Not much needs to be said about the colour. That speaks for itself. A nice golden brown. The nose is very aromatic. Not overly sherry-heavy, not overly strong at his percentages, that leaves space for the wood, maybe looks a bit young. A slight sweetness over the glass no missing notes, very nice! The start is milder than expected. But it shines aromatically. Nice barrel notes here too, delicate sherry, nothing exaggerated. Vanilla joins there is a lot to discover. Almost like brandy, grapes, dark chocolate. It's neither sweet nor spicy rather a bit bitter, definitely very tasty and aromatic. I remember Batch 10 very well. Maybe the one point is below 88 instead of 89 points back then. I'll definitely get another bottle for later...

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2024/11/01/brighton-whisky-club-angels-share/ N: We follow sherry with [PX & oloroso] sherry [as credited], though I believe there is ex-bourbon maturation underlying. This is rich and far more elegant than the previous 9-year-old and ready to go straight out of the box. T: Rich indeed, strong, and weighty, we are seeing excellent cask blending, again, bourbon underlying to my mind like the revival-ed 15yo Revival [WLP]. Add just a dash of water for a less constrained delivery, though doing so exposes this one’s youth and the cask-forward approach. F: Sweet [enough], creamy, and tasty, you can see this as winter dram and not just for Christmas, but those casks leave a heavy, even cloying imprint. C: The overall favourite on the night, simply for its joyous immediacy, but let’s not get too carried away. Like many whiskies that are immediately available and desirable, we can just as quickly tire of them.

Excellent saturation and depth in taste, cool astringency. On the palate, sherry notes are not felt strongly. 21 22 22 21
Direct comparison with a 2022 bottling of the GlenDronach 15 Revival (WB223464) - the CS narrowly emerges as the winner here. Four drops of water in a 2 cl sample.

Head to Head with the current Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch 10 (ID 234302). Both distilleries have absolute benchmarks in their program with their 21 year old. Both distilleries now often torment lovers with very tartaric modern whiskys that disappoint fans. This Glendronach CS is once again a small ray of hope, but the demands have also dropped over the years. The Glendronach clearly wins today. The Glengoyne (between 85 and 86 points) is rather weak, with too much tartaric acid and too much strawberry toffee. The Glendronach has more width, a nice sweetness reminiscent of the Glendronach 12. Finally a solid Glendronach CS again. It lacks depth and complexity compared to the first batches, but I find it less acidic and less flat than the last few batches. Water makes both whiskys better, but works even a little bit better with the Glendronach.

87.5 The nose is somewhat reminiscent of the Glendronach 12. A lush sweetness in the foreground, a few good casks were also used here. More of a modern sherry malt, but with a few old school approaches in the background. The barrels were better here. More plum compared to the Glengoyne, basic caramel notes, even some arcade quality leather and aged wood. |

87.5 I like it better here than the Glengoyne. The Glendronach appears more mature and tolerates water better. The palate starts off much softer than the Glengoyne. Here again a lot of lush sweetness, dark fruit gums and relatively little ripe oak. At the back it gets a little sharper and the acidity is indicated. The strawberries are a bit more ripe compared to the Glengoyne and there is even some leather saying hello here at the beginning. This one doesn't inspire enthusiasm as well, but it's still a small upgrade from the previous batches and a solid CS by today's standards. With 10 to 20 years of bottle maturation, this one could become a gem. |

87.5 The mouthfeel is creamy sweet, a little oily, but then the tartaric acid takes over more at the end. That's still better than the Glengoyne, but also a bit far from enjoyable, because this one is also a bit too spicy and too easy on the palate. Tolerates water well and makes it softer here, luckily not more acidic. |
Still very tasty and good. But. It is slightly less than the batch 11
Glendronach is the story of a lost love and that makes it difficult to evaluate the whiskys objectively. Ok, anyway I'll give Glendronach another try. Batch 12 from Cask Strength, no age, but at least the clear statement that it was not colored and not chill-filtered. Matured in PX and Oloroso, strong color, price between just under 80 and over 90 € for a company whisky without age. glen-efze.de
