Balvenie is not bad with peat, but Peat Week and Peated Cask is better.

A bit acrid smoke, sweet and tart. Balvenie should stick to their core line, this wasn’t there best expression

In the nose I find subtle smoke with sweet malt. Slight vanilla flavors and some licorice. The taste is reflected in the nose again, but it initially looks sweeter than thought. The malt and the vanilla squeeze through, followed by the peat and some alcohol. The Peated Balvenie looks slightly metallic. In the finish he is a bit bitter ... Conclusion: Balvenie does not have to hide in terms of Peat! Surely a few years would have been better for him ...

In my opinion Peat and Balvenie are an interesting combination, this time the peat isn't very well intermeshed with the Balvenie, the nose is to shy.Concerning price/performance ratio: 6/10

Additional strength helps,I like it better than the peat week. Initial nose + taste close to an Islay but peat does not pull through till the end and seems less integrated. All in all a competent malt, but who really needs a peated Balvenie with all the alternatives around?

Nice sweet and very peaty balvenie. I suppose it was sea peat, not highland as for Peat week. More like everyday dram

Long, sweet peat and bitter campfire smoke |
This was better than I expected. Lots of nice delicate oak on the palate, plenty of lovely pastry notes mixed with very clean smoke. I like the earthier, more oak-forward turn on the development. I wish it had a bit of a thicker texture, and, though it has decent length, the finish could have a bit more meat to it. Still, a very solid choice in a travel-retail market that’s becoming increasingly crowded with watered-down, generic expressions. Nose: Quite sweet and mildly smoky. Lots of nougat, chocolate covered toffee, various sugar-dusted pastries, and candied nuts. The smoke is soft and gentle, with black pepper and some dried herbs. Very sweet malted barley and caramel. The fruit is buried deep: vanilla-poached pears, nectarines, dried cranberries, and banana. Some fragrant beeswax and rose as well. Palate: Medium-light texture. Orchard fruit and pineapple up front, along with toffee and beeswax. Sweet, honeyed smoke on the development, as things turn slightly more savoury and oak-forward. The smoke is more intense here than on the nose. There’s soft oak and leather, slight clove, and nutty malted barley. Chocolate mint, tiramisu, and plenty of honey-sweetened English Breakfast tea towards the back. Finish: Still sweet, but smokier. Chocolatey smoke and soft oak. A bit of cola, a bit more cinnamon, marshmallow, and nutmeg. Campfire and cast iron. Distant ginger, mint, and dried herbs. Maple forest in autumn.

Medium long with vanilla and some smoke |
Slightly smoky in the nose. Medium-long aftertaste continues to flow into the throat. Soft taste. Honey.
I tasted this whisky blindly. Clearly malt on the nose and a certain sweetness. Sherry influences are recognizable and an aroma of wild honey. I also add a hint of blueberry. I feel a strength on the tongue, even a barrel strength that turns out to be 48.3% at the resolution, I would have guessed higher. Definitely spicy, a little hazelnut, a little raisin, above all I can feel wood, oak and a slight bitterness. The wood covers the smoke, which is barely noticeable to me. The finish leaves a persistent dry mouthfeel, long, strong and still woody and spicy. Nose: 22 Key: 23 Finish: 23 Total package: 21 = 89 points Conclusion: I love the Caribbean Cask at the age of 14. That Balvenie managed to peated with such force at the same age surprised me. I would have liked a little less wood and a little more smoke. Certainly not a whisky that you "dump" the whole evening. But always worth a drink to enjoy.
