В аромате — минеральная, слегка «грязная» солёно-морская основа с портовым духом, машинным маслом и дизельным «фанком», поверх которой ложатся копчёная клубника, ананас, грейпфрут, красные ягоды, вишня, табак, инжир, чернослив и цитрусовая цедра; многие подчёркивают лёгкий торфяной дымок и свежее дерево. Вкус маслянистый и плотный, для 54,7% довольно прямой и поначалу резковатый, с солёно-меловыми морскими нотами, вишнёвым и красносмородиновым вареньем, кокосовой ирисой, миндалём, табаком, кожей и шоколадом; послевкусие долгое, сухое, минеральное, с красными ягодами, пеплом и остаточным дымом, у некоторых с горчинкой розового грейпфрута. Оценки согласованны и высоки: опытные ревьюеры держатся в диапазоне 85–89, отмечая нетипично выраженный для Springbank торф и удачное сочетание мадеры с дистиллятом, и почти все сходятся, что это яркий, узнаваемый Springbank. Основное расхождение исходит от менее авторитетных авторов: часть ставит 90–91, называя розлив практически безупречным, тогда как критики упрекают его в избыточной, порой конфетной или винной сладости и в том, что экзотическая бочка маскирует душу вискокурни; крайний скептик с оценкой 79 обвиняет высокие баллы в поклонении бренду, ощущая кислый йогурт и химический клубничный коктейль.

The refill factor is incredibly high here; you really have to be careful not to empty the bottle too quickly, even though you know better. I still can't quite get over the fact that this particular bottling, matured in Madeira casks, strikes me as so Springbank-esque.
Нос 89 This is interesting: although Madeira isn't exactly a standard cask used by Springbank, and these are fresh Madeira casks and even fully matured, I immediately get that typical mineral, aged impression on the nose that's so characteristic of 'classic' Springbank. Alongside that are notes of smoked strawberries, pineapple, grapefruit, a hint of peat smoke, warm chain grease, and a harbor aroma. Yum, yum.
Вкус 88 I've experienced 54.7% ABV whiskies with smoother results elsewhere; this one is quite direct. While this is initially a bit disconcerting, it quickly makes sense as the initially strong character subsides. Smoked strawberries, cherry jam, candied red currants, salty maritime notes, fresh wood – a fantastic blend that quickly makes you forget its initial robustness. On the palate, it delivers the full Springbank experience – simply wonderful.
Финиш 88 As a junior, he lingers relatively long; young people these days rarely have such patience. Dry wood, salt, red berry compote, still mineral, slightly smoky.

N: With an immediate ‘in your face’ salty funk, Springbank after Brora [WLP] is another inspired move. Served alongside a Barstardo madeira [see below] – a lovely touch – helpful for joining the dots; though there’s no knowing what madeira type, grape, style, or winery SB used [exclusively?] for maturing this fresh vintage. T: An all-encompassing, permeating farmy funk with a broad oozing vibrancy, one that is impossible not to sit up and take notice F: Devilishly peated, more than usual SBs, and perhaps it’s the madeira that helps promote extra fruitiness in this case. C: Like Brora, nothing comes close to SB. An arresting example.

Нос 87 It definitely needs a little air and patience to lose its cask-driven character. Then you're rewarded with more of the spirit character we want when it says Springbank. Behind the sweet fruits – pure fruit salad, figs, gummy bears – the typical very light but specific smoke, minerality, and more zesty lemon emerge. With a little water, berries also appear.
Вкус 86 Now we're talking. A decidedly strong start; the typical citrusy and slightly dirty smoke comes through much more strongly than on the nose. Salty, chalky, sea breeze, woody, less barrel-driven than the nose, but increasing again from the second sip. Over time, it develops a gummy bear-like quality. Increasingly sweet, which I don't particularly like.
Финиш 87 Fruit notes flare up again strongly, almost reminiscent of a sweet white wine. The smoke remains present, but in the background, and lingers surprisingly long. With time and increasing volume, some bitter notes (pink grapefruit) also emerge.

The absurdly high scores are purely because the word 'springbank' is on it. Because this thing stinks… badly! Sour yogurt and chemical strawberry milkshake. The palette has something of a springboard character, but it doesn't make you happy. Not worth a full review.

with hand warming, more fruit come out, Initial quite subtle, needs time to open up. First impressionin the mouth is nice, easy drinking, not overpowering.

It has the characteristic flavors of Springbank: fermented malt, tofu, and rich red fruit, but it can be too rough on the palate.

Blog coming on www.longpouramour.com on 3 December 2025. My conclusion: "A variation nobody asked for but we still got. I am sure this will have a lot of fans, but it is not for me, because it does the unforgivable thing of cloaking too much of the soul of Springbank. A good product, but again, you need to be into these exotic casks."

Nothing more to expect from an 8yo Whisky. Fruity, oily, spicy, little bit dirty, decent maritime influence. Really balanced an quaffable!

Incredibly beautiful Springbank, this one exceeds my expectations and shows once again why Springbank is so popular. Broad, typical Springbank nose, very balanced, with pure and sweet notes. Oily, balanced palate, noticeably older than its 8 years. A very successful bottling!

Ah the magic of Springbank. I'm not a fan of Madeira aged whiskies, but this one works! On the nose it's funky, sweet, sugar powder and the smell of fresh baked pastry. The taste is lovely. A bit thick, oily and sweet (candy). Gets a bit dry and subtle peat. Well executed! The finish is balanced and long. Peaty and coastal

Another incredible offering from the Springbank society. Been a long time since I've had a Madeira springer. Practically perfect. Hard to find any flaw. Hardcore traditional Springbank fans will love this!
Нос 90 The unmistakable Springbank funky/diesel fumes nose is clear! Tobacco, dates, prunes. Fantastic!

Sampled twice across 2 different visits to Campeltoun Loch in Tokyo. I thoroughly enjoyed this whisky - sheer bliss.
Нос 89 Beautiful funk off the bat. Sweet, like shaved coconut candy. Not too unlike the filling of a bounty candy bar. Honey, red fruit, and more of the funky goodness. Bright hay and light engine oil.
Вкус 92 Coconut toffee and engine oil. toffee and funk. it’s incredible i could go with all the fancy notes but it’s toffee and funk just delicious caramel, coconut toffee. Shaved marzipan. Almond. Thick, luscious engine oil. downright delicious… this is INCREDIBLE not as refined as an older springbank but the madeira influence meshes so well with the distillate. I was a little apprehensive at first because I read some mediocre reviews about another Springbank madeira bottling (think the dark blue OB labels), and was worried i would be let down. But i’m glad my fears were unfounded. In fact i came back 2-3 days later and ordered another pour of this again.
