A well-made sherry-aged malt, but it lacks something of the distillery character. Positively formulated: An independent Springbank.
A nice Springbank, too bad it's slightly overpriced. I'm quite a loyal Springbank fan, but I think I'll skip this one.
[September, 2015] I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85. I took no detailed notes as the whisky did not interest me.

Rather yellow color, unusually light for a sherry cask. Smells very soft, spicy, not fruity, the wood is above the sherry. He was not too long at Sherry Wood. Very powerful, though still soft and round. Very pleasant taste, but also the sherry is not intense. Notes of carnation, liquorice, spices. No top whisky, but mature, typical Springbank ...

A grand and great Springbank indeed, that does not lose its character despite the influence of the sherry cask. Recommended (despite the heave price tag).
Better with water. 86 with, 84 without water.

A somewhat special spring bench ... I was a little torn, of course a top malt, but I would have expected something more, first impression is fruity and fresh, but I definitely see it behind the standard 18 year old bottling (at least mine from 2013) , Unfortunately, I don't see it (or not much) better than the 12 cask strength filling (Batch 14). But tastes may be different here. In short: Very good single malt, but below my expectations.
Good Sherry Malt even if expected more from it. Cannot compete with the recent releases of Local Barely 16 or SCOMA but is still enjoyable. Nevertheless for its money (120€) there are better options available!

Really good 17yo sherry cask whisky, typical oily Springbank character.
A good talk, with a characteristic Springbanks cheerfulness, a festive mood; beautiful deep and multifaceted aroma, strong, although mean to its components, taste, pleasant finish, balanced, drink.

Not the best whisky that Springbank launched the last years. It's not really balanced as it seems to balance between two different profiles. The coherence between nose, palate and finish is a bit lost.
The issue price when it was released was 109 EUR

There is surprisingly little fruitiness for a 17-year old from Fresh and Refill Sherry Butts. Nevertheless, the spicy wood is very interesting and delicious. I was hoping for something more from this springer, but I still have a wonderful malt in the glass here.
Nose: A sherry explosion with winter fruits, spicy gingerbread and a hint of smoke. Palate: A hot water bottle for the winter. Dark orange chocolate, Christmas cake and brandy candy. Honey and spices become clearer over time. Finish: long and gentle. Espresso, licorice, marzipan and sherry tickle the taste buds.
A whisky that hasn't been around for a long time. OK, it's available on the secondary market, but it's pretty priceless. It's a 17-year-old Springbank from the Sherry Wood series that was bottled in 2015, and was certainly rare, sought-after and expensive back then. Springbank has always been different - but not as overhyped as it is today. Back then, it was more the nerds who were looking for the whisky, not the investors. glen-efze.de

In all honesty, I have trouble understanding the buzz around this whisky. Yes, it is easy drinkable. Yes, it is easy to access. Yes, it is well done. But no, it's not an absolute killing, according to my tastes anyway. It is monolithic, and never promises mountains and wonders. He is monotonous, actually.

A very exciting and powerful whisky. In addition, complex and intense with an exciting interplay between smoke, fruit and spice. A great single malt - 28.11.2015

Pretty disappointed. Without the whisky being disappointing, we would like to have more. The sherry is discreet and it's a shame [05/2015]
A standard 88 scbp-5552, the first impression is very bad, need more cups to wake up to weaken the sense of salt. Although it was written about Sherry Bucket (pure Sherry Bucket), but only a little chocolate smell can make people force to associate with Sherry Bucket. The overall style is like a high-proportion bourbon barrel, which can be called a classic modern Genting flavor. You can find similar flavors and styles in various local barleys and 10 years, with standard but no highlights. In addition, this wine can have better maturity, better complexity, and better balance to take it to the next level.

Genting’s fresh sweet orange juice, sweet citrus peel, orange blossom water, machine oil, candied sugar, or orange gummies, vanilla, cream, slight sea water, and slight peat, are very in line with everyone’s inherent impression of Genting. After the cup wakes up, there will be coconut, rose, apple, oil and other odors added. 89 |

Tasted April 24, 2015 at a Drop-in tasting at Lyngby wine cellar Copenhagen ( http://facebook.com/vinkaelder ).
Compared side by side with 4 other Springbanks, this one just doesn't deliver. I expected much more, but the new Local Barley, Scoma, Archives and Casqueteers bottlings are way superior.
A very nice whisky with a clear sherry, without it dominating. I like it very much. Too bad that he was devalued to collectible. He is very good as a pleasure object.
Of the 1st Fill sherry casks is rather little to notice, but the character of the refill barrels fits perfectly, a tasty Wintermalt!

gold color, very slightly smoky nose with the Springbank markers in the background: minerality, wax, farm and iodine notes, rubber, leather ... on the front a lot of honey, vanilla, peach, apricot, milk chocolate, not very marked by sherry. Mouth sweet, creamy, honeyed, slightly sweet, very easy, some yellow fruit, toffee. Average length. A Springbank very much sated by sherry, a little too probably, but very greedy.

Luckily no sherry. Nice part
Springbank 17 year old Sherry Wood offers some deep, impactful and rich sherried notes and cleverly manages to maintain its balance and poise whilst still offering a decent hit of underlying distillery character. The nose doesn’t quite translate through to the palate, losing much of the farmyard earthiness (which I personally like in my Springbank expressions) to more typical sherried flavours, however the experience as a whole offers a good degree of cohesion https://www.thedramble.com/tastings/springbank/springbank-17-year-old-sherry-wood/
The noise is great, but the palate is thin and weak. A real disappointment. I disliked it so much I pawned the rest of it off to brother. His experience was not much better than mine.

Beautiful Springbank and fortunately a lot of refill sherry so you can taste the typical character more than the barrels. Maybe in the time of the release, what about the price but IB's of this age are often more pricey now.

Initially, I found the palate to be much more enticing than the nose. With water however, some of the more unusual aromas dissipate and make room for more classic Springbankyness. I was a little disappointed that this was not more sherried. When you see some of the official single casks, I ask myself why the official bottling have not more sherry influence than this (or the 12CS as well). It offers a great experience for re-fill sherry enthusiasts. Add in the mild smokiness of Springbank and you have a great dram.

No sherry bomb, as the label "Fresh & Refill Sherry Hogsheads" would suggest. Well, the color speaks for it, I think here were mainly used the refill barrels. But that's not bad, so Springbank's excellent distillate character has the opportunity to interact with the various sherry flavors. A nice malt, a nice Springbank. Whether you should have hyped him that way, I do not know ...

One of the more recent releases from Springbank: http://dramlicious.com/peaty-friday-episode-9/
I kind of agree with your perceptions, at the same time, for me that's just an extra dimension! No overpowering sherry like the 25 & no bad balance, and thanks to the discrete sherry a lot of complexity and a clear distillery profile to be found. I rate it 1 or 2 points higher than the standard 18. Some extra strenght does benefit this dram. Sure, no astounding bottling, and a tad under the 18yo for the Nectar (but different dram), but for me a very good dram. And the price… well, I must be brainwashed, but 99 euro for a 17yo sherry wood (big distillery) Springbank… I find it rather normal :-).
Tastes exactly like I would imagine how decent Springbank with a modest to medium Sherry influence would turn out. Nothing more, nothing less. The whole bottle did not provide further insight into potentially hidden qualitites you might expect the first two drams or a sample to not give away. Tasty Springbank, certainly not hype-worthy.
Weird stuff! Extremely gamey and sooty. Really interesting, in fact. I would never guess that a sherry cask was involved, but then again it doesn't really taste like typical bourbon cask aged Springbank either. No desire for a bottle but happy to have tried this somewhat feral whisky.
Springbank 17 year old Sherry Wood which has been bottled at cask strength of 52.3% and matured in 100% Sherry casks with 9,120 bottles
From a sample. Called "sherry wood" but it's quite a medium gold and the nose is not particularly sherry forward at all. Pretty nice though, with stewed stone fruits, sea air, medium smoke and peat. Mouth is kinda sweet upfront with stewed peaches and whatnot, then erupts into waves of peat smoke that take over through the mid palate and finish. Some cool fruits upfront that are a bit unusual -- I keep thinking "gooseberries". Who knows? Fairly hot and strong. Good.

not worth any hype. Solid Springbank. Not a sherrybomb (the colour represents this already), very oaky in the finish with lots of oranges and spices.

I have already read in one place or another that he needs some time in the glass, and can absolutely confirm that! The smell of delicious at first, but then it gets better and better. It has really rich sherry, fruitiness and light smoke in the nose. You hardly feel the alcohol. Then it goes on in the mouth as well. You can taste the typical Springbank character, sherry, sweet and sour fruits and spiciness. Everything really nice oily, provided with a slight hint of smoke. Again, I find the alcohol is not too dominant. A slight tingle on the tongue is there, but I would not like to add water (maybe later, to see how that affects the taste). The finish is long and warm. Sherry and smoke remain in the mouth for a long time.

I have to agree with Bishlouk. I'm quite a sherried whisky fan, and Springbank bottlings have been reaching high standards lately, but this one was rather disappointing. A few years extra in the cask could've done some magic, like a friend of mine said. Nevertheless, decent whisky, but not for that price...

Distillery: Springbank (Campbeltown) Age: 17 years Distilled: April 1997 Bottled: January 2015 Key Type: Sherry Cask Alcohol content: 52.3% Edition: 9120 bottles Price at show: approx. 130 € My personal attitude before the tasting : Springbank is my favorite distillery and always liked to try out the sherry keg. The 14-year-old batches, which in recent years for jazz, blues or other editions filled things were my first choice, with three more years it should be something. The price is of course not just low, almost ten thousand bottles, the standard 18y (although 46% and is only about 80% Sherrycask), is well below this bottling, compared to the 21-year-old, who has just appeared and with similar Data comes up like the 18y OA, only 3 years older and limited, but is incomprehensibly much more expensive, of the 25 year old, the other day I would not even speak first ... I mean, bargains are not here, but given other examples the price is okay. ... so, now to the point: Eye: The beautiful red of the bottle label suggests a darker malt. He has a nice golden color, but is not noticeably dark ... Nose: ... yes, sherry is definitely here ...., ever wine, red wine (?) ... not too dry ... baked apple (?) ... the Springer-typical hint peat ..., with some water it gets much sweeter and orange notes appear ..., wet-technically, water definitely brings progress ... Taste: ... very nice, orange notes, dark chocolate, 2-3 raisins, again wine, but no red wine, only slightly dry, any spices, a light Hach Christmas ... jo, very pleasing. The alcohol is well integrated, I am not inclined to add water ... in the service of the Tastingnotes written here I do it anyway: ... aha ...., also nice, a little easier, of course, nope, good that I have tried it, only the finish takes light damage ... Finish: well, I do not know if it's because I know that it's a Springbank, otherwise I might have said, he has Springbanköligkeit, remains long and well-tried. With water he is a little faster away, but you should try it urgently. Conclusion: Jo, I'm certainly biased and had expected no nonsense, he has met my expectations at least. A beautiful sherry jumper at the age of 17, nothing more, nothing less. Compared to the Christmas Malt Edition about equal to Best Dram / Whisky Chamber. 88 points
I remember seeking this out. However, I was disappointed when I opened it. It's good, but the 12CS & 15 year olds are much better than this. It tastes like the majority of the casks must have been refill American oak sherry hogsheads.
