Молодой (11 лет) Mortlach от Signatory на бочках из-под олоросо и бурбона: насыщенно-фруктовый, хересный, с тёмными сухофруктами и шоколадом. Согласия много, вердикт — приятный и питкий, но молодость и цена вызывают вопросы.

В аромате преобладают спелые тёмные и красные фрукты — вишня, сливы, изюм, чернослив, красная смородина, а также сухофрукты, апельсин, орехи, какао и лёгкие пряности; фоном идут сырое дерево, влажная лесная подстилка, земляные и минеральные ноты, у некоторых — тесто, трава и даже нотка бекона. Вкус чаще хвалят за плотную маслянистую подачу с тёмным шоколадом, вишнёвым джемом, изюмом, орехово-кожаными хересными тонами и умеренной пряностью, переходящей в приятную сухость и лёгкую вяжущую горчинку; послевкусие от короткого до среднего, сухое, пряно-перечное, с вишней и ванилью, у части авторов — с заметной кислотностью. Оценки очень плотно сгруппированы (в основном 83–89), расхождений мало. Опытные ревьюеры отмечают хорошую сбалансированность и зрелость для такого молодого возраста, но ставят в упрёк неполнотелый, «плавающий» вкус, короткое послевкусие и завышенную цену за юный спирт, который в слепой пробе трудно опознать как Mortlach из-за смешения хересной и бурбонной составляющих. Менее опытные более снисходительны и восторженны, называя виски насыщенным и необычным, хотя и они признают, что после отличного аромата вкус слегка проседает, а спирту не хватает выдержки, чтобы «усмириться».

Beautiful nose, airy palate, short finish, aromatically balanced and not a bore. Not a must-have, but still so varied that I could drink it with pleasure if I were offered it.
Нос 86 A warm compote of red currants, strawberries, cherries. A few mild spices sprinkled on top. Slightly musty, damp wood, loamy forest floor. Plums, raisins, cocoa.
Вкус 84 Fruity, light attack, floating, doesn't seem to touch the tongue completely, so it doesn't fill the mouth. Nevertheless: it gets off to a pleasant start with plums, raisins and red currants, later glides into the spicy direction (no longer musty) and on the way takes a few caramels and dark chocolate with it and sniffs a few tobacco leaves that have been hung up to dry .
Финиш 82 The floating impression from the tongue results in a relatively short finish, but it is tasty and fits well with the rest of the performance.

Нос 88 A very pleasant, full, creamy smell, with a wonderful balance of oak scent and sherry influences, with rich and sweet fruit aromas dominating. In addition to sour blood oranges, I too find deep red cherries, dry nuts, and something dirty and earthy.
Вкус 89 In my mind's eye I see a basket full of lusciously sweet, dark fruits, a bag of treacly raisins and sugary prunes. It makes me feel like I'm chewing on a piece of dark chocolate sprinkled with chipped oak wood and tobacco crumbs, leaving a pleasant bitterness, depth and a slight astringency. The alcohol doesn't hide, but it also doesn't need to be diluted with water.
Финиш 88 The aftertaste is long, strong, peppery, dark fruity, malty, beguiling.

Overpriced for what (i.e., how young) it is, but a decent sherried sipper.
Нос 80 Bright & fruity, but a bit young, with a yeasty, boozy touch.
Вкус 85 Much better. Good texture, and the sherry provides a nutty, leathery, elegantly dry touch. The fruitiness (the typical Mortlach gooseberries & greengages) remains on the bright, bourbony, young side. The interplay between the different cask types sure is fun. Pretty sure I wouldn’t have recognized this as a Mortlach in a blind tasting, though.
Финиш 82 Short to medium, oscillating between the sherried and the bourbon-matured components.

A beautiful and quite mature malt that you can serve to anyone. Very pleasant, very drinkable, a nice start to the Advent calendar. Notes from a blind tasting. Admittedly, I would not have thought of Oloroso.
Нос 86 Immediately after pouring, it has a strong minerality and sharp yellow fruitiness. After a few moments it becomes increasingly sweet and creamy, like cake batter. There is also a hint of grass at the back. The intensity of the fruit aromas is enormous, and they are still strong even after putting the glass down. After a while, the fruit notes are no longer sharp but rather rich and ripe, but the yellow fruits remain. The cake dough is more intense, the grass has almost disappeared. As the hand warms up, the aromas flow out of the glass more intensely, sweetly and fuller. The grass also makes a comeback. Later, the grass takes over in combination with herbs.
Вкус 85 In the mouth you can immediately feel the herbs, closely followed by the sweetness of the dough and the fruity notes, which are never dominant. The start is slow but strong. In the second sip, the notes are a little stronger at the beginning, but fade away more quickly, and at the end a distinguished acidity appears.
Финиш 85 The finish is a slow fading, overall medium length, leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste on the tongue at the end. The acidity carries over into the finish in the second sip and dominates it for the first half. At the end it is a little less bitter than in the first sip.

Signatory Vintage has relaunched the Small Batch Edition. I liked the old, clear, orange labels better. But of course it's about the whisky. An 11-year-old Mortlach made from 1st fill Oloroso and ex-Bourbon was bottled here. The color is very dark. glen-efze.de

Huh this is definitely unique whisky, nose is really nice, palate is little bit weird but also nice... If i have to guess i will say this oloroso cask were too long at sun and it went a little bit off... but weirdly it gives some interesting dimension to whisky... I think value is okay at todays market

Delicious Mortlach with a great nose. The rest falls off a little.
Нос 87 Gentle and soft on the nose. Some wet forest floor, spices and fruits are the first aromas I notice. The fruits appear juicy and fresh. Goes in the direction of oranges, tangerines, apricots. There are also typical plums and raisins. There is a note of red wine in everything. A bit more intense is a kind of bacon smell. In the background there is more oak, vanilla and something like an overripe, mushy banana.
Вкус 84 Nice viscous attack on the palate. Nice spice, not too spicy. Fruits like raspberries, cherries, a slightly sour gooseberry mix with spices of cloves and nutmeg. There is also a leathery, nutty moment. Caramel and chocolate add some sweetness. Leaves a very pleasant mouthfeel. Unfortunately I don't have the bacon here anymore.
Финиш 83 Medium-long finish, slightly woody, some tasty vanilla tobacco, chocolate. becomes drier

This whisky still seems a bit relaxed on the nose. The taste really gets down to business and the oak hits straight away. Plus fruity, sweet jam and pleasant spices. Nice whisky for such a young age.
Нос 84 Some pepper and oak at the beginning. Then sweet red wine, fruity cherry, some plum and spicy cinnamon. Now add a little acid.
Вкус 86 Spicy oak comes straight away and the mouth becomes dry. Behind it there is a malt note, delicate chocolate and cherry jam.
Финиш 85 A long, dry finish, with sweet cherry and some vanilla.

Rich creamy and fruity rendition of a sherry cask at an affordable price. Alcohol is less well managed and harsh needed a quite few drops of water for my tastes. The toned down version brings out the typical sherried notes of cherries , raisins, malt, honey mustard, plums and Christmas cake with Madeira cake. For the price a tasty malt.

Nose: sweet, red wine, oak, light cherry, a little dirty, some blood orange, marzipan, after a while the cherry gets stronger and the red wine disappears, slightly sour in the background • • Taste: sweet, oak, cherry, malt, spicy • • Finish: short to medium long, sweet spicy oak remains. • • Conclusion: A pretty interesting whisky. A bit reserved on the nose, but the oak pushes the taste quite a bit.

Good summary of styles. The bourbon influence seems to temper the sherry barrels a bit, and that works well. Nice hint of sulphur, mixed with nuts, which seems to be the new basis for all types of sherry maturing. Good balance, nice experiment with these batches, the Glenrothes is also nice. This one is my preference.

Нос 86 Dark sweetness, malt, and Mortlach depth – like a plate of caramel, raisins, and plums resting on a warm, slightly meaty oak slab. Add to that spices, a hint of leather, and a subtle sulfur note that brings complexity rather than disruption.
Вкус 86 Robust, sweet-spicy, and oily – like a thick thread of honey trickling over dark grape, plum, malt, and chocolate. Add to that warm oak, spices, and the typical Mortlach "beefy" core. The texture is full, powerful, and surprisingly mature for 11 years.
Финиш 85 Medium to long finish, warm, spicy and slightly dry. Caramel, dark fruit, oak and a hint of leather linger – like the last notes of a slowly dying fireplace.

Bonus point for the price and the natural presentation (unchilled filter, natural color)... comparing this with the official bottlings. Such a shame Diageo it's just ruining what could be an amazing spirit You sense the oak, the sherry influences, but also sweet fruit aromas, oranges, dark fruits, tobacco. An excellent dram, already stashed a couple of bottles
