Modern, rather easy drinkable - not bad

When you are looking for an older, substantial single malt that isn't outrageously expensive, consider Glenfarclas 21. Intense fruitiness, green apples, gooseberries and hints of pineapple dominate the nose. Fresh herbs, heather honey and faint smoke of 'burned stuff' linger in the background, adding a pleasant complexity. The age of this malt shows in the taste: heavy cask influence with wood spices and tannins combines with fruits and vanilla, culminating in a lasting, nutty and slightly dry finish. The is wonderfully fruity, a lot of sherry, but also oak and vanilla. With that one knows again why I like Glenfarclas so much ...

This is a fresher, less fusty Glenfarclas [of old], with a bready citrusy complex. Furthermore, this one’s moreish consolidated sherry influence is noted. T: Lovely,… not too complex, just so with a relaxed freshness/[modern] youthfulness throughout,.. slightly metallic,… F: Though fresh to the last, nothing is overt, it’s all [again] ‘just so’ in a comfortable rounded/consolidated way. The relaxed freshness resides. C: Pleasing easy drinker which doth’s one’s hat to the past & present rather well. Much like the GlenMo but for different reasons, I’d recommend this to beginners and enthusiasts alike. Incredibly, it’s just €78 on the mainland! Lucky Europeans.

Nose:- Trademark rich dried fruits and peels of citrus freshness. Very pleasing. Balance with sweet dates, marzipan and tinge of roots and dried leaf earthiness. Zing of tobacco. Palate:- Great depth and full. Well rounded and silky, sweet barley and nutmeg freshness. Elegant and standing tall. Finish:- Ultra smooth and velvet, long finish. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

dark fruity sherry notes in this one. Nice.

looks ripe but quite boring, nothing special, for the 2016 now and then required 57 € ok, but for 21 years simply unspectacular - better Glenfarclas are characterized by more acidity and usually more, more intense orange notes or berry notes - I drink already forever at the bottle - it will not be empty.

light amber / dark rich gold - a good single malt, fits into the somewhat disappointing one Series of older Glenfarclas bottlings from the standard series - Sherry unfortunately only very subtly recognizable - at originally about 70 € a good price for a 21 year old Single malt, currently about 120€ too expensive for the quality

A decent aroma, the age is felt, there is depth and complexity, although in general it was not as bright and saturated as expected, the taste at the beginning was giving hope, but, alas, could not reach the fragrance by sliding down to the monotonous lacquer-wood dominant. The result is weak, unbalanced and uninteresting for such years.

A big and firm body.

Very creamy nose, almost syrupy, spicy honey, conifers, with a hint of anise. Red fruits, of course, but more on jam, even syrup, than natural. Currants, blackcurrants, cranberries. The mouth is still as creamy, cherry tart, or is it raspberry? Rather both. The spices rise, paprika, saffron, nutmeg, a pinch of cloves and pepper. The finish is up to par, woody, on cereals and heather, long enough, dry earth, chestnuts. Goo. Very good, ripe whisky framed with a high degree of fruitiness. Perfect both drunk solo and with a little water. Strong sherry, raisins and chocolate make it quite an outstanding drink for little money. For me, one of the best whiskys, and additionally a cigarette smoke, which adds an additional aftertaste of well-baked yeast dough along with the other flavors. Pride!!!

A dark amber-gold, full sweet vanilla delicately smoked with a rich and long lasting finish. Glenfarclas 21yo is delicious stuff, and a bargain at this price.

Overall, a little more pleasing and sweeter than the 25-year-old, which brings even more oaky spice and light acidity. The 21-year-old is in complete harmony. It would be the crowning glory if he had 46%, like the 15-year-old sister bottle.

Clear difference compared to 15YO, here the intensity is replaced by a flavor that is dominated by sweetness, feels less sherry, but there`s more vanilla and hints of yellow fruit.

The nose is wonderfully fruity. The taste of the Glenfarclas flattens off a bit, there are hardly any fruit notes left. The taste and the finish is dominated by a spicy and sulfur oak note. Unlike the 25-year-old Glenfarclas is 21 years old sherrylastiger. A rock solid standard.

The Glenfarclas 21 year old is an intense well developed whisky. Full bodied with big fruit and sherry flavours leaving a pleasing hint of sweetness on the finish. ************ Colour: Dark amber-gold. Definitely drinkable. But you can't tell the 21 years are there. While the price is in keeping with its actual age, it's objectively quite excessive.

S 6 A thick, enjoyable sherry dram with a unique layered spice experience. However, lacking a bit of complexity for whisky in such an age. N 25 - Expressive semi-sweet sherry aroma (raisin, juicy fruit) - Barley - Honey hiding behind the sherry sweetness P 24 - Intense barley at first - Then dried fruit sweetness - Peppery spice sparked momentarily, with warm winter spice remaining at last - Creamy mouthfeel F 22 - Mid-short, dry finish - Touch of orange peel - Malted barley

Considered by the PLV, my best from Glenfarclas. The difference to the 15: the 21 is more sweet and less sherry dominates. But more vanilla and therefore it has the better character of a distillery. Personal impression !

A complex dram, need another go at it and add couple drops of water to let open up a bit.

For 21 years you get very little here. Even if the price is interesting, there is still a lot of quality on the track here. Nevertheless, the low price must be rewarded. The overall impression of this whisky is rather flat, unspectacular and almost meaningless. The flavors are indicated at best - 20.05.2017

n: light sherry nose with cereals and nuts. some vanilla, pastry, a little butter shining through. the oak is rather mild but becomes louder after a while. the fruity side is ruled by apple skins and maybe a few oranges. t:  very much on the cereals, bread, pastry. malt candies and toffee. rather dry but pleasantly so. f:  long, a bit dull on wet tea leaves as often with glenfarclas ( as far as I´m concerned) comments: pleasant dram but nothing I would have to run after. 85/100

Sampled this in a line up of Glenfarclas 13 (SMWS bourbon cask), 10, 12, 21, 25, 40, and the 105. One of the better ones. I preferred it over the 25.

It has a relatively watery viscosity and its bouquet is relatively intense. I have aromas of nuts, dried fruit, creme brulee, apricots, raisin syrup, chocolate and orange. Moderately complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is very well integrated and it has a very light body.

sssssoooooooooooo boring, better to get the 12 or the 15 instead and save yourself some hard earned cash because this is definitely not worth the price and very very disappointing as a 21 year old

In my opinion a relatively fresh citrus fruited presentation but a lack of depth due to x-filled sherry casks. Not much sherry going on here in the finish. Quite a simple presentation concerning the sherry part for a 21-year old whisky. Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10

Sweet, rich, perfectly balanced. The smoothest middle aged, sherry matured whisky what i had so far. A bit too round for me - however the perfect "Lady Whisky" (according the feedback from the Whisky Live Shanghai 2012).

Whisky very nice for the aperitif

Tasting at the Xth Tasting BR, then rejoicing again at home. Expectations were much greater after Glenfarclas 12 and 15yo. Those younger and much cheaper whiskys addressed me a lot more. At home, I placed it in a comparative test with King Ronert II Deluxe and Ballanines 12yo, and Glenfarclas 12yo stable single malt. The smell was cheaper (King Robert II), the other two were better. But to make the twenty-one not worthless, the bland blend had a certain hippolytheality, and G21 added some kind of smooth elegance. However, the result is rather miserable due to the price. Due to age and price, great disappointment for me.

Wonderful nose! A higher alcohol content would raise this malt to a different level - more percents, more points; Nevertheless, a pleasant, beautiful single malt. The longer the malt is open, the more he opens up and becomes "better" ...

Tasted blind, thought this must be something young

Soft and fruity nose, with a drop of water bringing out even more fruit and vanilla. Sherry is present but doesn`t dominate. Full and smooth on the palate, with only a slightly over-dry finish bringing it down from being a top level sherried speyside malt. Excellent value for money...but I really wish they would bottle it at 46% like the 15yo.

After 15-20 minutes the aroma opens up, getting much richer, more complex even. Splendid.

Original Rating 2018: Numbers only - 90 points ================================ May 2022 Glenfarclas 21 year old SMSW 43%. 30ml sample at home May 2022. A nice natural-looking yellow. Aroma is pear, green apple, some lemongrass and pale biscuits. Refill casks, a bit ‘furry’ and musty. A fight between the fresh fruity vibes and the musty clay-like ones. Body is moderately oily. Taste is salty on impact, some russet apple peel and pear peel, salted crackers, becoming bitter and astringent, mixed pepper and chilli. Can’t detect any European oak character here at all. Not the experience I feel like I’ve had in the past with Glenfarclas 21 (either may palate has changed or there's batch variation). It’s fine but the cask quality just doesn’t seem to be where you’d expect it to be. Nevertheless I’m one of those weirdos who can enjoy a bitter musty refill cask vibe so I still find this enjoyable enough. 3.475/83 ================================ SEP 2022 Glenfarclas Aged 21 Years, HSMSW, 43%. 50ML miniature Sep 2022. Very dark golden. Aroma had candyfloss, simultaneously fruity and vegetal, fruit cake but some spinach ... or maybe its more that ‘old style spirit’ cheese rind note I get from whiskies distilled a couple of decades ago. Body is watery. Taste is watery, underpowered, faintest fruit n barley squash, lightest spiciness, papery oak. Pretty underwhelming and light, watery. Building peppery spice. Not much character coming through. Hmm. Perhaps it should have been bottled at a higher abv. Pretty underwhelming up front but grew on me. Always pretty boring though. 3.45/82

A rock solid malt; However, I miss something "own", especially when I think that this Glenfarclas is 21 years old.

In my humble apinnion, this miss a lot of vask influens and abv. Glenfarclas use the cask 4 times and that van you notes on r This one. I mixed the 21 andre 105 andre it became stunning 250ml of 105 andre 100ml og the 21 let it married in the bottle 4 weeks then have 1 glass and wait 2 moren weeks and it became amazing. On the nosse: Full pluss,chili,oak,marsipan,oransj taste: reel power kick off plums and oak,chili,pepper,oak spises finish: Long lasting plums and spisyness full bodied Wold say 89poins
