В аромате — плотная тёмно-сладкая палитра активной хересной бочки: чернослив, изюм, финики, лесные и красные ягоды (ежевика, черника, вишня-кригель), тёмный шоколад и какао, кофе и эспрессо, пряности (мускатный орех, гвоздика, корица), а также кожа, табак, земляные и лесные оттенки с намёком на древесный дым. Вкус кремовый, почти сиропообразный, сладкий и пряный: кислая вишня, смородина, чёрные ягоды, черничный пирог, какао-масло, тёмный шоколад и жареный кофе, с добавлением воды раскрываются пряности. Послевкусие средней и большой длины, тёплое и пряное, с горчинкой дубовых танинов в конце.
Хвалят за насыщенность, плотность, сладость и удовольствие от питья, за чистое влияние живой хересной бочки. Главная критика и одновременно точка расхождения — экстремальное доминирование бочки, полностью маскирующее характер самого спирта: для одних это делает напиток скорее хересным ликёром, чем виски, а финальная дубовая горечь у части дегустаторов заметно суше и жёстче. Опытные ревьюеры сходятся на крепких 83–87, подчёркивая мощь, чернослив и красные фрукты; менее опытные оценивают чуть щедрее (вплоть до 89–90), делая упор на «старый херес», сладость и рождественский кекс. Оценки согласованны и кучно держатся в диапазоне 82–90, вкус нравится практически всем — спор идёт лишь о том, насколько уместно столь полное подавление дистиллята.

Nice fruity whisky, typical sherrycask notes, prunes, red fruits. Pretty powerful as well, very pleasant.

Krieks Whisky Import Nederland – WIN for short – was able to secure a sherry butt that was filled with the GlenAllachie spirit in 2018 and bottled at cask strength in 2020 in their First Cask series. What a lovely color. It must have been a very active sherry cask for there is not much left of the distillery character on the nose. That notwithstanding the nose is delicious. Dark and sweet on krieks, blackberries, rhubarb marmalade and plums. Origin chocolate and pecan nuts. Nutmeg, cloves and some furniture polish. Hint of red lace candy as well. Lovely! Creamy, almost syrupy on the palate. Honeysweet and very spicy with lots of green notes, if you know what I mean. All kinds of berries and again some krieks (not to be confused with cherries). Cough syrup, nuts, cocoa and cloves. Hint of freshly roasted coffee and chocolate. The very long, warm spicy finish suddenly turns very bitter from the oak, but that does not diminish the experience anymore. This was very enjoyable. Thanks for the sample, Manny!

How to rate this? I really like it, but it doesn't actually taste much like a whisky at all. Extreme cask influence almost totally masking the distillate. Edit: a second dram is less fruity and more on the spicy and herbal side.
| Нос | 86 | It's total cask domination here, but actually pleasant on the nose. It's all fruits and tartiness, not much leather or furniture polish and only subtle nuttiness. Thick fruit smells, fruitpreserve, jam, loads of sour cherries, dark forest fruits (blackberry, blueberry) and plum. Also dark (90% cocoa) chocolate and some subtle nuttiness at the back with pecan, hazelnuts, hints of nutmeg, clear clove and some juniper berry. |

Alcohol: 57.8% Aroma: Jelly, sherry infusion. Figs, dates, raisins, heavier wood, milk chocolate, cloves. (90b) Taste: Burnt wood, caramel, berry acidity, spicy aftertaste, spicy, until it tingles on the tongue. (88b) Points: 89/100 Summary: Excellent, dense and sweet whisky.

I'm not so quick to buy an IB glenallachie because the OBs are actually fantastic already. But this IB from WIN (Whisky Import Netherlands) is definitely worth it. It has been a very active sherry cask because the sherry dominates quite a bit
