Very little barrel influence. A little too much bitterness and spiciness.
My notes from a blind tasting: No. 5 (88.5 points) Region: Campbeltown Distillery: Springbank (Clynelish, Glen Grant, HP, Bowmore) Alcohol: 45-48% Barrel Type: Bourbon Maturation (Sauterness) Age: 15-18 years Somewhat light fruity, floral, perfumey, probably not a single cask, but I'm not sure, but overall very nice. Very light on the palate, definitely a drinking strength batch, juicy, a bit too soapy for high points. A great distillate. 88 – 89 points.

If you're looking for the really hot shit, you'll probably find it at Thompson Bros. in Dornoch. They have a micro distillery there, a legendary whisky bar and are planning to build an official distillery. Above all, they are independent bottlers with the courage to try something extraordinary. This is a bottling from three 1st fill barrels from an undisclosed distillery, which we know is probably Balblair. And Balblair is not that far from Dornoch. The whisky has the classic color that it should have after 11 years of ex-bourbon maturation. On the back of the bottle there is a QR code that unfortunately does not open up more information about the whisky, but simply redirects to the Dornoch Castle Hotel. On the Thompson Bros. website you can find the whisky with the note Ross-shire, which would fit with Balblair, which is close to the border with Sutherland, where Dornoch is located. glen-efze.de
Very fine profile, with a. Compote of many fruits. Banana and melon are dominant for me, very creamy and mouth-filling. Probably Glenmorangie, the second option would of course be Balblair, the label speaks for it...

Really delicious. It's a lot of fun and fits perfectly into the summer. Can be sipped around the campfire or with afternoon tea in the garden. Lovely. Full review in a flight of highland drams: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2023/06/21/eine-hand-voll-highlands-teil-9/

It's a Balblair. He doesn't do anything more than what is expected of him, but he already does it very well. Excellent summer/daily dram with very good value for money.
Very sweet and delicious summer dram, recommended.

A really yummy yummy nose, on vanilla, cheesecake, Catalan cream, yellow fruits and fresh mint in the background. After the first sip, I get some orange cake. Quite expressive and the ABV is perfect for sure. |

Hard to expect more maybe, it's short, with white pepper and vanilla. In all case, a super nice quality/price malt for these crazy days. |
Floral, gently sweet, barley, fresh ginger and butter. Quite enjoyable and very drinkable. Great value!!

Tasted on Fri 25th Aug 2023 as part of an East Coast Whisky ‘Balblair 2’ 11-dram vertical (https://www.eastcoastwhisky.com). Colour: Pale gold.
Nose: Extremely fruity nose. Pear, some gooseberries, quince, some lychee, melon (honeydew melon), also some mango and passion fruit. Vanilla pulp, desiccated coconut. With hand warmth the nose opens even more, propolis and honey dragees, white chocolate. Red grape juice, juicy watermelon. Mouth: It's rather light on the tongue, but creamy. In the beginning ginger. Peach, vanilla pudding. Honeydew melon, a touch of passion fruit. A touch of roasted hazelnut. Apple and pear. Finish: The fruit subsides, ginger and a slight grape seed bitterness remains. 88/100 Conclusion: Wonderfully fruity nose to spend some time with. In the mouth it is light and creamy at the same time, combining fruit and sweetness. Only the finish is a bit weak compared to the mouth and nose. All in all, a great whisky.
Rounded and soft tropical fruits, good complexity with waxy, floral, citrus, nutty notes and delicate spice. Excellent summer whisky. Could be more powerful and expressive. Looking forward to try the 12 yo at 55.1%.

Full fruit bomb with lots of bright fruits. Nice fruity cinema on the nose and palate, which unfortunately cannot be sustained by the finish. Anyone looking for a light fruity whisky with a pleasant profile can confidently grab this.
The truly spectacular aroma suggested something quite different when tasted, which instead turns out to be banal and lacking in structure, flattening out into a few evocations that are not particularly (personally) pleasant. A real shame.

t's not exactly how you would typically describe an aroma, but it is rich and unctuous, somewhere between melted butter, cooked honey and motor oil, which is a bit like a MasterChef Golden Mystery box. A mix of sweetness and dirt that combines pastries (caramel, sweet liquorice, cinnamon, Alpenliebe) and hydrocarbons with a few metallic hints of worn copper coins. Accompanied by fruit (peach, mango, dried apricot, ripe mandarins) and hay. And it all works very well, creating an old-fashioned agricultural aura. |

The alcohol is more pungent than expected, with a push of black pepper, ginger and aniseed that is somewhat surprising given the aroma. The fruit comes to the fore, with lime and citrus leading the way, imbued with vegetal and metallic notes that veer towards the bitter, relegating the pastry to the background, reduced to hints of liquorice, marzipan and caramel. Notes of coffee and incense also appear, lingering on the finish. |

Quite long, dry and vegetal, with spicy notes, metallic notes, hints of fruit and incense. |
Purchased upon release directly from Dornoch. Creamy nose with white grapes, peach, bananas, some tequila notes upon opening but mellowed out by the dredges. Cinnamon sticks. On the palate it’s nectarines, mackintosh apples with more creamy, buttery notes. Medium-long spicy finish as the apples remain until the end. Fitting to enjoy this bottle in the Summer months and then finish the final dram as the temperatures and leaves fall. The autumnal finish to end the bottle truly marks the end of Summer. Great quality and value and everyday drinker.

Nose: The waxy and oily texture is very good, with some salty biscuits pressed at the bottom, and then a big cream cake, with some melon seeds sprinkled on the surface. Fresh mint leaves, yellow canned fruits, and the waxy texture is still very strong here. More floral notes appear at the end, such as frangipani and jasmine, and finally a few pieces of dried ginger. The overall rhythm is light and bright, easy to drink, and the expression and concentration are online. The waxy texture is worthy of praise. Drink: Medium body, more yellow fruits and vanilla cream cake explode in the mouth, followed by waxy texture and dry ginger. The expression and rhythm are well grasped, very delicious, and consistent with the content of the aroma, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Overall: Simple, easy to drink, delicious, relaxed, sweet, just like a pleasant summer drink. 88.5 point
Nose- waxy yellow apples, pears, pear skin, lemon, peach, vanilla, ginger, nice floral note, wee bouquet of wild flowers Palate- yellow apples, pineapple, lemon, wee peach, vanilla, ginger, wee oak & char, lemon pastry Finish- more oak, wee astringency, salt, lemon, ginger, Final lingering taste- lemon cream pastry
Fruity balblair - lovely on the nose with a decent palette. A steal at the price
