Quick hit review. Online tasting 03/2026. My initial thoughts in this blind tasting: a well-matured Speysider, not overly complex and a bit generic, probably an official bottling. Yeah, that sounds about right. The nose is quite inviting with red apples, oranges and lemon peel, rounded off by vanillin, toffee and floral notes. On the palate, drying oak and nutmeg emphasize the age of this malt before the fruit basket with more apples, pears and grapefruit returns. Silky mouthfeel. Bitter lemon, almonds and sweet grapes remain in the resinous finish. I don't mind sipping this Glenlivet - it's a pretty solid dram - but we all know that at this price point, there are far better options. RATING: 3.9/5.0 stars ≙ 86 pts → FIRST-CLASS [-]
The first try I almost tilted out of the pines, so I was overwhelmed. Intense sherry, old oak, round and yet complex. Terrific!
Nice nose, taste and balance, but it's a bit thin because the low 43% ABV.
oh man - the smell of something so delicious and you look incredibly on the first sip and then you have something of dilute diluted malt in the mouth - with 48% or more he would be madness, so you have divined divine barrels of water

An excellent mole, a huge leap in comparison with the 18-year-old, the nail of the program is certainly an aroma, lively, changeable, playing many colors, the taste can not boast such a wide range of components, but surprisingly saturated and powerful, the aftertaste closes, smoothes and prepares the background for the next sip. Very well, after the official 12th and 18th years of the samples of extreme smoothening, boredom and dreary sluggishness of whisky that appeared for me, this is just a powerful rehabilitative breath of fresh air, returning interest to the distillery.

Certainly not a sherry bomb like the Glendronach 21 or the Glengoyne 21, but extremely balanced, complex and soft. Lots of dark chocolate with a light note of sherry, lots of fruit and a certain nuttiness make this whisky one of my all-time favorite standards.

Right away. The scent is intoxicating. The palate okay. The finish short standard. Just my opinion: it lacks the magic of 21 years of maturation.

wow ! A fantastic fruit plate is in the room! In addition, very floral notes with sweet, spicy oak. Respect. Far away you can still smell the Christmas market. No question... this nose is very special. |

In the middle of the Christmas market with a bit of bitter oak spice. It conveys sweetly what the nose has promised. But unfortunately a bit watered down! For me the palate is a slight disappointment. Still, it remains a high standard and I'll be honest, I like it now. Great sipper by the fireplace. house whisky. |

Seasoned medium to rather short with light pepper and pickled in honey. Simple, pleasant, sweet, salivating, warm and spicy. Unfortunately that's it. Sorry guys, with such a good 18 in the program, that's not the logical step up. I expected more. |

Above my expectations, specially palate, really interesting for 43%... I think this is whisky everyone can enjoy! Alcohol or spiciness are nowhere to be found, complex enough so connoisseurs can dig into it... Specially after getting some air! I think, I would pay recent auction prices for this (~115 euros), mostly because this is for everyone!

This was quite nice but lacked a bit in body and character.
(Tasted blind) OVERALL: My guess would be a Highland style whisky between 17 and 25 YO. Total score 87 points.
candy and dates on the nose, well balanced and elegant in the palate. A great, easy drinking, well aged whisky.

It's excellent on the nose, very delicious on the palate and decent on the finish. Expected more spicy oak and less fruitiness. I would very much like to have this one in my whisky cabinet. (Rating interval 86-89)
Time and air allow this initially closed and smooth-ironed malt to blossom properly. Doesn't open up the first time. Edith: And not the second time either ;-)

A fruity note suits you and the spice from the barrel tingles pleasantly in the nose. The often mentioned fruit basket consists of ripe tropical fruits such as pineapple, lychee and grape. Everything looks very round and solid. Nothing is felt from the alcohol. After a good three quarters of an hour, the malt has changed. Now red berries, oak and a delicate hint of chocolate dominate the smell. After a good three quarters of an hour, the malt has changed. 90 points and still no detailed notes, is that possible? Yes! The Malt offers distinctive livet flavor paired with a neatly spicy start. It changes wonderfully over time and the more you take a sip. Interesting to discover. |

The finish is slightly dry at first, but after a hearty smack the fruit flavors spread out. Here it is finally the red berries and cherries that make the sherry barrel muscles play. All in all a long, if rather unspectacular finish. |

I do not know, in the smell of fantastic, in taste and reverberation, it is far from good. I expected more
What a great nose! Everything is beautifully interwoven. No alcohol noticeable. Unfortunately, the taste and finish cannot keep up with this extraordinary nose. Compared to the 18y, you notice the difference especially in the nose and the bitterness of the oak in the end. In the mouth I find the 18y almost more characterful. The price range fluctuates significantly with the 21y. A big bottle candidate? Not for prices from € 120, -. I find the 18y the better and more affordable option. But you can always enjoy this malt - you can't go wrong.

The malt shows up with a beautiful dark gold in the glass. Oily legs nestle very slowly along the edge of the glass. Right at the start, a beautiful nose blows me out of the snifter. I can't immediately divide the different smells apart. It is a successful composition of orange-heavy fruitiness with honey and spices, embedded in a creamy, buttery continence (can you speak of consistency in the nose?). A little journey back in time to Christmas. You don't feel the alcohol of 43% at all, just the aromas. Compared to the 18y, this nose is another increase for me - I already liked the 18 year old. The beautiful combination of orange, sherry influences, juicy, ripe red pome fruit such as pear and Christmas apples with icing is very nice. |

Wow! Is it gentle and soft in the mouth. Creamy and slightly sweet at the beginning. A light orange zest note with nutmeg and cinnamon. At the end there is bitterness, dark chocolate, but no more than 60% cocoa. |

The bitterness remains. The oak takes command. The cocoa content in the dark chocolate increases towards the end. In addition to the oak, the rest of the spiciness and the chanting of the fruit follow when swallowing. All in all, the finish is not as long as one might have wished for in an old malt. |
Tasty, intense, but not much further than the 18s. For much more expensive.
Way too much wood for my taste. Prefer the 18yo over this.
Classic, and very good, but not necessarily interesting, especially at this price.
The smell is really nice and makes you want more, but at least I was disappointed. I find the taste and finish to be average.

Glenlivet 21 is what I’d call a "safe bet" whisky. It’s incredibly smooth, well-matured, and easy to enjoy—but maybe too easy. It lacks that extra complexity or uniqueness that would make it truly memorable. A great whisky, but at this price, I’d expect a little more personality.
Notes from March 2nd, 2014: Nose: Rich with great range and depth. Mint, ripe pineapple, bakes apples and leather. Palate: Full but drier with a nutty sherry and oak. Has a Christmas feel. Dark chocolate. Finish: Long and smooth. Slight rancio with treacle and wood, apple spice. I found this one did well with a few drops of water.
Let's keep it short and simple: cherry-apricot-plum jam. The sweetness of the cherries, the fruitiness of the apricot and the flavor of the plum. All in all very pleasant and very well done. BUT: I personally like the Glenlivet 18 years much better. As is often the case, most whiskys reach their individual climax under the age of 20. In addition, only outstanding barrels stand out. It seems to be the same at Glenlivet. At the end there is a deduction for the miserable price-performance ratio. Dear people, this part is just absurdly overpriced.
Great good value whisky. Dry and honey sweet, rich. I must have got a good batch.
OK Gentlemen - We have a SERIOUS f'n problem here.... As you all know, the OB expressions are NOT the same from one release to the next (perhaps not even a release itself is completely consistent depending on how large the vat was). My recent experience with GL21 is that it is GARBAGE! I paid roughly $150US inc. ship and got a) one bottle that was undrinkable with off tastes and b) a replacement bottle that was, while semi-drinkable, extremely modest at best... I have had a bottle of Monkey Shoulder that has provided more satisfaction... How do we handle designating the specific releases for our Ratings - and, esp. noting what apparently is a MASSIVE DOWNHILL slide in GL offerings.
