В аромате доминирует фирменный набор Waterford — солод, нуга, ирис, карамель — с земляными, лиственно-лесными и молодыми дубовыми оттенками, поверх которых проступают жёлтое яблоко, айва, цитрус, ваниль и лёгкие цветочные и пряные ноты (мускатный орех, перец, майоран). Вкус маслянистый и сливочный, мягкий, но с ощутимым теплом: яблоки в шоколаде, пралине, кофейные зёрна, марципан, карамель, солодовые тона, цитрус и белый перец; сладость нередко сильнее ожидаемой. Послевкусие средней длины (что многих удивляет при такой плотности) — шоколад, нуга, солод, злаки, перец, какао, солёные и цитрусовые отголоски. Опытные ревьюеры сходятся плотно вокруг 83–87, хваля баланс, скрытый спирт и «структурность» солода, и отмечая молодость как терпимую при удачной работе дуба; один видит в нём скорее сырьё для купажа, чем самостоятельный солод, другой — солёно-морской и менее пряный профиль по сравнению с соседними фермами. Остальные оценки заметно разбросаннее: от восторженных 94 и 89 за фруктовость и сложность до резкой критики за спиртуозность, вяжущую древесную горечь и незрелость (78, 65 и одиночные 12 за «неприятный спирт, убивающий вкус»). Расхождение упирается в переносимость молодости и высокого градуса: там, где опытные видят многослойность за свой возраст, часть новичков ощущает резкость и недошлифованность.

Another chocolaty Waterford. An explicit comparison tasting eye-to-eye with the Hook Head 1.1 is still pending, but since I only recently had it in the glass, I can already see that there are clear differences in flavor here, as the Lakefield emphasizes its emphasis on the chocolate side (ha, ha), while the Hook Head has more maritime echoes and leaves the chocolate notes in the background. Exciting.
Нос 88 Like its colleagues, the Lakefield 1.1 also has the typical Waterford aroma quartet: malt, nougat, toffee, caramel. Present in a very pronounced form, so that initially few other aromas find their way into the nose. It looks earthy and loamy, with dry deciduous forest and fresh shavings from young oak. Light fruity aromas of yellow apple, along with some kiwi and banana. Now opens slowly but surely and steadily, becomes spicier and now delivers marjoram, savory, freshly grated nutmeg and pepper. But it still has a thick layer of nougat chocolate as a base.
Вкус 87 Strikes the tongue powerfully and smoothly, but at the same time is mild and gentle, so that its power is only noticeable in the form of heat. Pieces of apples wrapped in chocolate, nougat pralines, warm caramel mass, coffee beans, marzipan bread - if you could taste the color, the result would be a deep, dark brown. Spice is there, but unlike in the nose, it cannot be defined more precisely.
Финиш 87 Medium length (that amazes me again and again), still with lots of chocolate and nougat, with sugar beet syrup, malt, some cereals, warm applesauce flavored with cloves and cinnamon.

N: This floral fruity sweeter nutty [Blair Athol-esque] number is a fun/easy reader. Furthermore, some barrel charring suggests a distant [Caol Ila-esque] phenolic quality. T: Far less talkative than the nose, and in comparison to the Grattansbrook, this Lakefield is saltier and < spicy. F: Remains fairly guarded to the last. C: This one didn’t grab me as a single malt in its own right, but from a blender’s perspective, I can imagine this being a fabulous structural malt.

1687) Waterford, 2017/2021, 3YO, Single Farm Origin, Lakefield 1.1, F039E01-01 By the philosophy and style, a Bruichladdich No.2 in Ireland. Nice official webpage that well maneuver with videos from various farms featuring the growers, and fills with information to satisfied the geeky. You can even listen to the audio recording of the ambience sounds surrounded the barley field too!! Win liao. A vat of 78 casks consists of 46% First Fill US from W.Turkey, Seagram and H.Hill, 23% of VO US, 15% of Margaux and 16% of Port and Marsala, all barrels and barriques with a couple of port pipes.

A young but versatile whiskey. It's quite well-behaved with some traces of youth obviously present. This doesn't matter that much when the support of wood is good: neither too much nor not enough. If you don't know to make your way through the Waterford releases, this is maybe not the most typical but a fairly good one.
Нос 82 Toffee, creme brulee, shortbread, vanilla, apple pie and honeyed cereal bar. It's only a bit earthy (cocoa powder), unlike its siblings which are more expressive into this direction. Instead, there is a citric note and some red fruit.
Вкус 83 Medium-bodied, rather oily and well-behaved. It's maltier now, on barley corns in burlap, hay, bread. The fruit is more towards pear drop, lemon curd, and strawberry. There is some toffee note, but less present, just as the vanilla note.
Финиш 83 Rather lean, medium length. It's a bit more citric than on the palate. There is a fair portion of pepper and cocoa, wood, malt and a hint of dark forest fruit.

Young whiskey, but well-balanced. Lots of sweetness, vanilla fruitiness and nice touches of a yeast cake make it a remarkable drink. Alcohol perfectly hidden. A small disadvantage is the high price of around € 75, which may be a bit deterrent.

SMELL warm pudding and freshly baked bread combine with red apple, milk chocolate, and dried flowers. Then the sweetness of caramel and cedarwood. TASTE fine clove, vanilla, pepper, bread and malt, shortbread biscuits. Then there are wonderful fruit notes such as honeydew melon and pear.

Takes water well - in fact, I prefer it diluted almost to 40% ABV. That way the finish lasts forever (the website reads: finish? Doesn’t!). Surprisingly complex for a whiskey that’s not even 4 years old. Maybe not for beginners, but I like it a lot!

Impetuous and harsh, but surprisingly strong behind the fresh nose, it has a medium-long finish. The alcohol is present and too much in the foreground for my taste. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite meet my personal taste today.

A vegetable nose, with rhubarb, citrus, forest floor, grass, wood and farm stables, followed by stone fruits and soft vanilla. The nose promises and amazing whiskey. The taste is much softer than expected and not as bitter and oily as some of the other Waterfords, with again stone fruits, vanilla and soft spices. The finish is slightly weak though.

The youth is immediately noticeable on the nose: very light fruits, gooseberries, unripe apples, some banana and unripe peach. Behind it lies a light, dusty note of malt. as well as a filigree, floral note. Immediately sour in the mouth, then a sweet spice slowly builds up. In the finish, a note of whole milk chocolate spreads through which sour citrus notes and gooseberries sparkle. Every now and then a slight salt note is added. In the end, there remains a dry, immature association with immature peach skin. Length: 5/10 All in all an interesting experiment and a multi-layered dram for its age, but it still seems a bit unpolished. Grade: 2

First off, gorgeous bottle and quite a curious thing to have a whiskey be terroir-based.
Нос 82 A bit chemical. Not at all fruity or smokey. More like treesap, dried wood and kindling. A hint of eucalyptus and mint.
Вкус 81 A bit bitter, umami and salty at first; then stronger and more complex; more wood and a bit of wintery spices, like hints of cinnamon.
Финиш 79 A bit sweeter and fruitier than I expected; salt like in the first few seconds the dram hits your tongue. A wisp of smoke right at the beginning.
