Quick hit review. Distilled in Czechoslovakia in 1989, this is an obscure malt that I had to try. Oak-driven, grassy and simply 'odd', the nose features apple peel, strawberry powder and hints of peach. A plastic or synthetic note creeps in that is hard to describe. More apples and pears kick off the palate, while age and ABV pull in opposite directions. It is a bit like chewing on old wood, but the low strength softens the blow. Mild citrus, nuts and hints of marzipan mark the short and resinous finish. A weirdo for sure, but I enjoy oddballs like this. RATING: 2.5/5.0 stars ≙ 74 pts → SUBPAR

[November, 2014] I had this dram during a "world whiskies" tasting at Bonn.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 50. My notes state an extreme bitterness due to heavy tannins with almost no other aromas or flavours to detect. I was not abe to swallow it and used the spittoon.
Golden color. Quite oily structure.

23rd June 2016 is the date of.,,, Malt ’n’ Copper’s European referendram! We begin in France WB and finish in Scotland WB N: Pot-still whisky don’t you know! Smells unusual, curious. weird! I’ll start with the more obvious stuff: light, honeyed vanilla yet its vegetal too, soft vegetal with a sour note. It’s grand age doesn’t greatly show, its a positively mild oak experience. Then theres white, fleshy apples, plasticy candy [the stuff cinemas likes to sell], rose-hip, ginger with l'eau de rose soap, goats cheese and egg whites! - that’s it! Super soft - all of it. T: Tastes just like it smells with the goats cheese and egg whites intact - that’s the age talking I’m sure. Unusual oak character with a very soft, savoury, salty, herbal, sugar-water development - i mean sugar cane, so it’s actually rum like. Rum casks, anyone? F: Astonishingly it grows a tad with a little pepperiness. Maybe thats why they dropped the abv so low,.. or is this cask strength? Who actually knows?. Murky underworld notes - i feel like I’m licking the insides of a copper still. Also i’m getting dry, toasted heathers, a hint of jam, more herbal ‘magic’ [more schooling needed for me as ever], dry-toasted vanilla pods and that pot-still [Irish] character. Concludes with a waxy, malty mouthfeel and a surprisingly long and emanating finish despite the dryness. C: Never tried anything quite like it. Super soft with the low abv letting it down some considering the softness of the casks, but the character and form is never lacking, Like Ralfy, I’m a fan. Let’s pop to Sweden WB. Scores a C+
Blind tasting, so pretty accurate to score 76p if comparing to whiskybase.

Wow, who would have thought? This is actually quite good. Would this be the same spirit that simply matured for two more years. A bit hard to believe. But why not? Nice!

I think the story is great and it is a pleasant dram, but i've had a lot better whisky's than this one. It's smooth and ellegant but there isn't much dept, not sure what realy happened in that cask in those 23 years but it wasn't much. On the other hand; the price is good, not overpriced or so.

Not catastrophic, rather easy to drink, but a little tampered with.
My first Czech Single Malt whisky. And not a bad one to start with! Raspberry and Strawberry jam accompanied by a green leafy component. Some cereals and banana puree are joining the party on the finish. Weird, different, interesting, but very good! Not super complex, a little bit too thin in the mouthfeel, but still hit my nerve in some way. I do not understand the overall low ratings. There are simply too many haters nowadays...

I'm from Czech Republic also this Whisky so maybe i will not be very objective, but i like this one. Good price, good age, good taste.
A solid whisky with a low complexity but an exceptionally floral-sweet aroma. However, the 23-year aging is not noticeable to him, but the distillate is still too aggressive.

Not bad. The mouth-feel was a little watery, but everything else about it was enjoyable. I would definitely buy another bottle in the future.
This whisky has a nice story behind it, but it's by far not as complex as you might expect from a 23yo; it's surprisingly crisp and fresh. Yet it's not my cup of tea. Tasted 17/02/2016.
Definitely unusual, extraordinary whisky. I was attracted by the cream flavor and the odor. Overall, however, it is rather average.

This Hammer Head is an interesting whisky, well built, but, it must be said, a bit boring. The aromas provide a fairly instantaneous pleasure, but not long lasting. To discover all the same, a Czech whisky, it does not run the streets!
good, but nothing I will remebrer
Blind, I thought he was an 8 year old whisky. Ok, the subtractive ripening worked wonderfully, but there was little to nothing on the barrel. So little oak flavor I had rarely in a malt.
Hammer Head 1989 Tasted 2014-07-20 @ WhiskyInteam Spaden Aroma of raisins, no prominent note in the taste, yet strong and medium-long finish, lower average 59
