В аромате плотный, маслянистый и зрелый спирт с ванилью, мёдом, цитрусом и дыней, яблоком, жёлтой сливой и абрикосом, поверх солодовой основы из хлопьев, каши и рисового пудинга с корицей; заметен перец и имбирь при первом контакте. Во вкусе много сладости, ваниль, мёд, шоколад, фруктовые слои яблока, ананаса и нектарина, но многие отмечают доминирующий спиртовой удар, дубовую горечь и избыточную винную кислотность, смягчаемые водой. Послевкусие короткое или средней длины с ванилью, менту, лёгкой горчинкой косточки и какао. Оценки согласованны и держатся в узком коридоре 84–89, спирт добавляет разброс в оценке баланса. Опытные ревьюеры настроены сдержаннее: отделка в кальвадосе почти не считывается вслепую, а один прямо считает, что бочка из-под кальвадоса не улучшает исходный дистиллят и стирает узнаваемый характер, оставляя мутноватую, спаянную структуру. Менее опытные охотнее хвалят распивочность, яркость и маслянистое тело, вплоть до восторга от солодовой сладости и зерново-десертного вкуса; критика у них мягче и сводится к чрезмерной спиртуозности без воды.

Interesting whisky, blindly the calvadose influence was not noticeable to me, but some flavors in very unfamiliar areas. Exciting.

It's a decent whisky, but as we all know, you can't improve the original with a Calvados barrel. If the whisky was of poor quality, a Calvados barrel won't save it. Not a very good idea, in my opinion. 19 20 21 19

A blind sample from my secret gift from the Fassstark forum. I would not have thought of an Irish here because of the thick distillate. It also looks older than 9 years and I like it best on the palate and also with water. You can already tell from the nose that there was a "special" barrel or finish. Although I really like drinking a good Calvados, I wouldn't have come up with a Calvados finish here. I think the cask finish was still quite fresh and a certain amount of Calvados ended up in the whisky. It probably didn't hurt him, but that shows again that many finishes from the BW produce a delicious whisky (85 to 87.5 points), but any character that is appreciated in whisky and points over a number of is lost 88 because what I love about whisky is no longer clearly structured and everything seems a bit muddy.
Нос 88 The first attempt is unfamiliar and I have no idea what type of barrel or what finish it was. Bourbon and sweet wine are the aromas and the whisky does not appear young. The distillate is compact, oily, heavy and clean. Over time, more nutty aromas and Oloroso or Amontillado could also have been involved. Here he seems like 15 years and 50 percent. With water it looks fruitier without losing volume. Apricot and Persimmon. I like it better this way because the acidity takes a backseat and the (presumed) bourbon cask shows its flavors a little more clearly.
Вкус 87 Lots of sweetness again and some tartaric acid, again a mature and oily distillate. Here the whisky shows a little more wood and unfortunately also (too much) tartaric acid. Here it still seems like a maximum of 15 years old and more likely after 53 percent alcohol strength. With water, the acidity also takes a back seat here and I like it better with water here too. However, the whisky is not completely clean, it appears a bit out of round and the aromas are too interwoven or too intense / clumsy. But not untasty.
Финиш 87 87.5 The mouthfeel is as described above and is good, mouth-filling and oily heavy. The finish is medium-long, sweet and this is where the alcohol content is at its highest, around 58 percent and only a maximum of 12 years.

From time to time Marco Bonn also bottled something from Ireland. This is a 9 year old whisky from an unknown distillery with a finish in Calavados casks. Teeling, Bushmills – who knows? At least Great Northern isn't... Pale gold in color that goes with the apple.

A nice whisky, but the Irish character is difficult to discover because of the Calvados.
Нос 86 Vanilla, very sweet, citrus, melon, malty. The alcohol is very present and sticks in the nose.
Вкус 86 Strong alcohol punch, fruity, malty and spicy. Also vanilla, honey and citrus.
Финиш 85 The aftertaste is short and spicy. Vanilla and a nice bitterness.

With water it is quite a pleasant young whisky. Otherwise, at least on the palate, it is a bit too alcoholic-spicy for me.
Нос 87 Light and soft on the nose. Malty, grain, muesli, sweet rice pudding with cinnamon and some fruit. Vanilla, lemons, some apricots, melon, peach. Exotic fruits are in the foreground here. The alcohol is already very present and provides a cooling, sometimes slightly stinging feeling.
Вкус 85 Strong, fulfilling start. Alcohol is dominant at first and creates a lot of steam! Spicy chili, somewhat bitter oak spice, fruit notes emerge somewhat hesitantly. With water: Softer, more elegant approach. Cereals and malt appear, as well as fruit components. Pineapple, peach, slightly sour citrus aromas. Vanilla and caramel provide more sweetness. Some milk chocolate and a few roasted aromas of nut and almond appear in the background. I like it that way.

Нос 85 It starts pinchy with notes of ginger and white pepper. Immediately after it turns sweet with notes of vanilla, honey and fruity toffees. Fruity hints of apple, nectarines and a little touch of lemon. Malty notes of hay and cornflakes. At the end a little hint of green herbs.
Вкус 86 Sweet notes of vanilla, honey and chocolate. Next fruity layers of apple, pineapple, nectarines and plums. Again the ginger and pepper. After that barley and licorice and at the end menthol.
Финиш 86 Short to medium-long. With notes of warm apple, vanilla, cinnamon and a bit of licorice.
