Bronze colored with a step towards copper, the whisky in the glass is waiting to be tasted. 8 year old Edradour in the PX-Hogshead ... actually no details that make me listen. But the Local Dealer Selection already had one or two positive surprises with it and so a sample was immediately needed :) In my nose I have an incredible amount of "spicy" forest honey. The whisky has a sweet and sticky aroma. Now the sherry barrel is added to the honey ... with red and dark fruits such as candied strawberries, sour cherries, plums, raisins. But everything is covered with honey and therefore incredibly sweet. A strong nut chocolate is evident in the background. The alcohol can be felt in the nose but is quite well integrated for an 8-year-old whisky. After all, we are talking about 56.8%! Overall, a great nose, maybe a little too much honey sweetness. In the mouth, the whisky is oily and strong ... but the alcohol does not burn as much as feared and you can easily enjoy the whisky straight. The sweetness lines the mouth, honey, spices like pepper and some cinnamon, the dark fruits drop by briefly, but then quickly make room for the oak. The spices become stronger, a little liquorice is noticeable, the tannins now cover the tongue with hints of dark nut chocolate. After the first sip, the aroma in the nose becomes significantly woodier and the alcohol becomes more noticeable. In the finish, the spicy side with pepper, cinnamon, pleasant tannins (no bitterness), chocolate dominates, the fruitiness is still noticeable, but only in combination with the forest honey. Like a fruit salad drizzled with a little too much forest honey, which is why it dominates the fruit flavors. I liked the whisky better than I expected. I rarely had such a present forest honey sweetness in the form. A great barrel was chosen, great! The current price of 80 € is worth it, 10 € cheaper I would find more appropriate, because firecrackers like the Glendronach Allardice are not far away in price and a corner better for me.

Smells full and interesting. Sherry, meat juice prunes, dried apricots ... Tastes like a normal PX barrel made of American white oak, in which there are still a few liters left after pouring out the sherry. I think 4cl from a ten year old Edradour in cask strength with a teaspoon of PX Sherry would taste the same ...
