 88 Sparkling, a sweet and tart and slightly sour melange of orange zest, cinnamon, spicy honey, meadow herbs - but without any weight; the aromas are more "airy-casual", it reminds of Aperol Sprizz
Вкус 87 Cutting chilli-ginger sharpness on arrival, is immediately there, but also immediately gone and then wobbles in the background. Sweetened, soft red fruits, orange marmalade, oak spice, baked apple spices are the main focus. The texture is a bit too watery for me personally.
Финиш 87 Medium to long, dry, woody-nutty, mild espresso, fills the entire mouth-throat area, then briefly sweet (ripe blueberries) and dry again at the end.

with water: it doesn't need it at 43%, but we still try with a few drops, it actually becomes rounder and softer without losing its aroma, vanilla and butterscotch appear, now also apples and some tropical fruits on the nose Conclusion: no sherry bomb, there were mainly refill casks at work here, maybe even some 3rd fill and plain casks. A very round and smooth whisky that shows its Glenfarclas DNA very well. Unfortunately only 43%, which means there is a lack of strength and assertiveness

despite a 43% abv, this really impressed me. an old school, fruity and creamy malt accompanied by elegant sherry. it will be my new standard by which all glenfarclases shall be judged, it’s just good.

Нос 88 It starts with fruity notes like some sherry and raisins. Now the creamy and silky tones kick in. Lovely hazelnuts complements so well with notes of whipped cream and praline. Followed by some more sweet notes like vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch. At the end a little hint of oranges is to be found.
Вкус 90 Starting sweet with vanilla, toffees and butterscotch. A little raisin with some cinnamon. Yep, there is the silkiness again. Hazelnuts, pralime and whipped cream. Followed by milky chocolate. At the end some great notes of crème-brûlée and latte macchiato.
Финиш 89 Medium-long. Chocolatey notes keep lingering with cacao and cinnamon. Also some cream and hazelnuts.

the most recent batch to date (bottled June 2014) is less woody than the earlier batches, replaced by more sweetness and is overall a well rounded, rich dram with an excellent balance. For this expression, Glenfarclas uses 60% first fill and 40% refill sherry casks.

For me absolutely flawless, but - with all due respect - rather a bit boring. For me this is a drop suitable for beginners for once; for a very reasonable price you get solid quality.

Nicely done re-refill Sherry Glenfarclas with all the typical inhouse notes that come in almost perfect harmony. Lower ABV makes this an easy sipper, almost too easy. I prefer it over the 12y, 18y, 21y, and 25y versions I have tried. For under 80 Euros I would consider it to be an almost obligatory buy!
Нос 88 Liquid milk chocolate, gentle wood and spices, malt, honey, toffee, hint of dried fruits, touch of almonds/hazelnuts. Possibly a latte note. Yep, I am a fan!
Вкус 88 Matches the nose. Nothing sticks out. No off notes, such as Sulfur or overt bitterness. In only this would be bottled at 45%-46% ABV.
Финиш 87 Short to medium, very pleasant.
