В аромате преобладают свежескошенный луг, травы и цветы, дрожжевое тесто и марципан (маркеры молодости), жёлтые фрукты, цитрус, груша, а также какао и молочный шоколад; спирт у одних интегрирован хорошо, у других выпирает резкостью. Во вкусе раздваиваются акценты: часть находит насыщенное шоколадно-ирисочно-карамельное ядро с кофе и корицей, другие — солодово-перечное, пряное начало с фруктовостью (груша, банан, вишня), мёдом и сухим белым вином; послевкусие от средне-короткого до долгого, с горчинкой, дубовой сухостью и жгучестью в горле. Хвалят за неожиданную сложность и питкость при малом возрасте, критикуют за зерновисто-опилочную грубость, спиртуозность и незрелый, стянутый хвост. Оценки согласованы плотно — почти все в диапазоне 81–88. Опытные ревьюеры расходятся сильнее прочих: рядом стоят и восторженные 86–87 («сложность уже есть»), и трезвые 82–83 с вердиктом «разлит слишком рано, поймали бы как образец из бочки — дали бы дозреть», вплоть до резко заниженной 69; рядовые же оценки ровнее и чаще подчёркивают приятную ирландскую сладость, тогда как скептики обеих групп сходятся на том, что terroir и «фермерское» происхождение ячменя — маркетинговый ход, а цена для трёхлетнего виски завышена.

Fascinating whiskey. 3 years, 10 months, 25 days old. If you leave aside the somewhat tight finish, you won't notice his very young age. Thanks to the incredible fermentation time of 131.5 hours? Cannot be determined that way. But the fact is that it is quite a board now - and I catch myself filling the empty glass with one last, but now really last, sip.
Нос 86 A freshly mown meadow that was not only covered with grass, but also provided with wild herbs and flowers. Fresh and floral with a hint of fresh yeast dough. Marzipan, milk chocolate.
Вкус 87 Rich and very chocolaty start. Toffee, fudge, milk chocolate, milk coffee dusted with cinnamon. Dry wood, dried apricots, whereby the fruit notes have only a very subtle appearance. The focus is clearly on chocolate and fudge, cocoa also mixes in over time, so that you get the impression of having a liquid chocolate-fudge-caramel candy in your mouth.
Финиш 86 The chocolate notes slowly fade, here and there a bit of spiciness of pepper appears, which is then softened again by cinnamon and coriander. Cold coffee with milk, coffee grounds, an indefinable sweetness.

Not too bad, but for me an example of a whiskey bottled way to early. Too much on the alcohol, it has quite some scent and taste, but not that deep yet. If it would have been a cask sample, I would say: it's doing well, good on it's way, but give it some more years and we try again. Unfortunately, it's too late for this one.
Нос 82 Fruity, pretty some alcohol noticeable, citrus, fresh, some glue as well.
Вкус 83 Strong, pickering, pepper, fruity again, light (white) fruits, pear, citrus as well, a touch of sweet and then even some lingers of musty notes.
Финиш 83 Still pretty strong, sweet and fruity, some bitterness now, but pretty long.

From the flavor, you can taste some traces of the traditional whiskey craftsmanship of the last century, but the woody and grassy notes of the new wood are too heavy, and the overall balance is still not good. 84 83 82 Update: How come the wine smells bad after being sober for about 10 minutes?

Нос 87 Chopped herbs, pizza dough, fresh leaves, green bananas, blooming moor, slightly mineral and flowery The alcohol is very well integrated.
Вкус 87 Fudge candy, sweet, white pepper, green grapes, a drop of honey, matches Difficult to describe, not particularly complex, yet full of body and no missing notes.

This is quite a good whiskey, although young it doesn't feel much like it. Yet I would like to see this one back in 6 years. I think it might be sublime.
Нос 86 Sweet, grassy, wet forrest. Quite herbal so to say. A bit yeasty and you get some marzipan notes which indeed indicate young age. Although this is quite well integrated already, this has potential to grow to big standards!
Вкус 85 Sweet and flowery. Herbal notes are here again. Some coffee and chocolate notes (with a swirl of Tia Maria). Not aggressive at all.
Финиш 84 Medium length. Here there is a little nib of the young age, a tad bitter and a tad unrested. Overall quite some caramel layered finish.

Delicious Irishman. Waterford's range is fun. Not bad here either, what can be put into it at such a young age. Only the price is too high.
Нос 84 Grassy, floral notes with herbs, light citrus with some pear and gooseberries. Somewhat malty, fresh sourdough, a bit earthy with little wood influence. Everything smells rather fresh.
Вкус 83 Malty, peppery, spicy start. Subtle note of sweetened chamomile tea, Goes in the direction of honey sweetness. Fruity like banana, pear. Fruitiness is more subtle, dry white wine, somehow also a bit chocolaty, alcohol is well integrated.

Waterford, the new mystery distillery from Ireland. If I got things right, Waterford will be able to produce a wide variety of different tastes, by using barley from different local farmers, each with their own style and flavors. The first bottles have now been released and I was lucky enough to get a sample of the first 4 different bottles. This is the 2nd one I get to taste.
Нос 85 Nose is for sure the best. part Young, grassy and sweet. It again reminds me of a young grain whisk(e)y.
Вкус 81 It again goes wrong in the taste. Oily and thick. Slightly alcoholic and bitter.
Финиш 80 Things do not get better in the finish. Bitter and unpleasant spices. Two down, two to go, but I am not really convinced about Waterford (yet).

Sniff: Lots of barley, but after a little while, the typical Waterford sweetness starts coming through. Pound cake, a hint of white port, or sweet white dessert wine. A hint of soil too. Sip: A rather gentle whiskey, with a combination of sweetness and a dry note of barley. Sweet with the same combination of pastry and dessert wine. Slightly more green with grass and ferns. Swallow: The finish is similar, but not the same. Dry and green with some sweetness. Less barley, more hay and grass.

Even if the barley used comes from a single farm, this stuff is far too expensive for a 3-year-old whiskey (or even whiskey, for marketing purposes, and the double distillation...), even if it's bottled at 50%. In my opinion, the taste differences between bottlings with farm names are due to the variety of different cask types. I consider attributing the differences to the terroir or the barley of a specific farm to be purely a marketing gimmick.

During the taste I get that typical Irish Whiskey sweetness, but overall I find this first edition of Waterford Sheestown not that impressive. Sure you’ve got to praise them for releasing this at young age and it’s interesting to see how this will be when it approaches 10yo. Back to the whiskey; grassy, quite some wood shavings and wood spices, some young unripe fruits and dashes of chocolate. Quite herbal and earthy.

Nose: Sweet, grain, sawdust, vanilla, some light fruit, light grape, some pear, glucose? ••• Taste: Sweet, grain and some sawdust, vanilla, some spices, oak ••• Finish: Medium long, sweet grain and light spices with vanilla remain. After a while some pear peel ••• Conclusion: The nose offers primarily notes of grain and sawdust with a certain sweetness. Vanilla and some light fruit are very faintly behind it. After a while light grape comes to the fore, along with some pear and perhaps a hint of cherry. The strong grain note subsides somewhat over time. I still have a note that reminds me of glucose. The 50% is present at the beginning of the taste. Sweet notes and some grain and sawdust are there again. Then vanilla and some light fruit come. Oak is also there. Overall a difficult whiskey. Difficult to decipher and the alcohol is only halfway well integrated. If you don't like a very present grain note you should avoid the whiskey.

A very appealing malt for its age.
Нос 88 At first there is a note of malt that is already moving towards beer. These flavors are superimposed relatively quickly by a fruit pot pourri. One discreetly recognizes banana, a little more present peach and also some orange peel. Perhaps there is also a hint of sea buckthorn here. A light herbal aroma and beeswax scent round off the odor profile. Very rich and great on the nose.
Вкус 84 The first sip reminds of hot milk for a moment. Then there is sweetness and fruitiness. Another subtle banana. But now some cherry and dried fruit. If you taste it for a long time, tones of vegetables and a light white wine note come through. The longer you have it in your mouth, the more pepperiness and spiciness it develops. It is a very strong and full whiskey.
Финиш 84 Long with sharpness that lasts for a long time. At the end the sharpness subsides and the initial sweetness comes out again.
