Had read and heard a lot about this whisky, but sniffing on it made me actually think it couldn't be that bad. Some apple sirup, linoleum, curry. Not recognizable as whisky, but not too horrific. But then the first nip... completely different, thin, dark, coal, like cleaning up you BBQ and drink the wastewater afterwards. In the finish the same, and where you would hope for a short finish for once, you get a long one. But: a great experience, glad to have had the opportunity to taste this one.

Apple sirup, linoleum at first. Then some whiffs of vomit come through. More linoleum. Then spices, curry. No alcohol noticeable at all at first, later on some more. |

Thin, watery, tar, coaled water. Oh my, this is bad, disgusting. Linoleum, some alcohol far away. Thinner, chemical waste. Linoleum takes over now, as does the alcohol some more. It makes it just a little less horrible as the first nips. |

Bitter now, coal, dark, disgusting. Drying mouthfeel. Chemical, thinner, linoleum. Too long finish unfortunately. Laurel drop. Like a bad medicine against coughing or something. Bitterness remains for long time. |
This bottling is some biohazard waste, as deadly as chemical warfare attacks. The stench arising from the liquid is horrid and attacks in a concentrated gaseous cloud. I had a taste of it again (18/7/2020) to view my thoughts in a more open manner. However, I just cannot view it in any better way. Still atrocious. Certainly deserves the place of being the top 10 whisky in the world, from the bottom. A whisky which I would never give to my worst enemies as it's an overkill to do so.

Smells like guinness stout from the start, not the usual one we know of and enjoy but a rather foul smelling one. Its like a stout that has gone bad for days after being left out in the open. The sourness is so sharp and just kills any attempt to properly nose it. It is both extremely sherried and floral - here's why, dead flowers left to rot for days while tens of sherry nukes dropped onto that flower stench. Let's be serious for a moment...I am able to pick up hints of sour plums, ripen pu erh tea, fermented shrimp paste, sweaty socks and a whole bunch of medicinal plants. Marmite and fermented soybeans like natto. Smell of rotting fish is in the air, like I said its a hazard to the ecosystem. |

Unpleasant bitterness of burnt sugar, tires burning, burnt plastic, sherry everywhere but artificial of course. E150 laden wreck of a mess. NO FRUITS, NO fragrant herbs, NO citrus!!! Wet paper in the sun, damp clothes, cinnamon powder, lots of sour cream and spoiled milk. Very very bitter towards the end like bile or stomach acid. |

Medium in finish with a disgusting sensation that stays throughout the mouth. Vinegar gone bad, super sour and bitter than just makes me speechless beyond belief at how atrocious this whisky was made by Mannochmore. Use plenty of water to gargle out this gunk and make sure to brush your teeth after. Don't forget the listerine. As for the glass, soak it in water and antibacterial soap, wash thoroughly after. Sanitize the area and make sure the liquid doesnt stain any surfaces. Use air freshener cause you will need it!!!! |

Wow, that's really horrible. The nose is still alright, but the others ...

a classic famous for its notes and texture: on the nose, nice, very marked by caramel, oily nuts and ashes, after it is singular: caramel cooked, licorice, wood chips, a little toasted or grilled and it remains under the tongue, the Final is simple but you must actually wash the glass with plenty of water.

Scores for initiative but not for the whisky lover.
It gets better (or less evil) when letting it rest in your glass for more than an hour. Quite an experience to taste this whisky.
The nose is ok. But in the mouth it's really unpleasant. Note that the caramel tint completely the glass and must be washed a good dozen times after drinking this whisky. Plan a good decision.

In the mouth, this is where the dram begins ... it's bland. Water. Perfume, soap, tire. Only pleasure. |

Final on the perfume and .... we do not care we want to spit. |
Ahh, the legendary Loch Dhu. Let us have a moment of silence before diving in, in the memory of all the poor people who went there before us. ... There. Now, as an English policeman might say, what's all this then? Well, it seems to be a bad Mannochmore, further adulterated by incomprehensible amounts of spirit caramel. In a sense it's a disappointment, that it's very obvious what went wrong here, and instead of entertaining you with epic tales of soap, hair lotion, or methanol, I can only sigh and say it's bad indeed, and then move on. This is so far the lowest score I have given on this site, but thanks to a shady bottle of some kind of booze called Hong Thong brought by a friend from the far east, it's by no means even near the worst alcohol I've tasted. While Loch Dhu is bad enough to not want any more after the first sip, Hong Thong (5 pts.) made me spit out immediately, because the initial taste already made me concerned that just holding it on my tongue might be hazardous to my health, so there are always worse things on the market if you just look around... Thanks to member GIORGOS for the sample!
Initially it has an acceptable nose, but after a sip, everything is ruined. It does not taste like whisky, but some ultra bitter Chinese herbal soup, with extremely unpleasant finish. Furthermore, it leaves brownish stain on your glass, like coffee! I've tried many other very dark sherried malts but nothing came close to this. It just seems the color was artificially added to the whisky. Thanks DarrenHJA for this educational malt.

My own assessment is not quite as brutal, but simply because I find so cultish following description of "Scotch Noob": A 30 years in the cellar mounted bottle Cynar is 100 times better than this whisky. Overripe bananas, black cherries, petroleum, burnt sugar, soy sauce and rotting fruit peel. It smells like a burnt Bins, next to the rotting fruit is burnt plastic and rubber tires out. At the end of licorice remains on the palate that does not go away even after 2 bottles of beer. 16/100 points. Well, for me with cola and ice blended drink a more fun and definitely a legend.
Blindtasting during WFNN 2015 VIP session
This is more a cult thing than a drink, not my cup of "dry sherry" tea
simply aweful. hardly whisky

A marketing experiment of the early 2000s. Do people prefer a vodka-like whisky or a dark, liqueur-like sweet whisky? Mustajärvi won and was on the market for a while before its production was stopped. The color of the whisky comes from sherry intended for coloring, paxarette, the use of which is no longer allowed in whisky production, and burnt sugar, E150a, a sugar colorant, the use of which is allowed in whisky production and also very common.
I have seen the bottom of the pit, had a near death experience, and... it was not good. But unique, which should count for something, right?! Extreme, has to be experienced. An FU to all those who claim E150a makes is a tasteless substance. XD
In terms of aroma and taste, it seems to have transcended the category of whisky.

Let`s be fair: The nose is not that much disgusting. Starting on toffee, it unfolds on burnt wood. And nothing much else. The problem is that after nosing it, you must drink it. More than liquorice, I find it closer to ink. Moreover, this is very weak. Overdiluted burnt wood and ashes. Really very, very weak. I would have liked it to be full of character, but it's closer to intersideral void.

I’m sorry my notes couldn’t be more detailed, but I refuse to take a third sip. This was beyond gross. That nose lulls you into a false sense of security, but then… So bitter. Like eating an ashtray filled with dead fish and ear medicine. I’m still tasting it after rinsing repeatedly with water, eating a slice of bread, and drinking a glass of a different whisky. The worst whisky I've ever had. Nose: Sweet and concentrated. I want to say coffee liqueur, but I feel like it’s partly psychosomatic. Rich toffee, vanilla extract, s’mores, and banana candies. Some sugared raisins and prunes. A bit of a cooked vegetable thing. Not terrible… Palate: Salty up front, then... Bitter, bitter, bitter. Tastes like expired medicine and acid. Finish: Uncomfortably long and extremely bitter. Overbrewed coffee, burnt sugar, old metal, ash, salt, and soggy cardboard.
I tried this one on 2 occasions, with months between. Just to be sure I didn't make a mistake the first time, because I couldn't believe my own tastin notes ... Well ... the second time confirmed the first notes. ink, oyster sauce (but worse). I don’t like it because I think there’s nothing to like in this over caramelized salty soapy dirty … buurrrppss foaming vomit ... that's what this shit is. The bottlers should be called : 'The Tasteless Bastards'
A strange aftertaste remains over the finish. It's also like rubber. I don't want to drink the next bite too much.
