Quick hit review. The selection of bourbon and rye in Europe is rather limited, but WhistlePig is one of your best options. On the nose, treacle, aniseed and wood polish give way to vanilla powder, cinnamon and some flowery notes. Sweet and peppery in the arrival, the taste develops with brown sugar, sage and a touch of bubble gum. Rock candy, mint and oak spices linger in the mildly dry finish. A pretty decent rye that is actually worth the money! RATING: 3.7/5.0 stars ≙ 85 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE [+]
Canadian whiskey? Pft... Ever tried WhistlePig?

Brown sugar sweet. Caramel. Some vanilla notes, but the more spicy notes of rye is dominant. Is there anything called furniture balm? Some kind of noble wood polish without the chemical or solvent note. Maybe it's nut oils? Water does what water often does, it dulls it down, makes it more generic and less interesting. |

Quite spicy for 50% Rye, nuts, coffee. Dry and slightly bitter wood. A drop of water calms the spice, but it also brings the wood more forward. |

Caramel sweetness. Oak shavings. And that pure wood taste is so persistent in the mouth I had to knock my head to check if I had turned Pinocchio. Having an ear infection causing an internal echo didn't help... |
Really enjoyed this WhistlePig tasting with Whiskey4All!

Another fantastic Rye from WhistlePig, it's not as good as the 11 year old but it's pretty damn close. Looking forward to tasting the 12 sample from Peatbogger and I thank him dearly for this bottle.

That unmistakable Rye nose and like Bourbon some are better than others, this is a great one. It's kind to the senses, dry roasted peanuts, flower shop with a fresh delivery. Gentle spice and peatbogger mentioned polish, he's right but this is high end French polish for high end furniture. Banana skin when it is green and unripe. Apple and pear boiled sweets. |

First off, for 50% this is dare I say, smooth as a baby's backside. It's Rye so there is lots of spice but it's gentle and not too overpowering, the balance is perfect. All bran cereal in a glass and again those floral notes. I'm probably making this sound quite sweet but it's not. Everything I've mentioned is working together like cogs in a clock and it's ticking away nicely. |

The finish is long and the spice tingles the back of the nose. Plus some ryes leave a dry finish, this doesn't, the only thing dry about it is the taste of the dry fruit. A puch of cinnamon on the death. |
Even though I don't really like grassy flavors like Noah's Mill, I thoroughly enjoyed this rye whiskey. The taste, like an unripe banana, is really attractive.

The balance of scent is good. The scent is very satisfying without any buzz. - The sweet scent of caramel is felt first. - The refreshing feeling of mint also comes with it. - Scent like a mixture of vanilla and unripe banana - Fruity flavor that seems to have reduced the citrus of apples and boosted the sweet flavor of apple juice. - The fragrant smell of bread made from wheat flour - The refreshing sweetness of pears - The brightness of flowers mixed with the sweetness of honey - Various herb and spice scents such as clove, cinnamon, and basil :N Summary - Typical rye whiskey. The smell of grass is not strong so it is not burdensome. |

There is quite a bit of buzz from alcohol. Like wasabi, it has a tingling sensation that rises up the nose and is slightly spicy. - It has a very strong bubble gum-like scent, like unripe banana. - Cool, water-like feeling in the stomach - Grassy taste reminiscent of celery - A combination of various mints and cloves - The savory taste of freshly baked rye bread mixed with a bit of sourness. - Slight cinnamon-like taste. :P Summary - Well-made rye whiskey. The buzz is a bit disappointing. |

The finish is medium length. It finishes dry. - I can still feel the harmony of mint. - The woody taste of oak lingers on the tongue and makes it feel dry. - A grassy scent remains, similar to that felt after weeding in the summer. - The sweetness of caramel prevents the grassy flavor from being emphasized too much. : F Summary - Caramel added to the scent of mass weeding around public roads in the summer |
Alcohol: 50% Aroma: Dill pickle, furniture polish, vanilla, creamy wood, cedar, chocolate, and gently cloves. (84 b) Taste: The taste well reflects the impression of the aroma. Creamy wood, vanilla, it's a pity that it gets a little bitter in the end. (82 b) Points: 83 Summary: Quite a forgettable piece, moreover, given the price, it is a big disappointment.

2023.12.15 Unknown opened bottle date, Rotten Glasses - Bottle condition: Almost at the end of the bottle - Tasting condition: Tasting class, ordinary condition - Previous drinking: Highland park 12y
Smell: medium to full bouquet, brown sugar, including a slight menthol note, fine nuttiness, great balance, caramel, the spicy rye notes are perfectly integrated under these sweet tones, with a little ventilation dtl. Cigar box and the drawer of the old oak secretary, which was opened again for the first time in several years ... Taste: What a miracle - clear on the spicy side, and even the 50% pushes quite a present, German. Bitter tones on the palate, dark roasted walnuts, oak, medium-sized. Reverberation, again on the bitter side Color: burnished gold, medium WR, clear Conclusion: In the nose it is still "sweetly pretended to be", the 10er strikes all the more spicy on the palate - and it is precisely these two faces that make it exciting in the glass ...
This is the first rye whiskey I have tried. I really liked this release, rich, tasty, complex, with good strength. 22 21.5 21 21.5

Shiny orange-butterscotch colour. Initially a straightforward vanilla/caramel medium strength nose that opens up on soft fruity (orange peel, abricot), tones with aeration. Then a mix of straw, fudge and toasty aroma's follow. In the mouth, it's obvious it is a 100 proof, but there is so much subtle flavours in all that power. Loads of pepper and caramel, a hint of saffron, mixed with a minty layer. The wood is also clearly present, providing for a somewhat drier mouthfeel but it is well balanced, not overpowering. On the contrary, it gives "importance" to the whiskey. A great Rye, complex, with a precision balance. Overall generous nose and mouth. A real sipping pleasure.
