Quite tasty, but pretty random. The whole thing with the old barrels from 1974 and 1993, well, okay.

Very varied whisky, all casks have their noticeable impact, making it a dram rich of aroma's and flavors. The Abv suits very well, full of character but not too heavy.

Overall, a nice bottling, but aromatically more superficial, somewhat paler and lighter than the two previous bottles.

In short, not a bad malt, but nothing truly earth-shattering. More expensive than last year, sold out faster than last year, and worse than last year. It's not as harmonious. But it could probably work better with a lot more air in the bottle. I still don't need it. More air in the sample didn't really change much either. I like it a bit better with water, especially on the finish.

DEANSTON CHRONICLES | EDITIONS 01 | 02 | 03 – Quick Take Deanston’s Chronicles Series enters round three in 2025. Like Editions 1 (Maltkanzlei Facebook Review #409) and 2 (Maltkanzlei Facebook Review #475), this release dives deep into the distillery’s DNA, three malts, spanning four decades, each telling a unique part of Deanston’s story. Once an almost forgotten distillery, silent through most of the ’80s, Deanston now seems more alive than ever. The exact cask ratios remain a mystery, but each Chronicles Edition is its own bold statement. And yeah, opinions on Edition 3 have been… mixed amongst Germany‘s Whiskytubers. Honestly? Forget the noise. Just taste the whisky, you gotta taste to know! Side-by-side tasting, same glasses, same temps. Here’s the breakdown: EDITION 01 (2021 | 46.3%) Casks: 1977 Refill Oak, 1994 Madeira, 2004 Amontillado, 2011 Bourbon Honeyed, herbal nose. Apple pancakes, apricot jam, light spice, soft smoke, and warm baked apple on the palate. Style: Balanced, layered, classic. Think Tomatin Decades I or Glenfarclas 175th. EDITION 02 (2024 | 52.5%) Casks: 1975 Oloroso, 1995 French Wine, 2006 Armagnac, 2012 Port Fruity, sweet, velvety. Red berries, chocolate, pralines. Style: Rich, dessert-friendly, elegant with depth. EDITION 03 (2025 | 52.8%) Casks: 1974 Canasta, 1993 Manzanilla, 2002 French PX, 2013 Rum Challenging and rather strong at first, leads with rum and a slightly balsamic edge but opens beautifully. Toffee, raisins, sea salt, green apple, walnuts, a touch of bitter dark chocolate, and exotic spice. Style: Mature, herbal, salty-sweet. Grown-up and complex. SUMMARY > Edition 01: Balanced & elegant – like a well-written melody > Edition 02: Deep & sweet – the perfect post-dinner pour > Edition 03: Bold & seasoned – not for beginners or the impatient, but absolutely worth the time. A beautiful whisky with great aromas; the cask combination was certainly promising. With time and patience, it will fulfill its expectations. Whether it's better or worse than its predecessors, I don't want to judge; it's definitely different and on par with its predecessors. - April 24, 2025

More detailed notes later... the whisky is simply so multifaceted, complex, and, above all, versatile. You can practically feel each cask gradually releasing its aromas. Definitely different from its predecessor, but just as brilliantly composed. Truly a whisky you can spend the whole evening enjoying.
