Visited Ardnamurchan in May, nice distillery. However this is a sample from karloff. I would say the best 'murchan I've tried so far.

20+ 21+ 20+ 21 83+ A young, but quite tasty drinking theme, although unexpectedly dry for me. Ok, really good batch and it's only 5 years old, keep it up!

Very red fruity nose, where the peaty touch is far behind. In taste, the spicy and peaty influences gets much more prominent. Very pleasant dram.

Dark amber color. Quite oily structure.

In general, I liked it. Smoked fruit, chocolate with berries, ash, burnt wood. Sweet-spicy, dry. The strength seems a little higher, maybe due to assertiveness and brutality. Rustic with a slight astringency aftertaste. 22-22-21-22

While it's already good and balances the sherry and peat relatively well, there's still a way up for Ardnamurchan, which makes me very excited for their future.

A nearly 5-year-old bottling with an extremely great price/performance ratio! No bitter notes, does not need water. Go for it!

I had no hesitation in buying this as it's one of my favourite new distilleries. They put out good whisky at a good price. This is no exception. If you like a good sherry bomb with smokey notes then I would recommend this and to drink it at cask strength.

Nice, uncomplicated sherry enjoyment whisky!

I like whisky that is delicate, sweet with a touch of fruit and subtle smoky notes. A great dessert whisky, perfect as a Daily Dram. And what's worth noting is that it's affordable.

I was very excited about this malt, as it received a lot of praise from my malthead circle. Unfortunately, I can't quite get on with this bottling. I have similar problems with the nose as with some of the younger Kilkerran 8 batches; I find this one lacking in balance and elegance. There is complexity, but in a way that I find inharmonious. On the palate, I like the slightly clearer smoke and the barrel influence with nuts, which carries over into the finish, which is rather mediocre for a peated whisky. Conclusion: I'm not a fan of "young smokers" per se, but even in this category I like an Ardbeg Uigeadail better.

One of the new distilleries that I have little experience with. But like many of these new distilleries, they are soon releasing amazingly clean and precise whiskys. I'm happy every time I try such malts (Smögen, Daftmill, Dornoch, Hollyrood, Nc'nean, Lagg). What will only emerge after 10 or 20 years of maturation... These distilleries have the opportunity to overtake many old distilleries if they continue to get the best out of less spectacular barrels - (and there are hardly any good barrels anymore) - because they do the rest of the work so cleanly and done with good craftsmanship. I think my colleague "glen efze" has already said everything about the flavors - at least I couldn't say it better and I fully agree with his great review.

If there is one whisky this summer 2023 that feels like every blogger has discussed and hyped, then it is probably this: The Sherry Cask Release from Ardnamurchan. 14,000 bottles were filled - but it feels like the whisky is sold out as soon as it appears in a shop. But Ardnamurchan is already a highly valued distillery that produces whiskys with high craftsmanship and was rightly voted best new distillery 2022 at the Online Scotch Whisky Awards. The barrels used for this bottling were filled in 2018. There were American Oak Oloroso Hogsheads and some Spanish Oak Oloroso Hogsheads, all filled with unpeated New Make. And they were Oloroso Butts made from Spanish oak that were filled with peated spirit. glen-efze.de

For a long time I avoided this hype bottling. I was too disappointed with so many other highly praised bottlings from other young distilleries. But now I had it in the glass. And I'm very happy about it! A really great whisky. What potential. Despite his young age, he has no hint of new make. The smoke and the sherry harmonize wonderfully. Without the sherry being too intense and covering something up. Of course there is some depth missing, which is not surprising considering the young age. But I would say you can't get a better whisky for this age. And that from a new, young distillery. Great!

This dram seems more than 5 years old. Not outstanding, but very decent. Good PLV.

S 6.5 This is heavy and intense. Although I do enjoy a lot of Ardnamuchan releases, this seems a bit too heavy for my palate. Perhaps it's the summer weather? I shall revisit this again in wintertime. 81-85 - Another dram welcomed

A very strong nose! 82 points.

There are now so many videos and reviews of this malt from Adelphi's young Ardnamurchan distillery, I'll make it short: Slightly alcoholic at the beginning • young and powerful without appearing metallic • no sulfur or other off notes • unexpectedly smoky taste • typical, modern notes of sherry • long aftertaste • fair PLV (~€63) • delicious How does one compare such a malt fairly? NAS? The maritime 3-year-old STAOISHA Vintage 2019 from The Cask Hound, with its freshness and the intense, strong smoky-fruity impressions, delivered significantly more for my taste and was priced at exactly €60, which, interestingly enough, was considered by many last year felt quite expensive for such a young age. Temporarily mutant!

The smokiest ardnamurchan so far for me. For a moment I even thought that there was no unpeated, but that turned out to be the case. Almost full 87 points but the aftertaste has just a little too much wood

Strong whisky with a subtle smoky note reminiscent of a campfire, alcohol is well integrated, sherry very subtle. Overall very balanced and harmonious - 13.07.2024

The aroma is mash-phenolic, yeast baked goods with berry jam, maybe a little minty citrus, a deeper spicy meat broth, salt and pepper. No miracle happened. Frankly young nose. The sherry influence is felt in a well-heated glass, but the meatiness also increases. The taste is unsweetened uzvar with chocolate sourness, smoked notes. The aftertaste is short, dried fruits, black pepper. Tasty, but very young whisky.

Salty-sourish, rather youthful nose. The taste is clearly more interesting and richer. Acceptable, drinkable degree. 21-22-21-21 It makes sense to try some more releases from the young distillery in order to have a more objective understanding of the style.

for me even more pleasant with drops of water than pure: I find more fruit, it also seems a bit sweeter, which suits me better. [86 - 82 = good whisky -> get (second) bottle? Perhaps...]

Haven't had a mediocre Ardnamurchan so far. Over the years my taste has slowly moved from sherry whiskys to bourbon cask matured whiskies. Ardnamurchan normally has a combination of the two and I prefer that over this sherry bomb. Such Ardnamurchan.

Autumn in a glass. Delicious.

The nose is super relaxed. Fruity and quite intense, with a hint of smoke. But also a slightly dirty note. The taste is also nicely ripe. The smoke is super relaxed and brings out the red fruit jam well. In the The finish is rather unspectacular, but not necessarily bad. A lovely smoky whisky that also impresses with lovely sweet and fruity notes. A great harmony between the individual notes makes the whisky super tasty.

Shit is delicious, tasty and interesting. A little bit like a snotty little brother of a Lagavulin Distillers Edition (which has dropped in quality and will also be available as a NAS in 2023), just not as smoky as the Lagavulin, but with the nice sherry smoke game. Of course he's young, of course there's still a lack of depth - but for the beginning of 60 euros in 2023? I had SIGNIFICANTLY weaker and at the same time more expensive in the glass in the last few years!

Well put-together modern sherry bottling from a praised up and comer. Can't find real fault but neither specific highlights so if you don't have such profile available or are a sucker for AD, go for it. Otherwise, like in my case, a sample will prob suffice. The price is fair and the abv. of 50% appreciated. For an upgrade of excitement AD has to offer you'd need to go for select single casks at a higher price tag however. But mind you, not ANY but the right one, so make sure wb ratings match your taste and/or try before you buy.

I was waiting for this a long time so I was very hyped when I was finally able to try it. It didn't disappoint me. N: Charred wood, cold campfire smoke, lots of charcoal and ash. Very heavy and complex nose. After some time the Ardnamurchan DNS shines through with lemon zest, mineral notes, saltiness and mint. The sherry influence is there too with prunes, figs, roasted peanuts, and dried herbs, alongside the beautiful gentle coastal touches that most AD bottles have. (93) P: Velvety mouthfeel. It’s the tar, dry smoke and charcoal that dominates. But there are notes of cigar boxes, cinnamon buns and darker fruits, lemon, salt and mint. Finally a touch of dark chocolate, as well as some licorice root. (92) F: Long, lots of roasted oak and ash with some salted peanuts and caramel. (88) Great dram get it guys. 93 / 92 / 88 = 91 pts / 100 :)

A great whisky for a hot summer evening. The nose is divine for its age. The taste is a significant failure, the finish is also a little unclear. Vegetation is strongly evident, and over time it becomes more and more noticeable. Very dry mouth. But in general, it is very pleasant to drink, despite all the shortcomings. I'll take a bottle on occasion

He cannot hide his young age on the nose. Delicate smoke, sherry and some acidity are clearly evident. In terms of taste, it impresses with a gentle start. After a short time, the mouth area is flooded with plenty of pepper. This is followed by light acidity, wood, berries and tobacco. The smoke remains gentle. With a little water the pepper becomes milder and green walnuts are added. Now it's dangerously drinkable.

A ‘modern’ sherry profile is what immediately hits on the nose, quite similar to many other sherried releases of late. But then….the spirit behind it emerges. You get the classic nutty, coastal notes I associate with Ardnamurchan, all sitting on a gentle, smoky base. This elevates it significantly and makes it a great pleasure to spend time with. The sherry is heavy, but doesn’t mask the underlying spirit. Great cask selection and blending imho. Nosed blind I would guess closer to 10-12 years old, and probably also nod towards Campbeltown. Even more peaty on the palate, but the fruity sherry balances it out beautifully. Slightly more youthful than the nose, but entirely to the dram’s benefit, bringing some lively chilli heat towards the finish. The finish is medium length, nutty and smoky, but with some dark fruits lingering in the background. The only problem is that it is way too easy to drink…the bottle is emptying way too quickly ;-)

The nose is really beautiful and actually quite mature for a 4/5 year old. The palate couldn't keep up IMO, the vegetal peat shines through too much for my palate. Decent whisky at the end of the day - I imagine the peated versions will progress beautifully over the next few years. But they will need that extra time to warrant higher scores.

Ardnamurchan Sherry Cask, 50%, SMSW. 30ml sample at home, Jan 2025, as part of a tasting set. I assume this sample is of the 2024 edition, but it's unstated. Dark mahogany brown. Extremely dark. Aroma has lots of very obvious PX wine and raisin. Much more recessive secondary notes of new leather and oak. Hints at menthol, violets and brown sauce in a more subtle and suggestive way. Body is lightly oily. Taste is huge on the sherry influence and also deeply oaky without being overly tannic. Could almost be a (very heavily fortified) port wine with the deep fruit character. Dark cherry and something like unsweetened blackberry concentrate. The spirit character is limited to a vague ethanol saltiness. There’s a subtle suggestion of peat lost in the sherry, bringing a rusty metallic note to the finish. The overall impression on the palate is that of a port (rather than a sherry - although it's the PX influence no doubt) that has had some very lightly peated ethanol added. Pleasant enough stuff to drink as a one-off sample. Very flavourful and sherry-dominant. 3.35/80

Nose: sweet, smoke, plum jam, spicy, salty, oak, slightly dirty •• Taste: sweet, smoke, pepper, salty, peanut, some spice •• Finish: medium to long, slightly sweet smoke and salt remain. •• Conclusion: not as fruity as you think. The smoke goes in the direction of burning wood and is almost above everything else. Interesting whisky considering its young age.

I am reading the reviews here and get really excited about how people enjoy the products Ardnamurchan brings out. I was looking forward to this sherry bottling, only in fear that it would become a fruity bomb. But at soon as you stick your nose in the glass you know, the fruit is mostly absent. I am more reminded of dark, damp earth under the soles of your boots when walking out in the field. The ruggedness of the Western Highlands is captured in a bottle here, and that is underlined even more when you take a sip. Strong, meaty, earthen flavours dominate the palate, infused with light coffee and dark chocolate notes. The finish is nice and warming, like a cigar smouldering towards it inevitable end. The most impressive aspect of this whisky is how it binds together in amazing balance. And it keeps developing in the glass, because after a while I pick up fudge notes as well. How very Scottish! Ardnamurchan is providing even more backbone to the style of the Western Highlands, to be found in Ben Nevis, Oban, Tobermory and more to the southern tip, Springbank. Almost every bottle is a homerun. Well done! With a few more quiet years extra maturation these are no-brainers 90 point whiskies.

5cl sample, tasted around AD/02.22. In comparison, reserved and very, very pleasant and round. I've come to the conclusion that I'm comparing apples to pears and this sherry cask bottling is in a league of its own. The distillery character is clearly preserved and fortunately not pasted over.

Well crafted distillate. Good intensity and structure for that young age with nice sweetness, subtle heather/honey aspects, decent smokiness and coastal influence in the background. Really good!

Glencairn

Young guns go for it. It’s amazing how many new distilleries there are these days. What’s even more amazing is how so many of them are managing to put out above average whisky at single digit age statements without the distillery evening breaking the double digits themselves. Obviously Dr. Swan has had a hand in helping many along this path with STR witchcraft, but there’s other distilleries that have paddles their awn canoes into uncharted waters and done things their own way. Ardnamurchan is one of those. From giving their bottles a naming convention that defies logic for the casual viewer to eschewing the STR path and making blending single malts from a combination of peated and unpeated stock, they feel like natural outsiders, doing things a little differently from the rest of an increasingly crowded field. I’ve held off trying any of their stuff but it’s now time to dip the toe in the water, now the sherry cask release has arrived. It looks like it was worth the wait. But let’s be honest, it’s young and no amount of nice colour can fake real flavour and depth. Let’s see… On the nose and I’m up to my ears in a dirty diesel engine bay. There dark figgy sherry and peaty ash, old tins of shoe polish and dirty old shoe polish rags, old stale baking spices, old Oxford marmalade, burnt Christmas cake and, tannic old oak, a slight sourness, cocoa, peat and treacle toffee. There’s no hiding the the youth but it’s very well managed. Imagine a youth wearing a well made suit of highland tweeds, they’re young but they are well turned out, they’ll grow into their clothes even if the don’t fit perfectly just yet. It’s a blooooody good effort. So, if the nose is well turned out for the age, what’s it to be in the mouth? We’ll see. Softer than expected, rounder too. Sweet cocoa, peat and diesel, cola cubes, rounded burnished wood and sherry and sprinkles of sea salt, I’m actually impressed. The peat is obvious but then behind it you get a real sense of whisky from ex bourbon barrels. A vanilla warm that spreads out nicely with very little youthful prickle. It’s far more harmonious that I was expecting. This young buck in their nearly fitting tweed suit doesn’t just look the part, it actually walks the walk and talks the talk. What a pleasant surprise, it’s hard to pick fault the be honest, maybe the flavour is not as full as you want but hey, it somewhere between 3-5 years old, you have to manage expectations, and that said, for they years it’s had to mature it’s done better than I would have expected. And not and STR in sight (as far as I’m aware) and all the better for it. Good medium and persistent finish, too. Lots of coffee, figs, coffee, peat and cocoa. Yumsk. Any good? Yes. Yes. Yes. Maybe a little too expensive at £65 a bottle but what’s cheap these days? Nothing. That’s what. Buy one of these and be happy.

Good balance, easy drinkable, peat is not dominant as well as alcohol. Sherry profile doesn't dominate the whisky character but is strong. Finish is short but its normal in young products. One of the best drams of this age.

Great Ardnamurchan, complex, with awesome Oloroso and Px

Much too young, it is thin and sharp... both on the nose and in the mouth. The alcohol is too hard, no time to mature

Would be a very crowd pleasing dram, sweet and sour with pleasant savouriness balancing it out. A tad simple and sharp but well crafted.

Impressive what an intense and amazingly complex whisky has been created here after 4-5 years. The very well chosen mix of sherry casks gives the Ardnamurchan an additional dimension compared to the (also really good) standard batches. For me, the profile has a slight bond with the Dark Side of Islay series from MoS and therefore meets my taste exactly.

A nice whisky that has a surprising amount to offer for its five years, but also cannot hide its youth. Smoke and sherry sweetness result in a somewhat brackish combination that is at the same time pleasant and without much depth. 84/100 or 5/10

I found this Ardnamurchan to be underwhelming. The wood quality seems subpar, and the design appears to have several limitations. One is left with a whisky that could be an authorised edition but fails to warrant the hype or excitement surrounding it. Average and forgettable.

Well made young whisky, good sherry casks doesn't overwhelm fruity spirit. It's not as smoky as Laphroaig PX, but the peat is there and it's pleasant. Somewhat medium to short aftertaste with wood, ash and raisins.

My favourite Ardnamurchan. Made me sit up and take notice. Always something special when a whisky makes you do that.

Let me put it this way: If you like modern distillery style and modern sherry style combined with a light, very mild peat note and increased drinking strength, you are in good hands here. A rather one-dimensional easy drinking dram

Compared to Ardnahoe tried on 20.12.24. Oily nose, lots of different notes. Actually a bit of vine tomato. Quite complex and well-rounded. Youth is clearly noticeable, still rather spirited. Something is missing in the finish. Not much smoke in the taste, short, nice smoky kick in the finish. Type of smoke: woody, cigar box,

It's a strangely light flavored, Ardnamurchan. It's shy on the nose, and the palate doesn't give much more. Nose - the nose is pretty shy, oak and cedar, maybe some red fruits, Palate - mouthfeel is creamy, there's a sweetness that hits, then it fades so that it ends up semi-seeet as the oak increases in presence, milk chocolate on the turn Finish - medium in length mild red fruits, vanilla, wet ash

Nose: The aroma greets with a wave of dried fruits and spices, and a deep inhale reveals a high alcohol content. Bright, moist dried fruits (raisins, prunes, dried apricots, dates), orange and apple confit, cinnamon, nutmeg, minerality, smoky nuances, and pleasant tannins. Palate: On the palate – dried fruits of all kinds, caramelized orange, a powerful wave of spice and pepper, sweet pastry, minerality and light phenolic (cooked), pleasant tannins. Finish: dried fruit sweetness, pepperiness, orange zest, sweet spices and herbs, damp wood. Balance: A pleasant, bright, open sherry whisky with an interesting smoky finish. The sherry is clearly present, but it doesn't dominate or overshadow everything. The whisky is very tasty, mature, and balanced. All these qualities are enhanced by the high strength of this release. N23, P22, F21, B22

Aroma: honeyedness, fruits (grapes, prunes, cherries), pear and candy, duchess, nutmeg, very light smokedness and slight minerality; Taste: pepperiness, strength is felt, noble wood, dense, with bitterness; Aftertaste: velvety, silky, chocolate; Balance: balanced, good, noble 23; 21.5; 22; 20.5

Price-quality is excellent! Tasty Sherry nose with some rum, raisins, herbs and lovely wet rotten wood. Clearly the strongest part of this whisky. The taste is strong and less deep. A bit too sharp. Then comes the aftertaste of excellent length, but it also lacks some depth and has something metallic about it. For the price I can't complain much about it, but I have had quite a few better ones, including from Adnamurchan. As a newcomer, I value this highly and expect a lot of great things from it!

Whisky of the year… Within a price range of £50-100, this has to be up there with the best of 2023. Ardnamurchan distillery is definitely getting a highly unique reputation with releases like this combined with some of the peated sherry single casks it is releasing. At 50%abv, the harshness of a cask strength is removed and the flavour profile of this Sherry cask release has every I personally look for; moderate peat and some sweetness from the sherry.

I divided the sample into two days. On the first day, somehow, everything was bad, the young age of the whisky made itself felt. It got better the next day. So I suspect there needs to be good aeration in the bottle for this malt to open properly. But still, I don't understand why there are only 5-year-old spirits here. After all, they have been distilling since 2014. Maybe they saved the barrels for future 10-15 year releases? Dry, vegetable and dried fruit nose. That is, there are scallions, prunes, some radishes, and celery root. There are also marine notes - shells, salty sea breeze, grilled lemon. Earthy and slightly smoky. Over time, something sweet appears, like maple syrup. The taste is sweet-sour, broken, young. The aftertaste is very cool smoke, with roasted nuts and acidity. The aftertaste itself is unfortunately rather short. It is better not to add water. In general, mixed feelings. Other ADs I tasted were much more confident.

The nose is very bright, berry-wine, although slightly alcoholic. Fruit marshmallow, berry lollipops, milk chocolate, caramel fudge. In general, the aroma is quite bright, opens up well and lasts over time, does not fall apart or disappear. The taste is quite soft, which is surprising considering the age and alcohol content. It's easy to drink. Berry jam, chocolate, roasted nuts, a little smoked meat. Overall I really liked the whisky, honest quality for a fair price.

I actually love the distillery. They reuse things, reciycle, green energy. Great for them. This new bottle design is great too. The whisky itself is absolutely stunning for a 5 year old. Can't wait for it to be 15-18. Cheers lads.

Very nice for a 5 yo whisky! Despite the young age, the taste made out of the sherry casks does not feel rushed or artificial, unlike many of the very deep-colored sherry finish product you may find in the market nowadays. It is not a sherry bomb nor dark sherry, but it is solid and well-integrated. With 50% adv, it adds the intensity to the body, making it beats many of the 10 or 12+ yo regular releases out there.

What a great value for your money whisky this is. Full of flavour in the nose and on the palate. These casks must have been fantastic, to not just impart a lot of fragrances, but also to filter out the heavier parts. I love this one.

The taste was a bit too bitter for me. I can’t give it more than 85.
