Молодой Tomatin из бурбоновых бочек с трёхлетним дображиванием в бочке из-под хереса фино: сухой, пряный, с фруктами. Опытные ставят ровно 82–83, находя его недовыдержанным; отдельные любители хвалят как недооценённую летнюю питкость.

В аромате мягкая, менее навязчивая сторона, чем у собратьев из олоросо: сливочная карамель с маслом, ваниль, мёд, цитрусы, грецкий орех и характерная сухая нота хересной плёнки-флёр, а также лёгкая солёно-травяная свежесть — печёный картофель с морской солью и розмарином. Во вкусе больше жара и перечности, чем в аромате: зелёное яблоко, апельсиновая цедра, какао, имбирный пряник, дубовая пряность и покалывающая, почти игристая текстура; проступают ячмень и ореховость. Послевкусие средней длины, пряное, фруктово-дубовое, у части авторов — неожиданно и приторно сладкое, с сахаристой плёнкой на зубах. Хвалят удачную идею серии (одна партия, дистиллированная в один день, доведённая в четырёх разных хересных бочках) и приятную сухую питкость фино, за которой не чувствуется крепость. Критикуют недовыдержанность и молодость спирта: сухие бочки из-под бурбона, лёгкая капустно-серная нота, характерная для молодого Tomatin. Опытные ревьюеры единодушны и сдержанны — оценки плотно стоят на 82–83, признавая напиток грамотным, но не выдающимся. Более высокие баллы (84–86) дают остальные, оценивая его как недооценённый и лёгкий летний виски; общий разброс невелик, расхождение сводится к тому, считать ли молодость недостатком или достоинством лёгкости.

3 year fino finish is not too much, although the dryness, spices and fruits are well felt.
Нос 82 Sherry, vanilla, milk caramel, spicy oak, honey, citruses and walnut.
Вкус 83 Green apple, pepper, orange peel, cocoa, gingerbread and oak.
Финиш 83 Medium length, spicy, fruity, oaky.

Нос 84 More subtle and less obtrusive than its Oloroso-matured sibling, that's for sure. Softly yeasty / vegetal, faintly sweet and nicely salty / herbal, like oven-baked potatoes sprinkled with sea salt and garnished with rosemary twigs. Certainly still seems young, but the secondary maturation has left some interesting effects.
Вкус 82 More heat than on the nose, almost a bit peppery. There is a faint cabbage note I often find in young Tomatin – is that spirit sulphur? The salt and herbs from the nose pop up here again. Also pretty spicy, probably from the oak.
Финиш 79 Super sweet, almost saccharine, coating the teeth with a sugary film like a lemonade laden with high-fructose corn syrup. Still this slightly sulphuric vibe.

Definitely a competent and interesting dram. I assume it's matured on refill bourbon casks (quite tired ones)  for most of the time. The finish in Fino sherry cask provides the somewhat spicy character but still it feels a bit under matured. However, great idea from Tomatin with four different sherry finishes on a whisky that is matured the very same day. (Rating interval 81-84)

Imho an underrated whisky. On the nose it's fine, dry fino notes, green fruits, touch of honey. Very easy to drink, you can't feel the abv..dry notes, the fino finish is very nice, I can imagine that in a summer night you easily drink more than you should. Nice wood spices, some ginger, pepper and the typical fino notes. Very nice easy whisky.

The idea behind this series sounds pretty interesting: Take a batch of whisky distilled on the same day (January 15th 2002), mature it for nine years in ex-bourbon casks and then finish each quarter in a different type of first-fill sherry cask – Fino, Manzanilla, Oloroso and Pedro Ximinez – for another three years. It will be very interesting to find out how big, or small, each sherry type impacted the very same base whisky. http://dramlicious.com/tasty-tastings-episode-29/

Great journey, with a wonderful influence of a presumable fresh Fino-cask.
Нос 84 Thick, soft caramel with lots of butter and cream in the beginning. A delicate dry aroma of the typical fino-sherry-flor arrives, before wine notes appear, now with salted caramel.
Вкус 85 The barley and the oak are immediately present, with a kind of sparkling mouthfeel. It is soon replaced by a nutty, slightly floral flavour ( again the flor ) before a medium-sweet wine takes over.
Финиш 83 The journey ends with tingling oak and the medium-sweet wine (fotunately not sour!) The finish is not overwhelming but quite long.
