1541) The Macallan, Edition No. 6
Grand Finale There it is: the 6th and final expression in the Macallan Edition series. I had the privilege to taste it during an online presentation by Macallan, including the whisky but also quite a bit of explanation and promotional material. That was, of course, rife with promotional platitudes, but that’s only logical considering the fact that it was presented by the ambassador of the brand. Having said that: it was all impeccably organized, the parcel I received was out of this world (much more than just a sample of whisky, let’s keep it at that) and to top it all off: the whisky was very, very good. Wonderful nose on plums, cherries, toffee & coffee, caramelized hazel nuts, figs and a hint of cuberdons. Immediately a good spiciness with cinnamon and ginger. I am immediately reminder of a bakery during the end of year festivities. Nicely oily, immediately very sweet and again quite spicy, almost piquant event. The first sip is all about cinnamon pastry, roasted nuts, caramel, plum marmalade and coffee. From the second sip forward its more about walnuts and orangettes. Nice evolution in the glass. Yes, this is actually quite complex. The finish is long, remains spicy and sweet and is simply very satisfying. Textbook Macallan and a very worthy conclusion of this interesting series. Available for around 135 EUR. It’s my favorite of the series, followed closely by the second one. I’m so sorry I missed out on Edition No 1 and looks like I’ll never get to try that one.
Good balance (22), aroma - prunes, sherry, chocolate, nuts, dark berries. (22) taste - nuts, pepper, wine-sherry note, oily and tart (21.5) finish - longer than average, bitter-tannic, but not bad (21.5). Of course, a bottle doesn't cost 350 and even 250 is too much for such a NAS, but if Macallan released a regular release at a retail price of up to 150 - it would be a success.

Sizzling dark parquet varnish, tea leaves, buckwheat honey, cinnamon, fig and prune jam, bitterness of oak and oak bark.
I'm quite pleasantly surprised. The sherry influence is definitely delicious. Especially harmonious and stimulating on the palate. 86-90 – Wow, really good one, needs a bottle

Light, rather pleasant dessert whisky with fairly significant industrial mineral inclusions, well balanced, smooth, drinkable, rather watery taste, lacking body.
I like this dram. Fruity with lots to discover. I find most OB of this distillery flat and not interesting but this one has my attention. At the release price I would buy myself a bottle.

Remarkably similar to other Editions. It's a rather benign dram, something I would recommend to my non-whisky friends, which I have done before with the other Editions. To pay anything more than $60 USD for this would be a crime. |

Nice. Ok. Quite pedestrian, but that is what Macallan is nowadays, and it seems like it wants to stay that way. |
Lots of jam fruitiness and sweetness as well as dark chocolate, vanilla, some honey, a light herbal note and a pleasant spiciness. Very balanced, very smooth ironed, you have to like that. Find him very good.

I haven't had that many Macallans yet, and I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the current 18 year old bottlings. I have to say impartially and subjectively that I liked this one better.

Best Macallan I’ve had for a while, and much better than the standard, entry-level malts. Not worth the crazy prices being charged, but a good example of a well-balanced sherry cask dram. Rich, sherried nose reminiscent of the 18yo from many years ago (not the modern versions that can’t hold a candle to them). Definitely benefits from time in the glass and a drop of water, which enhances the depth of aromas. It just builds and builds over time…lovely (and easily worthy of a 90+ rating). Unfortunately, it feels a lot thinner and younger on the palate, perhaps betraying some youthful casks in the mix. A real shame, and makes it difficult to justify the price. Similarly, quite a short finish with a youthful, spirity edge to it. Glorious nose then, which almost justifies the entry price, but let down somewhat by the palate and finish. Difficult to score fairly as a result.
Ridiculous pricing, it has no value other than its collector value. A very ordinary but decent whisky. Typical sherry effect. You don't have to pay 200-300 or even 400 Euros just to buy a decent whisky! There are those who do better work for much cheaper. Moreover, the lack of transparency is truly an insult. Shame on Macallan. Price performance: Very Low Would I buy it again?: No.

Intense cocoa and nice filter coffee. Nice yellow fruits; both lively and dry. Dried apricots, languishing nectarines and peaches. Very toasty, corky, polished parquet. Old wood, slightly musty. A slight citrusy freshness, maybe like yuzu. Raisins, grape distillate; grappa-like fresh distillate. Maybe tobacco and a light Maraschino cherry. Orange peel. Well not the most atypical and complex nose in the world. Not bad, but the price? |

There is almost no burning on the palate, round medium body. Custardy vanilla base note and lots of spice, star anise, gray peppercorns. Cinnamon sticks. Light tannin. Slightly above-medium sweetness. Tobacco, light hazelnut, dark chocolate. Cocoa powder. Gingerbread. A little bitter. Again smooth, nice body, but is it particularly interesting? No. |

This is where things start to get a little grim; a bit of unnecessary bitterness and a slightly below-average length, warming finish that is not burning. Spices are in the foreground; black pepper and cinnamon, and oak spice in particular. Red fruits seem to be guarding the gaps in the background. Not much to say. |

Macallan Ed 6, 48.6%. Sample consumed Nov 2021. Pouring it into the glass instantly throws up apple aromas. Appearance is amber. Aroma is meaty and waxy sherry cask with Christmas cake, raisin, fruit n nut chocolate. A note that initially threatened to suggest sulphur morphs into Christmas cake. Some Jamaica ginger cake later on, along with some pink rose petal and Turkish Delight. This is a very, very good sherried whisky aroma. It’s complex yet cohesive, not obviously sulphured (especially when given time, and I seem to be sensitive to sulphur so I'd probably notice if there were a real issue), deep, and just pleasant to nose. Good casks – no corners cut – it shows. Body is oily. Taste is low impact, gives a sort of unsweetened fruit squash impression up front and into the middle, becoming spicier and spicier especially on the swallow. Spicy oak. Touch of redcurrant lingers on with the chilli ... maybe some salt and fig biscuit. Breathy and almost smoky char impressions in the finish. The chilli dominates. It’s not doing half as much on the palate as it does on the aroma, which is a shame. The aroma suggested a blockbuster, but it didn’t deliver at the business end. Nevertheless it’s a solid, enjoyable, appropriately seasonal whisky for these colder nights. Good. 3.575/85

A fine journey. There’s nothing quite like watching people get out of their prams and lose their minds over Macallan. You see the same kind of stone chucking and name calling in horological circles with Rolex and in the car world where the Ford Focus driver tells you why Bentley is crap and they’d never have one. Of course, reactions like these tend to say much more about the people making the fuss than the thing they’re getting so animated about. So, it’s finally over. Macallan’s sixth and final NAS edition has landed. It all started so quietly with no.1, no.2 blew the doors off and gave me the ‘fear’ and I’ve been enjoying them to varying degrees ever since. Now it’s time for the last one. And it’s a pretty thing. Baby you’re so blue! If there’s one thing everyone can agree upon (though some would never just to be obstreperous, cantankerous sourpusses) is that the look of this range has been wonderfully colourful and classy. This final one is a beautiful sky blue that has a backstory tipping its hat at the river Spey. So. Have they done the range proud and given it a sign off worth drinking? No. It’s garbage. Macallan are idiots and charlatans and just a marketing company, people who like it are idiots, sheep, they only care about the brand recognition. This isn’t even good enough to wash my feet with. It’s getting 2 points from me. I’m angry and grumpy and petty and I need you to know it. ... Well, they have, regardless of what the Victor Meldrews' would have you believe. It’s lovely, a perfect word to describe it. Right away the nose telegraphs you all the typical Macallan elements. It’s all there, a sherry character that is unmistakable. It’s rich and solid like a big, old oak cupboard. Polished wood, bees wax, Manuka, raisins, dried plums, dried ginger powder and old, ground cinnamon, varnish and that chocolate thing that Macallan can do so well. I love this kind of smell at this time of year. I’m sitting here in front of a big log fire and it just works. Toasted oak and roasted, toasted crunchy nuts. There’s also a lightness of touch in there. It’s not some sherry monster that flattens everything in it’s path, it envelops everything gently. This is Macallan. Terrible stuff. Made by idiots. No, morons! Did I tell you I hate Macallan? In the mouth. Mmmmmmmmacallan. Well, well done boys and girls. Just the ticket. It’s not the orange oil bomb of no.2 and it’s less of the coffee and chocolate monster that I found in no.4, more body and heft than 3 and 5. It's sweet on arrival - I initially got flashbacks of sweet rums and sherry, lots of toasted cereals and nuts, the viscosity is as good as any of the others, it sticks to your ribs. It’s rich and warming but never veers towards any kind of harshness, it’s been polished expertly. Cinnamon, ginger, cocoa powder, gentle oak, toasted nuts and toasted Madeira cake crumbs, there's red fruit in there too. A smear of jam, some sort of red fruit, maybe a wayward raspberry or strawberry. I’m loving this. Another smear of Old Oxford marmalade. Pastry, some bits where it’s been slightly over cooked and the glaze is sticky. One small glass. 20 minutes after and my palate is still aware of the sherry and wood influence. It’s not a heavy finish but it’s strong and solid and has a lasting effect. ‘Medium+ but extremely persistent’ probably explains it best. Very, very enjoyable. Turns out I like even numbers, this is up there with 2 and 4 without a problem. Lovely. So a little story. I picked it up yesterday from my local booze emporium and made them open it on the counter and we all had a glass. And then I made the only other lockdown customer in there have a glass too (sharing is the best). This chap was pretty new to whisky and hadn’t heard of Macallan before. His unsolicited reaction was priceless. ‘Oh god, that’s the best thing I’ve ever drank. Period. I want what he’s got. Have you got any more bottles?’ I feel sorry for him. He’s gonna be another one of ‘those people’ who likes something for what it is and, will be no doubt, be told he’s an idiot by people who know better. Such is life. Cheers people.
It seems like sherry, but somehow everything is so well intertwined in the aroma. Berry-fruit well-balanced bimba! Good degree, drinkability, it's a pity that the price, as for me a beggar, is high. The last time I was so pleased with Tamdu 12 wo.

Once again, the fruitiness is shifting. More apples, vanilla, pears and light tropical notes are coming through, while dried fruits and chocolate are pushed into the background. The taste still has chocolate, caramel and oak tannins in the foreground, but fruity tones and ginger are also appearing in the background.
Managed to save a few samples after my one bottle hit the floor and the neck got smashed. Bittersweet, with the salty tang of tears, melancholy deep chocolate and dried confectionary fruits. Unjust was the end that befell this beautiful bottle. To soon flew the cork off its slender bottleneck. Greedy and cruel was the cold hard concrete that splintered its shell and absorbed its vigor. Good stuff.

Well, here we come to the tasting of the final release from the Edition series. Let's see what once again the super promoted Macallan has prepared for us in the release without a certain age. ???? Color: dark amber color ????Aroma: once again sweet and dessert... molasses, plum jam... creamy caramel... spicy spices and amazing dried fruit compote... maple syrup... echoes of a wine tavern where aromas of different wines hover... exclusively soft and delicate fragrance. ????Taste: dry and slightly tart taste... good freshly smoked prunes and raisins digested in compote are clearly felt... walnut-creamy paste... light chocolate-coffee flavor ????Finish: Delicate, long, slightly longer than average... coffee toffees, prunes... tart tannins of barrels... although if you taste a little more, it seems that the duration of the finish also increases... ????Conclusion: a very good release... nevertheless, my TOP of the tested (3, 4, 5, 6) in the Macallan Edition line is Edition #4, and this one is 2nd in the ranking. Who has not tried - run buy and try, while it is still sane. Who has tried - invest))) Points: 87.5 Inst: @whiskyliferussia

It's good, very good. full sherry note, rich in fresh fruit, ginger, chocolate, toffee, vanilla and balanced oak; beautiful, full, long, intense finish; fresh fruit, plum and sweet orange with spices, creamy chocolate. I'll get another, no, two bottles
Last bottle from the collection
raisins, dates and figs, followed by ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and a hint of cloves
The aroma is delicate, not pungent, dried fruits, plums, cinnamon, nutmeg, toffee, sweet but not cloying, a little musty wood, toasted toast. The taste is medium in density, moderately sharp on the first sip, candied cherries, the taste repeats the aroma, but with a greater intensity of oak, after a few sips, a buttery nut and a bar of dark chocolate are felt more strongly. The aftertaste is medium, warming, repeating again, light oakiness, spices, creamy toffee and toast crust. As a result, a pleasant tasty whisky, there is no surprise, not a sherry bomb, but with a good balance, with its degree is very light, perhaps it will open from some side over time. Grade 86
Well, the alcohol is poorly hidden, it's definitely not worth the price, I expected something more from Macallan
Nose; Olorosso sherry, spicy aroma, chocolate, prunes, "Candied milk" sweets, dark dried fruits. Taste: dark chocolate, cocoa, cherries in liqueur (Merengue), candied ginger, European oak barrels, walnuts, dark raisins .. The finish is long, dry, chocolate butter, oatmeal cookies, ginger appear on the tongue, a long, rich, warming finish! Conclusion, I think the spirits are average about ten years old, with sufficient strength of 48.6%, well-chosen barrels, worthy of sherry dram. Score "87 points" deserved.
A really nice dram, full of sherry and oak influence, a great nose, one of the best smell if you give it a few minutes in the glass. The nose is a bit better than the taste. Complex and well structured. I left my personal opinion in this review: https://youtu.be/2Vz-78mW4mM Slainte!
Glad I had a bottle because every time this Macallan presented itself differently… first time I could smell and taste chocolate… next time something different, perhaps coffee, light whiff of leather…. Fun bottle!!!
Very good whisky, finally in my whisky bar
