В аромате умеренный херес Олоросо — сухофрукты, изюм, шоколад, кожа, яблоко с корицей, дуб, ваниль, карамель и лёгкая цитрусовая свежесть; аромат почти единодушно называют лучшей и самой проработанной частью, богатой и элегантной. Вкус средней или лёгкой плотности: шоколад, тоффи, кофе, дубовая пряность, чёрный перец, имбирь, сухофрукты и умеренная сладость, но многие отмечают водянистость и плоскость, приглушённость на низких 40% крепости, лёгкую горчинку дуба. Послевкусие короткое или среднее, пряно-перечное, шоколадно-дубовое, у одних тёплое и чистое, у других плоское. Наиболее опытные ценят благоприятный баланс хереса и бурбона (выше Fine Oak) и хотели бы большей крепости; расхождений между опытными и остальными почти нет — обе группы сходятся на разрыве между отличным носом и разочаровывающим вкусом. Критика в основном о цене: крепкий средний виски начального уровня по завышенной, порой премиальной стоимости, сопоставимый с Balvenie 12 Doublewood. Оценки очень согласованны — плотный разброс от 75 до 88 с ядром около 81–83, редкие выбросы вниз (71 с навязчивым кофе, 79 с нотой моющего средства) стоят особняком.

Нос 84 At the very beginning, Sherry Oloroso is strongly felt. A feeling of "dryness". Chocolate. Dried fruits. Raisins, but so less sweet. Traces of citrus underneath. Vanilla, caramel. A pinch of spices. Cinnamon. Maybe some ginger. After a long time, some oak notes came out.

N- Chocolate with trace of soft rubber from the sherry oak, shaved wood linger at the background with vanilla and treacle, sour fruits and mango. Nice. P- Medium body, pungent pepper with spices. Dry and direct. F- Medium-long, clean, smooth and peppery, soft prickly wood, waxy and warming. Spicy coating. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

The nose is by far the best. Rather disappointing in the mouth. Would then like to try in comparison but the 43% US version. Maybe that has more pep.

The Sherry is quite ethereal, mostly Oloroso, leather and applesauce drizzled with cinnamon. Intense wood, we feel the veins, the bark, the wind in the leaves. Lemony freshness, a touch of caramel, fruits from the orchard. On the palate, however, it's a bit light, almost watery, vanilla and lemon, liquorice, kumquat and lychee. Completely mastered spices, cloves and cardamom. Long, woody, smoky, delicate, elegant, fresh, mellow finish. Fondant with apple, white grapes and green olives. There is great work on the barrels, the nose is excellent. fruity, hints of vanilla and sherry, well balanced, some spices, not too much of it, some spices, some wood, some malty tones as well. finish could be longer. Nice entry level macallan. very easy to drink and the finish is all right.

This one reminded me of the Macallan Elegancia (the very last version) Vanilla en sherryness in the nose, not overwelming. Lots of fruityness, sweetness, some woody notes on the palate A gentle warming woodspicing finish with an spiced oragy touch A very nice, I get the feeling they are getting slowly back on track again.

Entry level malt at premium prices. Juicy plums, vanilla, orange caramel, light honey. A few spices and nuts thrown in the mix for a nice easy sipping dram. Nose of butterscotch caramel and vanilla. Good balance on taste with apples and butterscotch and smooth nutty taste. Slight cinnamon aftertaste.

The second Macallan, which is a massive disappointment. If we ignore the price, it is certainly not a bad whisky, but at a price well over 100 euros, it is, with all due respect, a bad joke. The Macallan fanboy faction will please forgive me, but I have drunk better whiskies for under 30 euros.
Нос 79 Very faint nose of vanilla, lemon, honey, oranges, red apples, a little buttery, light wood and ginger notes in the background, you can even sense sherry, otherwise pungent, alcoholic, metallic, rather young on the nose.
Вкус 83 Absolutely watery with only subtle notes, which are really good though, the sherry comes through really well here, along with vanilla and toffee. A slightly sour note of currants comes through, the aroma of washing-up liquid dampens the taste and, together with the really weak taste, prevents a good rating.
Финиш 77 The finish is overall quite short but pleasant, a bit too peppery, nothing special, unpleasant because the detergent taste lingers longer than hoped.

Нос 86 The nose is pretty clean and well rounded with hints of honey glazed citruses, chocolate, marzipan and dried fruits.
Вкус 83 The taste is slightly sweet and little bit spiky with notes of black pepper, chocolate, caramel and assorted nuts.
Финиш 81 The finish is quite dull and short with touches of salted caramel, milk chocolate and assorted dried fruits.

Not a big fan of this expression. The nose is simple and sweet. The taste is has some harsh spiritiness and tannins that don't sit well with the other tastes. The finish is also very short. It's okay, but I won't go looking for another bottle again.

This is a lot better than the NAS gold and more like the old 10-12yo. I hope Macallan start moving away from NAS bottlings and bring more of this type out at reasonable prices. £45 this cost me and the best Macallan I have bought for a while.

The Macallan Double Cask 12 Year launched in summer 2016 beginning in Taiwan with more releases planned in Asia, North America, the UK, and other international markets by the end of the year. The release will eventually be part of the company's core range and is made using both American and European sherry-seasoned oak casks, hence the name. After a 12 year maturation period, it is bottled at 43% ABV.

copper. Sufficiently strong and fairly full nose with lots of citrus, orange peel, chocolate, vanilla and ginger. Despite the 40° sufficient body. The citrus in the palette is less sweet but more sour, complemented by wood and spices such as pepper and sharp ginger. The ginger continues strikingly in the sharp-bitter aftertaste. Has a lot for a 12yo in style for the enthusiast. Overpriced like everything from this distillery.

If you are looking for a balanced sherry whisky, it is not bad. It would be similar to the Macallan 12 Years Sherry Cask if you took out some of the fruitiness and added a bit of sweet texture. However, there are many options for entry-level sherry whiskys. I would not repurchase. I tasted it two months after opening, with about 20% of the bottle left.
Нос 85 Sweet honey. Chocolate. Vanilla. Dried fruit. After pouring whisky into a glass and leaving it for a few minutes, a sweet scent spreads out faintly. A warm, sweet scent. Balanced, neither empty nor sticky. The dried fruit feeling is not strong. It shows its face occasionally in the sweet flavor.
Вкус 86 Pepper. Wood. Chocolate. Dried fruit. The first note is a spicy peppery note. The woody, smoky note passes by for a moment, and then a sweet note lingers. It seems closer to chocolate than caramel. The texture is quite soft and creamy. Sometimes the sweetness feels like fruit, but it is not too strong. The fruity note is slightly hinted at the end.
Финиш 83 Sweetness and spice. Medium weight, but fades quickly.

This is a very good whisky for a price of €70 in October 2022. Smooth, beery and definitely the sherry cask influence is felt. I think 43 or 46 degrees would be more appropriate. The American market is more privileged at 43% than the European at 40%. Let it breathe a bit in the glass and bottle. It is not worth diluting it with water or ice.

Compare this to 12 Sherry Oak today. Weaker and milder odor. Less dark fruits, and more vanilla and sweetness. Less dark fruit and spices in the taste. Gets a little tame and neutral for me. Prefers Macallan 12 Sherry

Woeful presentation. Whisky dishwater at this 40% ABV, essentially. The only saving grace is that the almighty Macallan distillate can be ever so slightly gleaned behind the curtain of watery disappointment.

Too watery, only 40 ABV. Too expensive for what offers. If it was cheaper, I would buy it without many questions as a nice single malt, but much inferior than many others that are cheaper.
