Плотный маслянисто-сливочный Ben Nevis: ирис, сливочная карамель, орехи и перец с характерной «грязноватой» животной ноткой. Крепкий типичный образец, но странно-органический, слегка молодой аромат мешает единодушию.

В аромате доминируют ирис, сливочная карамель, помадка и ваниль с мёдом, к которым добавляются жёлтые и тропические фрукты; почти все отмечают странную, «грязную» органическую составляющую — сырные и мясные ноты, тмин, мокрое дерево, солёные орехи (фисташка, арахис, кешью), металлический печёночно-кровяной оттенок и лёгкий дымок. Вкус плотный и крепкий, пряный с перцем, продолжает сладость аромата (ваниль, мёд, персик, карамель), но добавляет минеральность, горьковатые цитрусовые и ореховую горечь. Послевкусие долгое, сладко-перечное, с мёдом, грейпфрутом, сушащим дубом и, у некоторых, эвкалиптом и намёком на серу.
Опытные ревьюеры оценивают ровно и сдержанно (86–89), признавая типичность и добротность, но фиксируя странный, местами молодой профиль и без спешки покупать бутылку; один сводит суть к маслянистому ирису с оговоркой о молодости. Менее опытные заметно щедрее (вплоть до 89–90) и восторженнее, прощая начальную «маслянисто-органическую» странность ради полного насыщенного вкуса. Главное расхождение — не в описании (оно согласовано), а в терпимости к этой животной органике: критики снижают за неинтегрированный спирт, горечь и серу, поклонники ценят характерность и сочное послевкусие.

Quick hit review. Online tasting 01/2023. If you like Werther's Original, then this Ben Nevis is for you. Butterscotch and toffee left, right, and center - this nose is an oddball. Pancakes and yellow fruits are the only variables, and I can't help it: it appears young. Creamy caramel, honey and a punch of dry wood kick off the palate, and there is a weird funky note. The finish lingers with bitter walnuts, crisp apples and loads of pepper. It has its moments, but I wouldn't rush to buy a bottle. RATING: 3.9/5.0 stars ≙ 86 pts → FIRST-CLASS [-]

It starts very weird and not very great with this butter-like and strange organic smell. In taste and finish thing go the right way again, making it still a pretty good Ben Nevis.
