В аромате преобладают спелые и тушёные фрукты (абрикос, манго, киви, персик, апельсин), мёд, вереск, а также молочный шоколад, карамель, тоффи, сладкая выпечка и кофе с сахаром; заметен выраженный эффект старой бутылки и подчёркнутая солодовость, из-за которой зерно распознаётся не сразу. Во вкусе — мягкое шелковистое начало с лёгкой пряностью, насыщенный фруктовый кекс, сладкое апельсиновое желе, чай с мёдом, кожистые тона; текстура плотная, маслянистая, «жевательная». Послевкусие сладкое, округлое, средней длины, с лёгкой сушащей терпкостью и пряной остринкой.
Оценки очень согласованы — разброс всего 86–88, что редкость. Опытные ревьюеры особенно отмечают дегустацию вслепую (образец невозможно было опознать) и разницу в 15 баллов против современного розлива, подчёркивая былое качество марки и присутствие солода Strathisla; один уловил уксусные и мускусные ноты, не сочтя их изъяном. Менее авторитетные авторы фиксируют схожий профиль, но указывают на нехватку сложности для более высокой оценки. Существенных расхождений между группами нет — все сходятся на том, что это мягкий, сладкий, зрело-фруктовый купаж, заметно превосходящий нынешние бутылки.

Quick hit review. Old blends from auction can reveal stunningly good whisky, and this Chivas Regal 12 from the 1970s has definitely exceeded my expectations. Notes of apricots, mango and cinnamon rise from the Glencairn, and I am picking up hints of heather honey and pastries. There is certainly some old bottle effect. On the palate, stewed fruits, tart and kiwi fruit offer a delightful tasting experience, interwoven with tinned peaches, juicy oranges and gentle tannins. Silky mouthfeel. Ripe gooseberries, baked apples and mild spices accompany the creamy finish. This blend is light-years ahead of contempory bottlings, and there is some great Strathisla in here. A bottle donated to the bar by Slàinte Mhath. But I was first served a dram blind. And have to admit even though I've tried old -70's Chivas I had no idea what was in my glass. 15 points more than my score for the contemporary Chivas 12 speaks volumes about what this brand used to be.
| Нос | 86 | With 43% it is gentle on the nose. It definitely smells old. But I was unable to determine if it was "cask old" or "bottle old". So malty it took me quite a number of sniffs to detect any grain. Milk chocolate, caramel, sugar coated pastry. Even coffee with at least three large spoons of sugar. Faint hint of copper. Very interesting. |
| Вкус | 88 | Soft silky arrival with a feather of spice. Moist scrumptious fruit cake. Just delightful, I can hardly believe it is a blend. I don't even miss a higher ABV, it sits just right as it is. |

Thanks to Peatbogger and Slainte Mhath for letting me revisit the 70's again. There was some differences in this one to the ones i tried and I loved it.
| Нос | 87 | This takes me right back to the two bottles i had recently. That old bottling smell is very distinctive. The kiwi fruit and it's ripe in this one, almost fermented. The herbs, spice and caramel toffee. Getting some vinegar in this one that I didn't get in mine but it's not offencive. |
| Вкус | 90 | This one is quite spicey which is great and the flavours are superb. I can taste the grains for sure and again they are soft and subtle. The flavours you can almost chew and they are thick and oily. This tastes more like the back end of the forties in percentage. |
| Финиш | 88 | The finish is long and the spice is unforgiven. There is a bit of muskiness which I like at the death. |

Nearly 50 years of bottle aging, at least 12-year-old components and 43% - that gives hope for a beautiful, old blend. And that's exactly how it turns out. Lots of malt, but also a good amount of grain with a suitable sweetness from vanilla and corn.
| Нос | 87 | The nose is a sweet blend of malt and grain, herbal candies, toffee, caramel and orange biscuit. The flavors are perfectly blended and sufficiently concentrated. It lacks a little complexity for a higher score. |
| Вкус | 86 | On the palate, it's a touch spicier, although the grain sweetness is still very present. Sweet orange jelly, rooibos tea with honey, and leathery aromas. |
| Финиш | 87 | The mouthfeel is soft, round, and dense. It's very, very pleasant and gratifying that this blend delivers consistently throughout, right to the end, without any faltering. The exit is medium-long and flawless. |
