Classic According to legend, Glenturret was founded in 1775 as The Hosh Distillery, making it the oldest. It was not until a century later, in 1875, that the name would be changed to Glenturret. For a long time it was known as the 'Home of the Famous Grouse', but that time is long gone. Because the distillery has been owned by Lalique since 2018. But we taste a real golden oldie, namely an official release of the 12-year-old from the 1980s. Classic Speysider nose on sweet malt sugars, yellow and white fruit and vanilla, but also grass and soft forest scents. This surprises me. Has not lost any of its strength, despite being in the bottle for more than four decades. Unfortunately, the taste comes first with a hint of OBE, which makes it relatively perfumed. Sneakers and rotting oranges come first, followed by some chewing gum. Phew, that's a bit of a bite. But once you get past that, the classic flavors return: vanilla, sweet malt, toffee and baked apples, some orange zest and licorice. And I have to say, this is better than the current version of Glenturret! The finish is unfortunately ridiculously short. Blink and you missed it. Still, it's nice to be able to taste such old releases, I think. Thank you, Dieter!
