В аромате отмечают цветочность и фруктовость с характерными нотами Bowmore, лёгкий дым, ореховость и цитрус, но также клей, сухое дерево, воск и мокрый картон. Вкус тонкий, даже водянистый из-за 40%, с солодовым сахаром, карамелью, солью, какао и неожиданной перечной пряностью, переходящей в дымок и лёгкую золу. Послевкусие короткое, слегка парфюмерное (фиалка), с горьковатостью и стойким белым перцем; тело для сорока градусов приличное. Хвалят историчность, тонкий торф и тропическую фруктовость, критикуют разбавленность, горькое послевкусие и краткость. Мнения расходятся заметно: самые авторитетные авторы сдержанны — сухой цветочно-древесный аромат, взрывная перечная пряность, короткое сливочное послевкусие и вердикт «не запоминается» (оценки 78–85), воспринимая напиток как честный повседневный виски с оттенком молодости. Менее опытные ставят выше (86–88), считая средний рейтинг заниженным и подчёркивая историческую ценность и лёгкий изящный островной характер 80-х. Разброс оценок умеренный (76–88), профиль описывают согласованно, расходясь в основном в итоговой ценности напитка.

[December, 2003] Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 30 Euro in November, 2003.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85. I took no notes.

(Update: I just had three Bowmores, two of them with distillates from the 70s and 80s respectively and I'm sure there's a majority of plain Bowmore and a lot of Caol Ila in there.) In the late 80s and early 90s, Gordon MacPhail's bottled almost everything in a batch that couldn't be sold as a single cask. During these years, various “Prides of” were released in drinking strength. This one was one of the last of them. Based on the reviews here, it seems like there were better Pride of Islay in the 80s, but I find this really exciting. The cardboard box and OBF note disappear once the whisky has breathed openly in the bottle for a month.

Нос	89	88.5 The nose is definitely Bowmore. Fruity, slightly sweet, OBF smoke and a bit of fruit punch. You have to deal with the 40 percent, otherwise you won't like it or won't take it seriously. But it's far too good and too much history for that. Because this is an exciting, light, subtle Islay whisky that is clearly more 80s than 90s, actually more late 70s than early 80s.
Вкус	87	87.5 The palate is a bit thin, but then a lot of great, light barley sugar and some salt pushes across the palate, only at the end a few hints of smoke. The OBF and the cardboard box almost disappeared after a month in the open bottle. I like it.
Финиш	87	87.5 The mouthfeel is fruity and light, with old Islay aromas, just subtle smoke. OBF yes... The finish is medium long. Only 40 percent? Who cares?

nose: glue (velpon), dry wood, wax, caramel taste: thin, gunpowder, spicy Doesn`t taste like an Islay at all.

The average Rating is way too low in my opinion. This is really a great matured islay malt from the 80s with tropic fruits on the nose. The only negativ aspect would be the slightly bitter aftertaste but hey who cares? Simple get another dram :)

Нос	85	Herbal Cut grass, green tea and the smallest, slightest hint of smoke. Damp wood and leaves. A light wet cardboard. Dried red apples.
Вкус	81	Growing dryness, a little dark cocoa, peppery which is surprising given the 40% abv. Spicy and then falls flat.
Финиш	79	Short, fades quickly but is slightly perfumed like Parma violets. A little white pepper persists.

The nose is the most beautiful, the taste can not keep up and seems a bit watery, the finish is nicer but short, nice for a blend but not a must

Вкус	85	Caramel, dried smoke, malty, slightly ashy... seems a bit watery

An honest daily. Depending on age and alcohol content, it is easy to drink. Rather moderate peat, but acrid and persistent, especially at the finish. A whisky that denotes a bit of youth. rather harsh citrus notes. The primary notes of malt are quite evident. The finish tends to be slightly bitter. Decent body, especially given the 40%
