В аромате мёд, зелёные фрукты, сухое сено, цитрус, ваниль и лёгкие дымки; воск и слабая йодистая нота выдают винокурню, торф здесь сдержанный. Вкус наваристый, маслянистый, чуть сладкий, с лимонной коркой, грейпфрутом, персиком, абрикосовым компотом, крем-брюле и обилием пряностей — перец, имбирь, чили; тело плотное, жирное, прилипающее к языку. Послевкусие долгое, жгуче-пряное, с воском и ванилью. Хвалят многослойность, кондитерскую сладость и фактурность; критикуют избыточный жар, спиртуозность и в отдельных случаях разбалансированность, а также несоответствие цены содержимому.
Опытные ревьюеры держатся плотно в диапазоне 86–91 и сходятся: это лучший из поздних, менее торфяных выпусков, но в прямом сравнении с Бророй 1975 он уступает по сложности и балансу, будучи более ваниль-ориентированным. У остальных разброс шире (80–92): есть восторги о глубине и многомерности, но и резкая критика — слишком жгучий, неряшливый, переоценённый из-за имени. Общая согласованность высокая, среднее около 89, а расхождения касаются не качества, а того, оправдывает ли виски свою рыночную цену.

This is good stuff and certainly one of the better later, less peaty Brora.

[March, 2017] After the Russians (Krim), the English (Brexit), the Americans (Trump) now the Turks went crazy - only the Dutch stayed calm and I like the Dutch for that AND because they are great (quality) whisky drinkers. That is why I decided to call this a Brora day - I need something really, really good now. And I will do two head-to-heads: the 30-years old 5th vs. the 25-years old 7th release and the two 20-years old Rare Malts from 1975 and 1982 against each other. So the clear winner is the 1975 mainly for its bigger complexity (yes, peat induces a lot of additional flavours and aromas over such a long time) and punchy freshness. Nevertheless the 1982 is very nice too, but in a blind tasting you would not guess these two drams are from the same distillery and at the same age. Really interesting to see the difference peat makes...

But you smell it already unreduced and, of course very much better with some water added, this is peat vs. neat part two. The 75 offers a full load of peatiness while the 82 is rather gentle on that side. |

In contrast to this the 82 is more dominated by the vanilla aromas (and much lesser by the peat). Both are excellent swimmmer and improve significantly with some water added. |

Well, not the most outstanding release of Brora, but nevertheless it is she, with all her virtues - depth, multidimensionality, sophistication of composition and a diverse palette of derivatives, very good in development, simply blossoming with sweet confectionery shades, further expanding the range of taste sensations.
Very good, but nothing fantastic. Rather a clean Brora.
Excellent whisky! True, such a malt aroma can be purchased for 10% of the market price in simpler malts. But the taste is very interesting - complex and multifaceted. 21 23 22 22

I can’t imagine a scenario where someone would knowingly drop the money this bottle goes for and be pleased with the result. The price is for the name Brora and Rare Malts only, IMO. Nose is quite modern, but very hot, lactic and sour on varnish, grapefruit. Only some wax. Very big. Out of balance I would say. Not a strong Brora, or even Clynelish for that matter. Palate is quite hot and modern. Cayenne, mikes honey hot, a little melon and subtle wax. A lot of heat though. Finish is white pepper, ginger, powerful spirit dominate, but a little wax, vanilla, melon poke though. Varnish still a little lactic. Certainly not bad but if you shell out current prices, you’re bound to be disappointed.

The wax may betray the Brora, but it seems that the overall profile tested here is not totally characteristic of the distillery. (very good anyway)
scbp-5162, the level of distillation characteristics can surpass many contemporaries, but unfortunately it is too sloppy. Regardless of the evolution of the big cat, as far as the rms series is concerned, the older the year, the worse it will be.

Sniff: In style, we go back to where we started this session, the 1975 Glen Garioch by Moon Import. It's very old fashioned and complex, without any specific scent being most prominent. There's some corky apple and pear, a whiff of peat and soil and moss. Curry leaf, and other spices that would not be misplaced in Indian food. Sip: Dry and with a complete lack of sweetness. Very intense with curry spices, white pepper, black pepper, chillies. There's some dry soil and peat (but not necessarily smoke). Sawdust, raw oak planks, red bricks. It's really sharp for the age, and even the ABV. Swallow: The finish mellows a little bit but doesn't complete get rid of the burn from the palate. There's still quite a lot of pepper. Still hot and dry, with sawdust and grist. Lots of dry, powdered spices. Very long indeed.
Rich but not flaky beeswax, honey, yellow fruits, soft and round body, various herbs, slight chinese medicine nuance, fatty feeling that lingers in the mouth for a long time
A Brora drier than the 30yo 2005. We cut in the fat here and it is whisky sharpened like a blade that you find in your glass, before the air does not foam it a little, but a pleasant way. Not at the 30yo level in my opinion, but a big whisky all the same.

Blind tasting Honey, green grass and citrus. Just a light smokiness to the nose. Turkish delight and salty smoke...fantastic! Long and sweet smokey finish.
Color: Gold Nose : Very maritime, first a slight peat and iodine. Then notes of yellow fruits and honey. At the 2nd nose we are more about wax and lemon zest. The addition of water accentuates the waxy and tart notes. Mouth : The alcohol is well controlled. The attack is mineral, on iodine and honey. The mouth evolves on floral and sweet notes, very ripe fruit almost blues. The addition of water attenuates the minerality to give way to yellow fruits, mirabelle plum. The finish is average with nice hints of honey. A good whisky but lacking complexity. A profile more Clynelish that Brora, peat is present only discreetly at nose.

Clynelish but with claws. Twice condensed clynelish with peat smoke balances all the way. Honey, floral, cereal, and dust, but surpriseingly, little beewax. Was quite citric. A very little bit of sulphur.
Nose: The fishy smell of the sea breeze brings a little smokiness, and then goes into citrus, vanilla cream, dried ginger, old wood skewers, dried mango, dried pineapple. After waiting for 15 minutes, the floral scented body wash and the oily feeling of snowflake beef appeared. The surprise is at the bottom of the cup, it's Brora. Drink: The wine body gets seven points, which is sweet and oily. The aroma is mainly represented by tropical fruits, coconut milk, milk chocolate, minerals, and the length of the tail is very good. Overall: From my point of view, I thought it was completely overoak, and I can't say that there is no content about Brora, only a little bit left.
So unlike the 70s broras and reminiscent of some highland malts that closed in the mid 80s, Where early 80s Glenesk and mid 70s Glenugie spring to mind. Asture. Slightly coastal, heathery, boot polish, hay, dusty malt, restrained white and green fruits. 88pts
