Lovely old ex-bourbon nose with yellow/green fruit (quince, Mirabelle, gooseberry, apricot), wine gums, soft varnish/glue notes and a dusty-dry aspect from the wood (straw, old books). The oak is palpable, but pretty fresh for almost 30 years, definitely not over the top. |

Fruity and bracing attack, with gooseberry in the lead, swiftly followed by some crisp oak that goes from softly peppery to elegantly roasted (espresso, dark chocolate) toward the death. Sour-fruity in the beginning, sweet and spicy in the end. Reveals more and more ripe and exotic fruit (mostly mango and peach) on the mid-palate the longer you chew it – certainly the highlight. Also a "heavy" and oily impression. Very good cask selection, with the wood complementing but never overshadowing the fruity weight of the distillate. |

Mildly astringent (the oak has its say now) with straw, quinine, lemon juice, corn syrup, tart herbs and forest honey. A faint meaty or umami note in the background (beef stock, bouillon). |
An almost perfect ex-bourbon barrel whisky.

An incredibly complex and multi-layered malt. Old, dignified and yet with an incredible start and volume. The interplay of the flavors is impressive, a great bottling. Thumbs up and deserved 91 points! 23/23/23/22 (91P)

This whisky needs time. I did not understand it as soon as I opened the bottle, but after standing for several months, it changed and opened. Fancy and addictive whisky

Beautiful copy of a long and dignified matured malice from the ex-Bourbon barrel. Versatile, never boring. An at least medium sip increases the pleasure in the mouth!
This is another great whisky with a very good EX-BC maturation. Very nice age and sufficiently complex to deal with it for longer. To enjoy very well without adding water.

At the beginning a nice dense honey sweetness with a lot of vanilla. Flowery and grassy after hay and summer meadow with a light mint freshness. In addition, fruity notes of green apple, light grapes, somewhat exotic notes of peach and mandarins. Everything followed by a not too intrusive nuttiness and a little marzipan. Everything is in harmony. Alcohol can only be felt briefly at the beginning, light touch of glue, then it evaporates and is noticeably well integrated. |

Soft and slightly oily on the palate, then directly fruity and sweet like apple and pear. Grassy hay notes come back and the sweetness is more likely to be assigned to the vanilla. The spiciness of the oak to the slight chilli spiciness is now clearer and sets a great contrast. |

Medium-length finish, with citrus notes and hay. A bit drier and slightly bitter towards nuts. |
The first whisky I;ve ever tried that my one and only tasting note is "dusty." Dust on the nose, dust on the palate. It's really nice, easy to drink, certainly not bad. But dusty.
This is really an "adventure painting". From the nose to the finish, a chameleon in terms of light fruit baking aroma-oak-spice-lemon. Adjusts the room temperature, the time in the glass, the oxygen ratios, etc. again and again. Also tolerates some water very well. "Distillery character"? Anyway, that's a "painting experience for yourself".

The very first impression was slightly grassy and very light fruity. And it stayed the same: The nose is slightly lemony-grassy, is always sweet and exotic-fruity in the glass. In fact, also reports a freshly opened (strawberry) jam jar, as I already had at Tomatin in 1988. Back flavors. Very creamy the whole, no heat far and wide despite cask strength. Apricot puff pastry. And even with further tastings, the smell was always multi-layered-dark fruit (overripe peach) with time. A very nice smell! The nose is wonderfully changeable. |

In the mouth of this Blair Athol comes very strong back aromas, apricot butter bag, the oak is now very nice present. The 54.1% report and show their strength. The beauty: The light fruit - apricot, a little peach, mango traces - is also present, the grassiness with soft haystack comes back. Another test also shows the double face of oak on the one hand and juicy peach with a little strawberry on the other hand. The appearance in the mouth becomes noticeably more fruity and peach-plattered on the second test. |

Ok, the finish is oak-determined and long - and again lemony-fresh. Also in the second test the finale is determined by oak, winery soil and herbs; the fruits now play the second violin. |
I can only agree with the existing reviews regarding the nose. The malt is multi-layered and complex in the nose. With every glass he seems to reveal something more. Fruity sweetness, wood, light bitterness, full ripeness. The 29 years have added something of everything. However, it breaks down for me on the palate and does not hold what he promises previously. Even the finish, although very long, can not offer the same complexity as the nose.

Aroma: open, immediately very pleasant woody tones mixed with malt, - varnished wood, thinner, old furniture, wood dust, grain, bran, vanilla, kvass from a barrel. Later, caramel, coffee with milk, blooming lilacs, sour green apple, creamy shades, toffee, boiled condensed milk, just super! Taste: soft, full-bodied, a lot of astringent wood, wood varnish, wax, spices, ginger speck, caramel, coffee and chocolate shades, dark crackers, butterscotch. Finish: medium long, spices ginger, unsweetened coffee with milk, wood, burnt caramel, wax, buttery. Rating: 92 Bottom line: wood-caramel and creamy sweet whisky, without a doubt the major league. A multifaceted aroma that constantly adds to the glass over time. The taste and finish are slightly more modest than the aroma, but also complex and consistent.
Everything is just right. Nose, taste, texture, finish. He has enough of everything and nothing too much. Age, wood, bitterness but also sweetness and fruit And even the price for almost 30 years unbeatable. (156 euros, end of 2018)
