tasted as a part of the tour as new releases with new LB, 25 and Longrow Red. Enjoyable dram remind me on the first sherry batches which were without sulphur.

My first of these, so I have no comparison or reference to the series. Reminiscent of a Cadenhead's Campbeltown living cask handfilled bottle bought in Edinburgh circa 2014 and deeply missed ever since the last drop. Though that had more sea air and toffee (perhaps from a bit of Longrow, maybe even Springbank in the mix) and was a bit less hot.

The beach at first. Heavy oil. A bit of fish. A hint of sulphur. But the Kilkerran profile—factory, toffee, dust—and delicious red fruit, especially cherry. Syrupy, syrupy cherry. Amarena, or Luxardo brand maraschino. With cooking in the house, the barest sulphur hint turns to garlic: fascinating and not bad. In fresh air: no sulphur, but that cherry note, hint of cola or Angostura. Like the world's best Manhattan. |

Yes. Delicious, simply. Better than the world's best Manhattan. Cherry Kilkerran. You feel the strength and the youth in a good way. Not huge on complexity, just bigness and deliciousness. Extremely moreish. More youthful heat with a little water, then softer and sweeter with a little more. Doesn't need water, but it's good to play around. |

I can't help myself here, but it's not my taste. And it looks something like this...) First sniff is a recent classic young Springbank, Hazelburn and Glengilly spirit which is mostly pine to me! Here I have to explain what the word in the needle means to me! This is pine resin + a bitten fir branch + rosin under a soldering iron + and on a violin bow + the aroma of a raw coniferous forest! Secondly, all the classic aromas of sherry come into play here, but delicately and unconvincingly. Especially when he breathes for about 20 minutes. As the nose sinks deeper into the glass, the alcohol interferes with the sensation. Taste - expression + slightly prickly and sharp alcohol with bitterness from a dirty and sour sherry barrel). But everything is quite tasty, but not mine! Aftertaste alcohol + sulfur + wine bitterness. Depending on the degree of intoxication, it seems different. The more you drink, the more you like it! I repeat! The youth of spirits that the barrel could not grasp! Nose - 21 Taste - 21 Finish - 21 Balance - 21 Rating - 84 Still added a drop of water. In my opinion, it is better for this release. The nose definitely becomes richer and more diverse. Yes, it is much easier to drink...And the needle of the young spirit of the distillery becomes much more pleasant!
Awesome complexity with mix of flavours
I would have never guessed this as an 8 year old, tastes way older, and I can only imagine what a stunner this would be at double the age. Nose is a nice mix of ash, red fruits (mainly strawberries), motoroils, sandalwood, caramel chocolate, cappucino. On the taste more cigar leaf and ash, lots of sweetness, maybe a tat too much for me personally (strawberries), darker chocolate, slight soy sauce. Finish: Bloodorange and Motoroil (sounds like it would be a great album) This one is definitely getting better with time (not that it was ever bad), and in contrast too most bottles, the smoke seems to come more to the foreground. I think a bit more age to balance out the sweetness, would make this into something I would absolutely adore, but this is not a complaint, it is lovely as it is.
What. A. Dram! There’s so much going on and this has so much to offer, and while it’s busy, rich and layered, to the point of becoming a ‘decadent’ whisky even, it’s never ‘stubborn’ or ‘difficult’ to access and asses.

Gently nutty, but the (THE) thing that immediately and obviously grabs your attention, is the rich, luscious fruitiness. Notes of super ripe, juicy berries, blackcurrant and half a dozen other black and red fruits jump straight out of the glass, rather than the dried red fruits notes you might expect from an Oloroso cask matured whisky. All sitting happily alongside an element of oaky spiciness and a pleasant, soft, musty funkiness. A suggestion more than actual notes of deeper, darker sensations of treacle and syrup, alongside very shy notes of dried fruit notes are hidden behind all of this and are betraying the Oloroso casks, and it seems their here to actually help lift that funky, juicy, yeasty fruitiness. The merest hint of smoke puts the cherry on the cake. A few drops of water and everything (!) gets amped up and accentuated even further. This is one of those whiskies you could just pour and nose all evening, feeling utterly happy and content. Bliss! |

The higher ABV shows, but even then the flavours prevail: again very rich on fruit notes, both that super ripe fruit note from the nose, but those dried fruit notes are more obvious and more present now as well. Again everything is very well integrated. The spiciness, the oaky notes, the musty, funky Campbeltown signature: it’s all there and it’s all presented beautifully. Rather than cranking things up, adding water now helps to ‘dissect’ things, allowing me to discover the layers and (not so) subtle complexities. Particularly those deeper notes of dark fruit, treacle (rather than caramel), wood and a warming smokiness are easier to uncover instead of being thrown at you in one big delicious wave of flavours. Also, I’m now picking up a lovely salinity here, reminiscent of the salty element you can find in liquorice. |

A very fun sherry bomb kilkerran. Spicy, berry fruity, slightly sour.
It’s decent on first outing. It’s also fair for the RRP. It’s not worth chasing or paying over the odds for. Just a bit too one dimensional even though it has the funk. I think I just prefer a bourbon Kilkerran or the standard 12.
I struggle to understand the high ratings. 88+ on more than 110 ratings should at least indicate it's a good dram, right? To me this was one of the weirdest drams I've ever tasted. And bear in mind: I LOVE funkiness in whisky - I adore the Pulteneys, Springbanks and Benromachs of this world. I even like Kilkerran, especially the 16. But this? I had massive amounts of plastic and pesticides on the nose, and an incredibly astringent note that dominated the flavour. It wasn't even a spoiled sample, because it came straight out of a bottle that had been open for a few weeks. When I read some of the notes here, I just can't wrap my head around them - and maybe/probably it's just me - but this just isn't my whisky. I'm not going to rate it because it would be below 75.

Very gourmand sherry, brown sugar, sponge cake, brown sugar, caramel éclair, and behind, beautiful dry smoke, we burn hay, with vanilla and a touch of iodine. Shortbread biscuits, but with the sea air, as if soaked in foam. A lemon zest that brings freshness. Breton cake with orange blossom. In the mouth, it is a little watery at first, then it thickens, dry vanilla, tall grass, and the spices rise, white pepper, liquid honey, peanut butter, and finally a long finish, barely explosive, hazelnut cream, buttered corn, sweet almonds. Absolutely wonderful, the distillery has really stepped it up a notch with this Batch, with a bold and perfectly balanced profile. Only the mouth has a small fault, slightly watery at the beginning. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2024/07/kilkerran-8-yo-cask-strength-2024.html

Batch #9 [WB: 226522] vs. Batch #10 [WB: 248082] They are inevitably comparable, yet still different. While Batch #9 has a fair amount of funk/dirt, robust notes, and smoke paired with rather bitter sherry, Batch #10 comes across as much "cleaner." Batch #10 has less funk/dirt and smoke. Additionally, the sherry is fruitier and sweeter. Overall, Batch #10 is probably more palatable for those who sometimes find Campbeltown malts a bit too heavy. I, for one, belong to the group that can't get enough of the grit. The finish of Batch #9 is somewhat dull, so for me it's almost a draw. Batch #9 might have a slight edge for me because of the funk. In any case, these are two really good malts with character that offer a lot despite their young age.

84+ Small 4cl sample. I love Kilkerran, but for 100 euros you can do much better than this (and older than a mere 8 year-old): 50 euros would be a more suited price. The worst Kilkerran I've had in my glass thus far, which is a testament to its greatness within the modern whisky landscape.

Raw vegetal notes, sweet and sour smoke, dirty peat and sherry notes, clearly a noticeable amount of sulphur going on, at least on the first sniffs. Young, rough, but still plenty of character, despite it being a bit removed from my usual interactions with Kilkerran. Mineral, woody, caramel oil, all the common modern sherry aromas are there (sour berries, chocolate, dusty nuts), but they have not showered in a few weeks... Fascinating, not always as a compliment. |

Way more tamed here, creamy, mineral, the sherry is much more composed. Clearly juicy, red fruit berries, malty, way more aromatic, quite well put together for such a young buck. Still mineral, vegetal, young and dirty, quite intriging. It feels like one is licking quartz in the mid-back palate, together with a funky crushed pineapple sugar crust. Once again, fascinating, not as over the place, yet still wild. |

Medium length, soft, ethereal. Mineral, bright, sour zesty fruits, a sweet alcohol note reminiscent of rum, airy citrus and barley notes. The wood is secondary, but still some oils coming through. Faint smoke in the background, industrial sugary sweetness lasts longer. No doubt unique, definitely not a favorite. |

Bit dirty too- fishy /. goulash kind of influences. Hint of cucumber (yes). It adds something fresh to the raisin-sherry bomb. And there we are. A beautiful dram to cherish and drink. Mmmm...

So, the pallet is a mix of floral fruitiness with toffee taste. Bit funky too- hidden cucumber. Goulash. And elderflower. Goulash is a fact; like a meaty full taste. Mmmm. After some oxidation I get some wood, leather, raisins, sherry and some burned matchsticks. Hint of sweet corn. Fishy touch at the end. Cra-zy. But sooo goood. |

A gift from a Texan friend living in Glasgow. Given the vast distances in Texas he thinks nothing of a run down the Kintyre peninsula to Campbeltown on his day off. There and back in the same day with his wife driving the return leg. After giving him some advice for his first trip he returned with this belter of a bottle as a gift. The bottle has found a place in my heart. Kilkerran means the church of St. Kieran and given that my son is called Kieran, I've had to let him help me polish off this bottle. This is my first bottle of this stuff. Apparently there is batch variation from year to year. I'll look forward to finding out (if I can get my hands on it.)
This, and the Kilkerran 16 2023 are both superb!!

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2024/09/07/plastic-oh-no-band-glengyle/ N: Sherry, sherry vinegar, balsamic vinegar, sherry musk, sherried biscuits, a maple & fruit-sweet meatiness, honeyed wafer, something of macaroons, berries on pancakes over melted butter, scorched & buttered corn on the cob,… lots here. T: Our first victim of the plastic sample bottle epidemic though it’s not as impaired as some. Moving swiftly on, the presented cask strength is nigh-on perfect. A little water here and there won’t be a detriment though I found less is more in this case. A decent whack of malt to go with that sherry makes for a head-nodding acknowledgement of an excellent partnership. No doubt you’ll find heaps more to add to your nosing list F: Giving Springbank 15 a run for its money [WLP488], the sherry contingent continues to butt up to the maltiness, the peat ever-present but integrated as opposed to a stick-out feature. C: With plenty of wannabes reaching for this style, Glengyle seems to have found ‘it’ at just eight.

Here, too, a similar picture at first. Mainly sweet, spicy, dark fruit from currants and elderberries, which lingers for a long time. Only over time does a tartness from cranberries and oak appear, slowly replacing the sweet fruit. Tannins become widespread and have an astringent effect. Even though the typical Campbeltown funk seems to be only subliminally present in this batch, the malt is incredibly exciting for me. The alcohol is very well integrated and there are no off notes in the sense of sulphur (which I am very sensitive to). |

Quite long and warming, with this slightly dirty, rubber feel to it, ample sweet malt and honey, caramel, but the constant presence of nuts (especially peanut), dried fruit and wood. |
Let me begin by stating that I am not a sucker for every malt Campbeltown out there. Many are - albeit admittedly well-crafted - a bit demanding to enjoy (casually) due to their distinct funky style. That being said this 8yo is imho as good as it gets for the age. Superb cask selection though not from "normal quality Oloroso butts". The notes are different but give the distillate the chance to beautifully intermingle with the cask influence. Among others, cassis and cherry notes on the tongue and a sexy weird Campbeltown nose just work for me. Special stuff, I am very pleased indeed! :-)
Today a comparison between the Kilkerran 12yo 70% Bourbon/30% Sherry (ID 232684) from 2023, the Kilkerran 16yo 98% Bourbon/2% Madeira (WB165746) from 2020 and the Kilkerran 8 CS Oloroso (WB248082) from 2024. For me, the 12 and the 16 are pretty close. However, the nose and mouthfeel of the 16 are better. The distillate is very good in all three whiskies, only in the 8 CS the cask influence from the Oloroso casks is too intense for a truly authentic Campbeltown whisky. 12s = 85-86 points 16 = 87-88 points 8 CS = 86 points Definitely not the best representatives of their kind. I have had much better vintages from all three categories.

er: nice, hints of classic Campbeltown, but also a bit flat and easy. For 50 euros it is still more exciting than most comparable bottlings with these key data. Some rough sea air, a little salty, a good amount of vanilla. The longer it breathes, the sweeter it becomes, the bourbon aromas become more and more intense. Green curry spices. 85-86 Kilkerran 16: comparable to the 12, but significantly more voluminous in aromas. Maybe it's my imagination, but the 2% Madeira cask content is noticeable in the nose through fruit aromas of cherry or grape - how can that be? Doesn't seem quite as mature as its 16-year-old, but that could also be due to that unmistakable rough note. 88 Kilkerran 8 CS: even rougher, stormier and more brutal than the two predecessors, but that was clear. Immediately after opening the bottle, I didn't really like the whisky; the fruity, dirty aromas of the Oloroso were too intense, too simple for me, and I also had a hint of sulphur in the background. Now, after a week, it's breathing much better in the open bottle. Cherries again. 86 With water, only 85 points, because now the bitter tartaric acid and the spicy matches dominate. Not particularly balanced. |

The alcohol is kept in check by dominant sherry casks, the spirit still has chance to shine, and all this combined makes for a dram for those with a sweet tooth. I already liked batch #8 (which was a full bourbon expression) for its fruitiness, but this goes one step further. Berry notes with fudge and marzipan. I get shortbread at almost every Killkarran. Smoke is virtually non-existent. Sweet raisins with a little chocolate on the back. Above all a little bit of typical Campeltown taste.

Great example of a sherried Campbeltown nose, with dark fruits alongside plenty of industrial, peaty ‘funk’. Doesn’t come across as too young, with the alcohol nicely integrated. Definitely benefits from a drop of water and some gentle hand warming. Super stuff that I can nose all night without getting bored. Slightly more youthful on the palate, with a bit more heat from the spirit. Long finish with the sherry and dirty smoke lingering. For £65 this was a great value-for-money purchase. Recommended!

On the nose, the bottling is very similar to its predecessor from 2023. The funk is also present here. At first it appears a little milder, sweeter and more red-fruity than its predecessor. There is also a distinct musty note and some sulfur. I also find sweet peppers, raisins, sourdough, leather and burnt bacon in the 2024 bottling. |

The 2024 bottling is initially fruity and sweet and the alcohol feels a little more present. The Campbeltown funk is there straight away and fits the sherry profile beautifully. The colleague is a little less dirty, but has a smokier taste than its predecessor. Raisins and dark chocolate are present. There is also tobacco and black pepper. |

While good, I don't regret not having bought a bottle while in Campbeltown last month.
Another fantastic piece of whisky food. Similarities with Springbank alcohols in their best examples are obvious. A sort of explosive mixture of Springbank and Ledaig. Phenolic spirits and good Oloroso barrels are a great combination! And, of course, one could add a few points for such a modest age, but such high quality! 22 23 22 22

Great nose, sherry notes, mild peat, Hessian/machine oil, very layered for 8 years. Alcohol is well integrated, but I still punches, a little water doesn't hurt. Honeyed richness, gentle pleasant smoke, oily, fleshy with some youthful bite. Medium length. A real pleasure.

A scrumptous whisky and well worth the original asking price. It's a little hot and dominated by the cask, but there's a lot going on and it's worth savouring. It doesn't need water but takes a drop pretty well.

Great Kilkerran. In my opinion the best 8YO Kilkerran edition since 2022. Lot of fruitiness, sweetness with dirtiness and ash. Well balanced.
This is my third attempt at this edition of Kilkerran before it was rated. While the first two didn't impress me, the third attempt turned out to be what I was hoping for. Sweet, with a dirty wine barrel, an old library, with lots of sherry fruit, blackcurrant and grapefruit peel, all well wrapped in peat smoke with delicate spiciness and maritime-pharmacy flavors. I have already ordered the second bottle and at a good price of around €75

Absolutely no comparison to Batch #9 (Sherry), which, among other things, scored highly with its notes of a cellar that hadn't been aired for a long time. Batch #9 was: great on the nose and palate, but a bit nasty on the finish. Things are a bit different here, as Batch #10 is very consistent and delivers quite well from start to finish. I had a hard time writing tasting notes for this batch; only now, after finishing about half the bottle, did I begin to form impressions I could put into writing. At first, I missed the otherwise typical dirty note, but at the same time, I really liked it. If I were to buy a batch again, I would always go for one that's dirty, bordering on sulfurous, but even this comparatively clean, masterfully clean batch is a hell of a lot of fun.

Prunes, raisins, dried figs, dried apricot pieces – sparkling clean Oloroso sherry casks were used here, not the slightest hint of sulfur or even dirt can be detected. While it does have a slightly loamy, earthy, and slightly mineral note in the background, this is nothing compared to the typical (pleasant) dirt that a sherry-aged Kilkerran 8 CS otherwise feels entitled to throw around. Warm cherries, blackberries, blueberries, spiced cocoa, dark chocolate, espresso. |

Undoubtedly a medium-length finish, with a cheeky berry sweetness peeking through here and there, but overall the sweetness quickly fades, making room for mineral, earthy, and maritime notes. At the very end, there's even a hint of a cheerfully crackling campfire. |
What a variety of shades! From fudge to smoked fish. And at the same time, everything is smooth, soft, balanced, one aroma passes into another. Excellent Sprat!
In itself a really successful composition. Made of smoke, 'Campbeltown Funk' and sherry. In a direct comparison with my reference, Batch IV of Kilkerran 8 with 57.1%, it falls short. On the palate I struggle a little with an earthy, slightly sour vegetable note. An unusual type of beetroot? In the rather long aftertaste, a kind of plastic/rubber note seems to shine through repeatedly. Overall, not bad, but not really great either. Facebook: #Maltkanzlei

Nose: Seems well aged. I primarily have strawberries, some ash, iodine and Lugol's solution. A bit of raw meat in the background. The alcohol is well integrated and the whisky appears harmonious. Palate: Well matured here too, but a bit too much ginger, perhaps. Incidentally, strawberries again, iodine and now additional dried dates, which make the whisky appear dry. The ash is subtle and the burnt cotton candy is there. Overall, it seems to me that this one comes across as more mature than last year's comparable bottlings. Finish: medium long with dates, strawberries, iodine and a little ash. Conclusion: I like it quite a bit, even better than expected. No disturbing youth, harmonious and still enough funk. The strawberry note blends in well, although it's not generally my favorite flavor.

Nice, oily mouthfeel. I would actually recommend a little water, then the whisky opens up wonderfully. Wood, fruit, minerality. The alcohol fades very quickly with a little water, leaving only light umami/meat aromas. Fruit is still the dominant category: orange oil and glazed strawberries. A very worthy, interesting and tasty whisky, without sharp edges, dense, thick, full-bodied, organic. Sweet tones of dark berries and dried fruits dried on cooling coals with notes of varnish and sage, tea leaves, but without cloying bitterness, which only adds to its plus.
COLOUR : dark amber - a super 8 year old single malt at cask strength - mega quality - the “young” 8 years are hardly noticeable - can be enjoyed even without water - for EK 70€ super PLV, for the usual 90 – 100€ maybe a bit too expensive, up to 80€ still acceptable

Young Kilkerran and Oloroso seems to be a winning combination. Slightly less dirty than batch 5 in 2021 (although I'm a fan of that rubbery and even slightly sulphury profile), but still rich and robust, with dark fruits and sweet meats melting into the well integrated smoke, minerals and honey.
