More peated than its brother Kilkerran 12. Kilkerran is much more citrusy and "fresh". Also I dont feel any sherry undertones in it. Im not much into sherry tones, but they are not that present in Springbank. Still... Kilkerran 12 is more interesting and cheaper. Its the better Campbeltown right now.
20.12.16 16/217 / Old Label At first walnuts, oloroso and gunpowder. Sherry is dense, subtle smoke, copper, cider. Already on the nose briny/mineral notes, chalk, lime juice. drop of water brings out yeast and champagne. After a while there is clay, cold cigars, touch of menthol and licorice. Vibrant mouthfeel, very non-mainstreamy
[July & August 2023 batches] Slightly less fruity than the August 2021 batch but still equally tasty and complex, with a lot of parallels in the tasting notes. [August 2021 batch] Leather, books, barley sugar, fresh bread, pears, peach, sunflower oil, stewed apple, papaya, barbecued pineapple, oranges, nuts, light peat, machine oil, earth, gunpowder, fennel, chocolate, starfruit. Becomes fresher and brighter with water, though it doesn't necessarily need it. Every time you go back to nose or taste it, something different is unearthed. Deserves all the hype that surrounds it.

Grassy, almost floral. In addition, light sweet fruits and a very subtle spicy smoky note.
S 7 Coming back after a year of trying this, having more experiences and a richer vocabulary bank. Compared to the palate, the nose feels thin & mellow, hence setting a low bar for the palate to be surprised. A few drops of water will open up the fruits & spices on the nose but also enhance peppery species on the palate. Overall, a very rounded malt for a first-time Campbeltown malt drinker. 81-85 - Another dram welcomed

Nose-feel is to the cooler side that’s slightly mentholated while a pinch of white pepper keeps prickling the nose. It then started with slightly oily malt that slowly faded and give way to the underlying citrus fruits (think orange), garnished by a handful of spearmints. Slightly charred oak brings out a hint of bitterness and more peppery spices. At the base, maritime notes and light peat provide extra volume to the nose. A whiff of honey & vanilla. |

Mouth-feel is mainly spicy (mouth-warming pepper) and mouthcoating in an oily & creamy way. Dominated by malts and sweet fruits (apples, tangerines). Only a light touch of bitterness probably from oak/peat. The coastal breeze is reinforcing and carries forward a whiff of distant smoke. The malty sweetness is reminiscent of sushi rice. |

If this were a cheaper and easier to find bottle in my neck of the woods, it would be my favorite 10 year standard entry single malt. I don't think that's much a surprise. A dram I can enjoy at any time of the year and suites itself to a wide range of moods.

N: rich and buttery, lemon sherbet, faint sweet smoke, silage after 6 months, a drop of water pumps the smoke and funk up P: nice mouthfeel, quite citrusy, a good first fill bourbon feel off this, medium finish, water makes organe essence, citrus rind and smoke become more prominent. A good whisky made great by price.
Soft earthy peat, brine, grassy, minerals, citrus fruits, oak spices, heather honey, ash. Medium finish and the 46% abv is integrated nicely. Bourbon barrel driven with a coastal Island edge. It's a good 10yo OB but overrated.
A highly complex and “dirty” style in the best sense, with strong Campbeltown funk. On the nose you get farmyard notes, engine oil, and a sweet-sour mix alongside malt and fruit. The palate is rich and layered, moving through syrupy malt, cereals, apple, spice (notably clove), seaweed, honey, citrus zest, barley sugar, lime juice, raisins, salt, earth, and caramel. It’s simultaneously sweet, savoury, and coastal, with constant interplay rather than a linear profile. With a few drops of water, intensity builds further rather than softening, amplifying the rugged Campbeltown character and overall complexity. Overall impression * Extremely complex and evolving profile * Strong industrial/farmyard funk and coastal maritime character * Excellent integration of sweet, sour, salty, and earthy elements * Gains intensity with water rather than flattening * Classic traditional Campbeltown style fully on display Verdict A highly enjoyable, rugged and deeply characterful dram that prioritises complexity and texture over polish .

Springbank 10 yo (46%, OB, 2016) Not everyone agrees with the new livery, but to me it shouts ‘we don’t care about the outside, it’s what’s inside the bottle that counts’. Something only self-confident brands can do, while I believe there aren’t that many of them in whiskydom. But onto this wee tenner, while keeping in mind that I had just adored its predecessor last year (WF 91). Colour: gold. Nose: no, really, it’s becoming boring. Such a perfect dry, almost top-manzanilla-like profile, with everything sooty, inky, tarry, mineral, saline… Even its fermentary side is a hit, when that can be totally disastrous elsewhere. And look, plasticine, that can be seen as a flaw elsewhere, but not here, because of the way it mingles with the other aromas. Boring boring Springbank… Mouth: I’m very upset now. I was hoping for some tiny flaws, something shaky, something that would keep the conversation going, something controversial… But this palate is disappointingly immaculate, deplorably perfect, and lamentably satisfying. Tarry lemon juice, waxy minerals, and sooty herbs. You know, I’m feeling I’m about to lose my temper… Finish: I’ve just decided to go on strike. After all, Alsatians are also French. Comments: I said no. SGP:452 – 92 points (but that’s my very last warning).
This is certainly one of the fruitiest regular 10yo bottlings. Just hints of leather, smoke and wood which is fantastic!

At first, a certain freshness. Then the nose opens up: vanilla, lime, orange blossom. And of course, that smell of hay, of a barnyard, but it's so clean, so smooth, that it goes down very well; I'd even say there's something pastry-like, something indulgent, like speculoos cream and shards of sponge cake. Behind it, a hint of sherry, with dried banana, currants, brown sugar. A touch of iodine and peat. Egg yolk. Dry earth on a sunny day. On the palate, vanilla and lime return, liquid honey, rather oriental spices, a hint of raspberry, coarse salt, a touch of citrus at the end, perhaps some exotic fruits. A very good finish, oily and mentholated, long and vegetal, green tea, and on the retro-nasal, the spices you find in Indian restaurants. Pistachios, sweet olives. I like it very much. A marvel of originality and complexity, a complete success. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2020/05/springbank-10-yo-46-original-bottling.html

Surprisingly comprehensive, balanced, full and arranged whisky for this age (10 YO) and strength (46%). We can find a lot in it - starting with more and less ripe fruit, through caramel, honey, vanilla, aromas of salt, spices, and ending with traces of smoke. It changes practically every time you attach it to your nose and sip it.

Maybe this sample has been sitting out for too long, or maybe my expectations for it were too high? I didn't even feel any surprises... It's just a normal peated whisky to me. The balance is really good, but the type of aroma is not particularly appealing. Nor are there any particularly prominent features worth writing about. At his current exaggerated price in the market, I have no reason to choose it. The total taste is 85 points, and the price is deducted 2 points, for a total of 83 points.

Springbank is the real deal. Worshipped by enthusiasts worldwide, this 10-year-old won the accolade of best Scotch in the 2023 OSWAs. No hype, it's consensus. On the nose, I'm picking up orange zest, TUC crackers and oysters, interwoven with bonfire ashes, cayenne pepper and mustard. The intense arrival features citrus fruits, pears and currants, sweet and sour, followed by savory, juicy and peaty notes. Firm mouthfeel. Dried herbs, cinnamon and salmiak carry over into the prolonged and earthy finish. I'm happy to join the chorus singing this malt praises. RATING: 4.2/5.0 stars ≙ 89 pts → FIRST-CLASS [+]

04/23/24 - 30 ml - thanks to Afonso, the Whisky Guy. Once revealed, the label appears to be disappointing, due to the "hype" surrounding the brand and price. If it weren't for some of the intensity, it would pass like a well-made blended scotch. Anyway, I was happy to meet it, to eliminate curiosity and know that it won't be a bottle to invest in.

88- 5th 5cl sample from the same bottle in a 1+ year period and it keeps on changing, always in a good way. This is exactly the type of profile I like (this, Kilkerran and Glen Scotia), so the bias is warranted. I wish every 10 year-old whisky was as memorable as this one, where the youth works favorably without needing extreme peat levels. I totally get people feeling semi-scammed after all the hype, but for people who love this profile, it does not get better than this at this age and with these specs.

Already greasy on the nose, in both an industrial (machine oil) and farmy way. Actually not that funky, just very malty, old-school, hay-like, zesty, honest. The smoke is super light here, and the wood is present but very restrained. Perfect combination of sherry and bourbon IMO, I would assume basically the same ratio as the old Kilkerran 12 --- the sherry casks are clearly of good quality, beefy and ubiquitously noticeable without needing to be loud. Dense on honeyed herbs, a bit damp-earthy. Quite fresh on fruits, both from the spirit and the casks (papaya, peaches, honeyed pinneapple), while the spiciness is toned down without losing any of its voice (warm sweet cinnamon). As it breathes, the smokiness tends to grow but it is never the central focus of the whisky, feeling to me akin to a sweet and smoky dusty leatheriness. A masterclass, so unique. |

Great texture for the age and specs, very malty-honey upfront with some nice fruitiness. The maltiness is not artificial, but instead develops into the more bitter elements of the barley as well, enhancing the spiciness from the clearly immaculate casks. The youth is present in a charming way, with some light metalic lemon notes together with an airy alcohol feel. The sherry casks are clearly more upfront than on the nose with more chocolate and juicy red fruits. More smoke here as well, more spices, more herbs, less balance but not less fun. |

Medium length, the beginning alone is too good to score lower than this. Depending on the day, this could be my favorite part of the whisky, but today it is actually my least favorite (I like this way of being). At the start, a powerful toasted maltiness appears, extremely engaging and unique. The aftermath is more subtle but lasts a considerable time (maybe even medium-long), with a strong and balanced spiciness, citrus rind and some dusty peat smoke, only to return to a vegetal and malty aroma again. Elemental, essential, spoiled by its own fame unfortunately. |

This note is specifically in relation to this batch of the Springbank 10 (batch 16/517, bottled on 20.12.2016), which was the first to carry the new design label. Insanely delicious whisky for a standard 10 year old bottling. I'm guessing they picked particularly special casks to create a batch to launch the new design with. In simplified tasting terms, this has a similar profile to the Springbank 9 year old local barley, but perhaps with just an extra layer of subtlety (partly due to the lower strength). All salty lemon, grease, earth and oils, weaved together in soft harmony.

I think it’s quite an overrated whisky with scores of 86+. I'm sure some people genuinely love it, but the youthful notes don’t really justify such a high rating. In terms of complexity, I would rate it as medium.
9 or 10. How do they do that?! To contain such complexity in just 10 years old whisky is just ridiculous. Best "budget" whisky.

Bottled June 2018. Just great whisky! Seriously impressed. Tons of complexity with different notes you can pick and pull with each sitting. Took these notes last night but I'm sure there are lots I'm missing. Arguably the best in the core lineup and beats out numerous Springbank single casks I've tried.
A pure wonder! Authentic and somewhat demanding, the Springbank 10 will delight enthusiasts looking for a malted delorean capable of bringing back those who taste it in austere but noble times. This is a rustic Whisky far from the sweet fashion that dominates the market, that of the "smooth" that we see blooming on many labels.

Für meinen Geschmack etwas zu kurz und schwach, aber sehr angenehm, fruchtig. |
This is the benchmark of entry level 10yo bottles. It feels a bit ridiculous to score it so highly, but my thorough enjoyment of it sometimes has me wondering if I should score it even more highly. The complexity and range of flavours can exceed some scotches that are double this age. On the nose, there is a mustiness reminiscent of used book stores, followed by a kick of spicy ingredients. Later comes the powered sugar and lemony tang. On the palette, the brine hits hard first, followed by a wave of medium peat and saltiness. Marvellously deft in how equally these flavours mix. Medium-long lingering finish. Hefty enough bite to fool you into thinking the abv is 50%+. Ever since I had my first Springbank nearly ten years ago, I always end up describing it the same way - muscular. Quintessential scotch whisky.
The aroma is subtle, soft, ashen, with background wine notes of light and small red berries, sweet nutty and caramel tones. The taste is brightly sharp on the first nose. Mineral, earthy, slightly salty and metallic, with a little staleness underneath. The aftertaste includes salt, pepper, a little bitter smoke and charcoal. Over time, he becomes more balanced and at the same time emphasizes his positive sides.
Just amazing stuff and great value for money

Along with ashy smoke and black pepper background. With water added: spicier, fresh green grapes and irony mineral note come out. |

0157-SPRINGBANK 10 yo CAMPBELTOWN SINGLE MALT SCOTCH Whisky 46%. ... I'm all for it. I like that my nose predicted pleasant things and my mouth confirmed them, and even delivered more. This carousel of flavors in my mouth... Salty, sweet, and fruity. Is there anyone who doesn't like salted caramel? It's worth getting a bottle of this and enjoying it right away, for the sheer pleasure of sipping. No rushing, no fuss.
Perfect example for a reliable handmade product. This is so old school. Best value for money. Look Diageo, this is Whisky...
For me, a standard that is always fun and never boring. I even like it better than older Springbank bottlings.

very nice balanced malt. I like it.
Really can understand hype about this bottle
When I first bought this bottle, I was wondering why the price of this 10 year old was 2x the price of other 10 year old bottle from other distilleries. Now I know the reason... Aside from being more scarce, this bottle taste like an 18 year old (and better than many 18 year old whiskies). Also, all Campbeltown whiskies I had tasted are superior. If the price will be lowered for a little bit, I will stock up SB10, SB12 CS and SB15 as my daily dram.

Complex. A layer of light peaty smoke is present. But it does not hide the fruitiness, sweetness, and the earthy smell. To be more precise: Some vanilla, mint, orange, a little malty, a little funky, a little oaky. Also, tiny bit of medicine note and caramel note. It smells like an 18 year old whisky rather than a 10 year old. Edit: Mossy, toffee notes. |

Get me a ticket for the hype train, I’m in. I knew Springbank’s reputation going in, so expectation were high. Then again, I was also expecting a lot from Arran 10 and other expressions from their range and those turned out to be not for me (I found them balanced quality stuff but unfortunately also quite boring). And though this shares some similarities with the Arran 10 for me (mostly the farmy/fruity notes), I find this has many layers of distinguished character on top of that. I started today’s tasting with the Kilkerran 12, which I know and like, so I could compare the two - as is done quite frequently it seems. I ended the Kilkerran’s second review with “I’m really hoping Springbank 10 will be this on steroids”, but it isn’t. I see plenty of similarities and both stand out with some form of Campbeltown character, but this to me is something I have yet to taste something truly similar to. The nose starts out very decent but nothing really special yet. Everything after that overdelivers. The taste is complex, full, layered, balanced and the experience finishes very nicely without losing the character. I’ll start saving for the rest of the range.

A lovely introduction to the world of Springbank! Color: A lovely light gold. Nose: Some bite, but beyond that, fruits, sweetness, some funk. Taste: Spicy, umami, sweet and mild funk (barley-like) taste. Finish: Short finish of mild bitterness and fruits.
Very delicate, very fine. A hint of smoke, a typical Springbank. The peat note is noticeable in the taste. But not dirty, but fine and round. I really like this batch!

Wonderfull scotch. Super well balanced. Sweet, fruity and only slightly smokey. I'm not a big peat lover so I love that the smoke complements the whisky and isn't the star of the show. Sure it's smokey but its way back in the background. It is definitely the distillate itself that is the main flavour. A bit of that Springbank funky-ness (cast iron wax on a planer/table saw is what it reminds me of). What a fantastic whisky.

Appearance: Medium amber-orange with reddish hues. Nose: Sherry really stands out in contrast to the other. Raisins, chocolate. Campfire, caramel, vanilla. I get a bit of apricot or peach here too, but less. Palate: Spicy, sherry, notes of cinnamon and ginger, caramel, apricot, smoke, peat. Very nice complexity. Finish: Sherry, with berries / cherry, light smoke, vanilla, oak bitterness. With Water: More sherry, more spices, more oak. With a bit more water, the stone fruits get stronger too. Overall: I feel I don’t love this bottle as much as I loved my first one 3-4 years ago, but it far outshines the mini. You can really sense the sherry in comparison. A fabulous whisky, and probably still the best 10 around.
SpringBank is hyped, and for good reason. Unfortunately, they have high prices, but everything I've tried has been very good. Let's see how this one does.

I have to say, it's alcohol-free and very fruity. It reminds me a lot of white fruit, like melon and pear, and with lots of honey. There's something smoky in the background, but it's kind of hard to find. I also got more fruit notes here, like pineapple. |

Medium weight on the palate, but with a burst of fruit and honey sweetness. It feels like I'm eating some kind of pineapple or pear dessert. Once again, zero alcohol. We also have a slight spiciness here, but very slight indeed. There's a citrus note on the palate as well, which I hadn't detected in the aroma, adding more complexity to the label. |

Great whisky for ~ 40 €, quite intense, no Gaumenschmeichler, great for getting started smoke / salt / earth. ------------ Note: On the occasion of bottle change with the predecessor https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/5896 compared in parallel: At the beginning, although the old nasal something more open-hearted rueber (the bottle was also about half a year open), but after I can not distinguish 5-10 min in the glass and would sign my notes to the same again, therefore 1: 1 taken over.

Springbank 10 year old 46%. 30ml sample at home in Twickenham, June 2023, on a day that hit 31 degrees. Pale golden yellow. Aroma is very fruity, pineapple cube sweets, apple flesh, hint of guava and apricot, vaguely meaty - like a hint of pork with apple sauce. Good aroma. Body is watery. Taste is fruity yet meaty and pungent, slightly waxy. Elements of a few differing styles here. Some Clynelish waxiness. Plenty of Mortlach meatiness. Some Balvenie fruitiness. Then the buttery oak and a white pepper subtle peat. Starts with buttery crackers with salt, moving towards white pepper before the punchy finish of pork and white pepper. There’s character in this for sure – plenty of it - and I can see why people would like it but for me it’s a bit of a confused flavour. I do like their production ethos but I can't be artificially complimentary for that reason alone. This is decent stuff but not something I would regularly pick up off the shelf personally. 3.45/82 --------- Springbank 10. 25ml dram, bottle code 24/266 (26/11/2024) at Melody Bar, Hammersmith, June 2025. At RRP this is a good option. Nice complexity and this batch is a lot more fruit forward than previous batches. Still has the characteristic cheesiness and pepper on the finish but more tropical fruit than I had experienced in previous Springbank 10 bottlings. Solid. 3.65/87 --------- Springbank 10, 46%. July 2024 bottling at a friend's house. Okay stuff but very simplistic - soft fruit esters over the bready malt. It seems that this can be a bit 'batchy'. 3.45/82
One of those I allways have in my storage
I have mixed feeling with this one. On the one hand I agree, that this is reasonably complex, properly delivered malt (the thich coatline on the glass and the rich legs are wonderful to look at), but asking more than 70 euros for a 10 years old whisky which is not cask strength is a serious ask. Nose: Salt, medium peat, gasoline, malty, citrus, iodine, dry wood Taste: More salty, less peaty, lemon, vanilla, caramel, barley sugar, bread Finish: More peat, woody, salt again Conclusion: This resembles very much Nikkas Yoichi, but with less yeastiness and more saltiness. I would probably choose Yoichi 10 over this, but thats even more expensive...
Nose: First chew of strawberry sugary gum, dried cranberries. It’s the first time I’ve encountered nose notes like this. I had heard that it is funky, and it actually is. The sugary gum note is so dense that I cannot pick up anything else at first, not even the classical honey and vanilla notes. A slight touch of peat follows. Close to the end of the glass, I started to feel mango and tropical notes. Palate: Cotton candy at first, probably influenced by detailed nosing that I enjoy a bit too much. Then malted barley appears, a bitter one. Not smooth overall, the notes are not easy to reach. It is very rich. The richness allows the whisky to evolve while drinking. I found it impressive. Finish: Bitter, with peatiness staying long in the finish. I did not like that, but OK Natural color, non-chill filtered, and 46% ABV. A very good combination for this price point. This was my first time tasting Springbank, and met my high expectations. It surprised me with its funkiness. Score: 86/100
The archetype of a perfect bourbon driven 10 year old.
Fruity, very sweet and wonderful smoky notes on this whisky. Its an amazing 10YO, very complex for the age but perhaps, maybe a little too low on ABV. Stronger AVB would have been amazing to wake up more of its flavours. Very worth it for the price you pay

The below notes are the Springbank 10 bottled in October 2020. It is clear from opening the bottle that you’re smelling something rather special. Even with the inflated prices of 45 pounds a bottle, it’s still good value. I prefer the nose over the palate / finish because of its distinct fresh, tart fruitiness. So lovely. I have a 2021 bottle as well, I hope to find the sour fruit there as well.

Fresh, fruity nose with plenty of dunnage funk. Unique pristine fruit notes on the NZ sauvignon blanc side (crystal clear gooseberry and kiwi) that suggest a white wine cask in the mix. The pleasant sourness of the nose is also a sign, lemon, orange, clove for spice, plenty of honey. Herbs - thyme and lavender. Yellow tropical fruit as well with a sweet and fresh pineapple. Apple crumble with a hint of vanilla. An evergreen medicinal tinge to everything. With the fruit and soft peat, reminds me of a bourbon barrel Bowmore. |
