If you add water the nose is more restrained, but the palate becomes too thin, only a few drops of water are needed, taste wise noticeably sweeter. A solid malt in my book and tastes like an older Macallan but I find it a little boring and run of the mill to be honest. Still worth 85p

By Serge Macallan ‘Edition No.2’ (48.2%, OB, 2016): 87 Punkte
I think finally this is a non overpriced, non 40% ABV magnificent NAS from Macallan, which is not taken away by the sherry!

N- Initial wet box, follow by lifted sweet sherry, raisin and toffee with good doses of resinous oily texture to the nose. Mint, good strength with penetrating fresh citrus, may not be old but superbly well compose. P- Medium body. Treacle sourish sweet evolved to pickled ginger, vanilla and dried fruits, figs, as well oily orange peels. Quality chocolate, good strength and balance. F- Medium-long, smooth with American oak shines thru the palate. Plum, orange liqueurs and frizzy toffee. Smell, taste and ended deliciously. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

I like Macallan a lot, because it was one of my first whiskys (the 12 Sherry Oak), I like this one a lot, especially when I start, the last sip of my bottle is empty, too bad!
A sweet and intense Macallan that took me by surprise, but in a very good way.
interesting - stronger in the mouth than in the nose, long in the mouth it is more woody chocolate, because red fruit - delicious but priced at least 30% too high

A creative collaboration between Bob Dalgarno, our master whisky maker and the three Roca brothers, co-founders of El Cellar de Can Roca, twice named best restaurant in the world, Edition No.2 unites these four masters in one spirit. The distinctive and dynamic character of Edition No.2 has been shaped not only by the use of seven exceptional oak cask types from four different bodegas but by the creative spirit of each of the four collaborators; combining flavours to reflect each of their distinctive personalities in the resulting whisky.Drawn from European and American oak casks, this limited edition is a characterful single malt that showcases our extraordinary commitment to sourcing and selecting only the very best oak casks for The Macallan.Note by Macallan For the event Josep Roca commented;“The Macallan has personality and character in its whisky, but there is a nice balance. The different oaks and barrels can be spicy, fruity or floral with varying intensities but always balance – which made each dish open to possibility,”“Both worlds speak the same language. The main link comes from the aroma and flavors. Making whisky is an art itself; taste, smell, textures are all seen in The Macallan.”For the creation of this expression each contributor has handpicked a cask;*Joan Roca, head chef, picked 1st and 2nd fill Diego Martin casks for its rich green wood and toffee flavors.*Jordi Roca, pastry chef went with 1st and 2nd fill Vasyma American Oak casks to include light vanilla and citrus notes.*Joseph Roca, the sommelier, selected 1st fill Jose Miguel Martin casks with spicy ginger notes. *Bob Dalgarno picked 1st fill Tevasa cask, which conveys dried fruit and sherry notes. Master Distiller Bob Delgarno stated that;“The collaboration embodies the spirit of The Macallan. Edition No.2 reflects the personalities of the Roca brothers and me, represented by our personal cask selection.”The result was a unique master piece with warm and spicy, complex character. It is a whisky created by the uncompromising creative spirit of the four collaborators who came together to curate this special single malt.

The nose is quite complex and offers some good things. But there are also deductions. The palate, however, is really great. And the flavors stay in your mouth for a long time, which is great again. The total is 88 points. The palate alone passes the 90s hurdle pretty well.

A mouthwatering nose of delicious red fruits, oily, super fruity, mouth coating sherry that sticks to the script and does not disappoint.
Olorosso sherry is dominating, lots of big flavors and fruityness. Perfectly balanced between the nose and palate.

Nose: Sherried, glue, some hay, herb and spices like in curry. Hint of oak. It is not a bad nose, but you should expect better from Macallan. Taste: Sweet, toffee, bitter-oranges, caramel, some chalkyness. Then it get's a bit sweet and sour. Body: Medium. Finish: Medium length. Here comes more of the sherry notes. But also more and more hay and a bit of a farmy note too. It all finishes with some caramel ice cream in the background. Price: Don't know this was a given sample. the youth is evident on the taste and finish, beautiful nose. good whisky but not worth the price does not oxidize well, but if you get it right, you get a nice mouth coating oaky butterscotch
very good - with some of the classic Macallan profile
Liked it a lot more than the Edition No.1. Similar in style but with some added sweetness and balance.
When comparing Edition No. 1-3 directly, I choose this No.2 as my No.1. But I decided not to buy it, when it was at around 100 EUR, because for me the whisky itself was not worth that price. Well, I made the decision as a drinker and not as an investor or flipper.
Several years after opening the bottle, the whisky remains strong: a soft, enveloping aroma of sherry, marzipan, dried fruit, tannins and very light sulfur. Very tasty and tender, you want to come back to it again and again.

(90p) FINISH: Sweet exit, quite oily, rounded pepper, quite long (90p) OVERALL: A really well executed mix of ex-sherry casks. Total score 90 (89) points.

Good whisky. The best of th series.
Harmony of green grapes and nuts, moderate oak, complexity, overall good, but you should buy at least three years ago
Very good, unfortunately limited edition and the prize too will not enjoy
The worst thing about finding a whisky that you like that's limited is that the window to buy more than one bottle is small, so you have a terrible decision to make... Buy one or two bottles and move on and spend your pennies on other things without the pressure to buy or bite the bullet and pony up enough dough to stock the cupboard with as many bottles as the bank account allows. The problem I have with Macallan Edition No. 2. It's just one of those whiskies that clicked with my taste buds and made me want a few more bottles for the cupboard and then it gave me the fear of it running out so there I go, scampering around online shops to secure a few more bottles, just in case. The fear. There's no doubt that in the world of limited editions (what ever the product) there's a hard core group that go out and buy up all the stock they can to flip (sell at an inflated price in the second hand market) for a quick profit and Macallan is a brand that always appears on the flipper's list. It used to always be the 18 Sherry Oak, but now it seems it's been joined by the Edition range. And for good reason. (And these are the people you're up against when you want to secure those extra few bottle before they hit the secondhand market). For the money when it was released, the Macallan Edition No. 2 was EPIC! As a NAS there's always going to be the argument that you don't know what you're buying in terms of age, but as a drinker, not an investor, or a train spotter, the one guiding principle that makes me want to buy more than one bottle is 'Does it taste good?' The Macallan Edition No.2 does, and then some. Other reviews on here will tell you all you need to know about the nose, flavour and finish (all 3 are wonderful) but few will touch on the emotional tug that finding a great bottle has on the drinker. For the £75 on release or there abouts, Macallan made something rather special, a whisky that does all the usual things you want a great Macallan to do but at an affordable(ish) price. They get a lot of stick for releasing whisky that is priced over the odds but when they release something like this we can forgive them their sins. A truly beautiful whisky that gave me pleasure and fear in equal measure.
The Macallan Edition No.2 (48,2%, OB 2016) Nose: quite complex. It’s a drier, “forest-like” style of sherried whisky, mostly characterized by European oak. Crushed peppercorns, gingerbread and cinnamon. Then the typical baked apples, orange peel and berries. Golden syrup. Milk chocolate and a hint of coffee beans. Just a hint of green oak. A bit light and floral for Macallan, but nice. Mouth: raisins, cinnamon and coffee. A generous peppery warmth. Not the usual prunes and dates, but a vague chocolate sweetness and a hint of blackberries. Toast. Treacle. Liquorice, vanilla and sweet ginger. Some earthy and grassy notes as well. Finish: medium length, still on ginger and cinnamon, with a hint of lemon peel.Being spicy and earthy yet fairly light, this is slightly atypical for The Macallan (although they are betting on European oak a lot lately). But the result is really good and not overpriced, better value than most of their core range these days. https://www.whiskynotes.be/2017/macallan/macallan-edition-no-2/

Macallan Edition No 2 Tasting Notes Color: Dark Golden Nose: Fruit and Forest aromas. Sweetness of vanilla and toffee. Some spiciness in the form of ginger but not much. Macallan veterans will find the nosing different and light. Palate: The spices initially welcomes you thanks to the higher than usual ABV but it does not last that long. The sweet ginger and fruity flavors take over. Vanilla and earthy notes, oak and nuts delicately balances the sweetness. Finish: Medium to long finish. Silky smooth texture, leaving ginger and vanilla lingering in your mouth… Macallan Edition No 2 offers a different flavor profile and character than his older brother, Edition No 1. It is also a sweeter expression. It is a great product overall and I highly recommend it. Especially to whisky enthusiasts with a sweet tooth… https://maltymates.com/en/whiskyexpressions/macallan-edition-no-2-whisky-review/

Enjoyable bottle that’s I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of. Rich, complex nose. Lots of sherried, spicy goodness on the palette. Dark chocolate notes in the finish. Very creamy malt that makes for a lovely dessert.
Rich, complex, perfectly balanced.
Color: rich gold with a light reddish tint Nose: Juicy sweet tangerines and oranges mingle with sour cherry. A more bitter note of oak makes me think of toasted walnuts. After some time, some milk chocolate joins the roasted flavors, as well as a pleasant spice, which is reminiscent of Liebstöckl. The alcohol is something to remember in the nose, but not really uncomfortable. After a few minutes, the nut component and the toasted notes become even more apparent. Nevertheless, the sweetness always remains in the foreground. Although sweeter than ordinary OB Macallan, the typical Macallan character is still findable. The aroma is very pleasant and hits my nerve in any case. There is something of everything. Taste: Pleasantly peppery, sweetness in the form of beautiful juicy, sweet tangerines, raisins and a certain acid component always flash in the mouth. Nuts and milk chocolate and a wonderfully bittersweet note with a hint of vanilla ring the finish. Warming, he goes down the esophagus, but without going in a bitter direction. The finish is characterized by a light orange with some dark chocolate and nuts. However, the finish is not very long, rather medium long. Conclusion: It is relatively round and a strengths are clearly in the initial taste and in the first part of the departure. But the drop does not seem to be really old, because really "old" notes and more prominent oak tones are not to be found superficially in the finish. Still quite successful and a slightly different Macallan. A little more harsher oak flavors would have stood him well. I still like it pretty much. Especially when it should not be a total sherry bomb, a good choice. The price of 99 € is lifted, for the recently called 79 € but quite reasonable.

On the inhale, you can feel the sherry sweetness, lots of caramel, sulfur, dried fruits and milk chocolate. Then tangerines, caramelized apples, flower honey and dry wood appeared. The aroma is dense and persistent. The taste expresses tannins, nutty bitterness, dark chocolate, sour red berries. Next come notes of citrus, spicy spices and apples with cinnamon, which are carefully complemented by black pepper. The finish is quite long, with tones of dark chocolate with orange peel. The release is very well balanced, open, but at the same time rich and complex.

The disadvantage is that the wine body is not strong, the alcohol sense is generally controlled, and the bitterness is a bit too much.

Cocoa and spices. Boozy raisans tiramasu, roasted almonds slice. Mouth feel is great. Rolls around the tongue. More boozy dark fruits and orange rind. Good all round. Been breathing for quite a while now. Still strong powerful nose of ginger and spices. Orange truffles. Still very full and rich in the mouth
Sweet and intensely flavourful sherry dominated whisky. I much prefer this to the 12 year old sherry wood, which tastes slightly watery by comparison, or the Sienna (I haven’t tried an 18 year old sherry wood since I have a mortgage and other interests besides whisky). Buy it while you can.
Macallan Edition No.2 is all about balance and it’s pretty damn delicious at the same time. I’ve seen much written about the overbearing marketing around this bottling, and indeed the contradiction of shouting about age statements being important (with the release of Double Cask 12 year old) and then following it up with a fairly expensive bottling which doesn’t have one. However, put all that aside and just focus on the liquid itself and you’ll find this to be one of 2016’s best releases. Lovely stuff.
Not a terrible dram. Decent just hyper-inflated with way too many incredibly high scores from nervous collectors/flippers hoping the whisky/macallan bubble keeps expanding. Taste things yourself and decide, don't buy into marketing and hype. No way worth what it's currently going for.
