The single malt a'bunadh has no age information. It is not chilled and filled in batches with their natural cask strength. The maturation takes place exclusively in Oloroso Sherry Butts.

Long and tart-sweet, reminiscent of exotic spices, dark chocolate and oak. |
nose: spicy, alcoholic on the brandy, hazelnuts, candied fruit on the orange with the well-cooked and dried zest, toasted, it's dry too. Stuffy: the fire of alcohol as a starter (think of the drop of water); the fruits less marked than in the older batches, the oloroso less strong than the PX, in short, fruits soaked in alcohol, on candied cherries in brandy, on cooked mandarin, praline hazelnuts and spices, Christmas with dark chocolate shavings and peppercorns the dry woodiness with bitterness. Final: long, intense despite the young age; always this warmth that turns at the bottom of the palate with candied fruits, dry oak and cocoa, the gateway to the world of whisky always.

I' am writing this review in response to the immature review and posting by SAXATPHONE who rated this whisky @ 60 points which is utterly ridiculous and irresponsible to honest hearted whisky seekers looking for accurate reviews by mutual whisky appreciators. I suggest if SAXATPHONE rates this whisky as a putrid spirit maybe he should stick to wine or beer and leave this quality spirit to men who appreciate the flavors!......Slainte!
Warm pecan pie with praline ice cream drizzled with warm honey, seasoned with bits of dehydrated dark cherries.
I call this the Naughty batch…. Because of the high abv of course. Haha! One of my preferred recent batches. I’m finding that A’bunadh no longer feels quite as heavily sherried as they used to, but they continue to make up for it in spicy Aberlour goodness. At $100 Cdn (£59), this continues to be the best bargain in malt in my locality.

Aberlour has been bottling its cask strength under the name A'Bunadh for 69 batches, and since batch 67 the single malt a'bunadh has also been a bit darker in a new packaging. This shows that the casks have been selected and matured well. The a'bunadh (Gaelic: the original) has no age information. It is not chilled and filled in batches with their natural cask strength. The maturation takes place exclusively in Oloroso Sherry Butts. Special: Successful batch series that is looking for your equal. Taste Intense start. Unusually creamy on the palate for the cask strength. Full of oranges, dark cherries, dried fruits, sherry, ginger, dark chocolate and oak aromas combine to form a seductive body. Long-lasting and intense finish. The soft, warming impression lingers in the mouth for a long time and continues to carry exotic spices, dark chocolate and oak until the end.

The bottle has been awake for more than half a year, and the smell is much gentler, but the alcohol is still a little bit. When I first opened the bottle, the smell was mainly banana. Now the fragrance of flowers and fruits is obvious. annoying. |

The classic cask strenght sherry bomb. A little rustic somehow but truly open to express the key characteristics of different sherry casks but in prevalence PX. Sweet, a high ABV that requires a little bit of water to enjoy it without burning your palate, a level of complexity (raisin, hazelnut, plum) in line with expectation. When a batch is a good one, like this one, it is a bottle to stock, becoming a must have in any sherry lovers cellar
An amazing and very intense Oloroso cask strength batch with deep layers opening in an intense beautiful character, full bodied, beautifully amber coloured. Discovering this glass is a pure celebration.
Batch 69, 61.2 ABV Tasted neat: Bold, oily, rich, viscous, extra crispy creme brûlée, dried fruits, caramel, subdued ethanol, the sherry is surprisingly subdued, long, long finish.
This was an unusual Aberlour A'bunadh in my view - for me it had very strong notes of banana and saccharine sweetness. Too much banana for my personal liking!
Nose is magnificent. Caramel, marzipan, vanilla, oak, praline. Taste: good complex, but not well balanced, the alcoholic overtone casts a shadow on the flavours. This is too strong for my opinion. It gets a lot better when you add water. The flavours open up and become softer and more balanced (however, it keeps its ragged edges, there is no smoothness). Taste: sherry, vanilla, oak, dried fruit, apricot and marzipan. It lingers for medium to long and leaves a medium sweet aftertaste. Would recommend but for people who like it very smooth.
