Very fruity with an austere note that is usually very typical for Irish, I would not call it a fruit bomb yet as it is not too sweet which is good - really good stuff!

Waxy, custard cream and Uber fruity great selection from the Nerds

So maritime and fresh that I somehow didn't get the otherwise typical waxiness. But it doesn't matter, this maritime touch is very tasty.

Truly a very good whisky and certainly in the upper ranges of what this vintage (and others from the mid-1990s) generally has to offer.

I have been asked by Whiskybase to remove my previous rating as the bottle was not officially released some weeks ago and it looked a bit odd. Nevertheless I was able to try this one next to other Clynelish 1996 end of last year and I can only re-confirm that this is an absolute stunner and fruit bomb. For me slightly better than the Koi Series WID:174595 and on the same level than the Clans WID:172849 - if I would have to chose between the 3 I would go for the Clans as it is slightly more balanced (we talk about inches here.. )

A whisky drunk in the blind, in two different glasses ... And let's say that I had a good time, thinking of drinking two different whiskys. In Copita: Super nice whisky with a beautiful exoticism. 92 I had gone on a Glengoyne from the 70s, to say the least. In Glencairn: Pretty and delicate. A much more noticeable and disturbing caramel. 89/90 I was thinking of an Irish from the early 90s. I can just advise investing in good glasses ...

A solid Clynelish, there's nothing to criticize and there's a lot of quality, but it lacks that certain something for more than 90-91 points. Expectations are high for a 24yo Clynelish, and if you find little to no smoke and comparatively little wax, you're probably a little disappointed. However, in terms of quality, it is still a wonderful malt. Just under 91 points.

The finish is slightly disappointing but it's still magnificent overall.

The nose is spicy and fruity ... here, too, an exciting nose! The taste impresses with hay notes for a short time and then there is a lot of spice. Far too much seasoning that the barrel is definitely over. In direct comparison to the https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/187917/clynelish-1996-sb he is a little behind, but both are far from any prices they could fetch. Very long finish / bitter

After tasting WB187917, it is hardly alcoholic in my opinion. I really like the mix of lots of honey, some wax and tropical fruits. Creamy mouthfeel, beautiful oak on the finish and some passion fruit

It came today so I cracked open the bottle. I gave it already two shots and it can' t cross the 90 score. Very complex honey, wax and fruity Clynelish but I feel too much peppery and alcohol notes. I will give it some more time and a two other Cly's for comparison.

A beautiful fruity Clynelish in bourbon casks.

The biggest problem is that it lacks a waxy feel; it even feels a bit like a Grand Crown.

Very fruity with an elegant mineral balance, all coated in wax and perfectly integrated from nose through to finish. Quintessential 90's Clynelish!

Clynelish 1996 distilled in June of that year. That may explain the summery smells in the glass. First some yellow fruit, ripe bananas, then a tropical touch of pineapple and mango. Honey and the typical beeswax of course, but much fresher than the sometimes "thick" domination that you sometimes find in other Clynelish. More subtly present here. On the tongue, the recognition of the standard 14 Years Old bottling immediately, but with an infinite number of extra layers and - strikingly - a greasy wax experience. Belgian waffles, egg cake, a little sweetness, no sourness. Solid, complex backbone. Incredibly clever how unmistakably Clynelish this is, with everything that makes this distillery so beautiful. Really a classic textbook example. Took a break, the scent continues to develop into exuberant yellow fruit. Experience the aftertaste again with a drop of water. It fell away a bit with the first sip, a touch of hot alcohol. But now nice and juicy and there is still the sourness I expected because of the age and barrel influence. Speaking of which, the barrel was not very active so the distillate can really shine. A top selection by WhiskyNerds! With so many examples of Clynelish, the trick is to bottle an ultimate and we succeeded. The best word to describe this for me is "classic". A modern classic!

It's a pleasant vanilla honey scent, but it doesn't have a cat waxy texture, and it lacks the so-called cat-like odor.

It's very nice whisky. Furity nose, but for us too alcohol on the nose and palate is not complex as expected, finish to bitter to get higher score. Nice Clynelish but had much better ones.

This was more enjoyable than the 1995 Clynelish from Single Cask Nation, but it paled in comparison to the 1992 Clynelish 21 Year from Cadenhead. I’m not going to judge an independent bottler by just one release, but this first impression from Whisky Nerds is disappointing. There’s too much heat, from a 24 year release, no less, and it distracts in every sip, and I’ve had plenty of other bottles with higher ABV that was much more balanced in comparison. There’s some potential here, and you can taste some Clynelish, but it feels off. Compare this to the 1992 Clynelish 21 Year from Cadenhead, and there’s no comparison. The 1992 21 Year Clynelish is balanced, there’s a beautiful brightness, almost like citrus on a sunny day, with rich honey, apples, caramel and less bitterness than this bottle.

Nose: aormatic, pear and green apple, wax, tangerine, pineapple, malty, heather, some lime and solvent Palate: Creamy, round, pleasing, pear and green apple, tangerine, blossom honey, vanilla, heather, lime Finish: medium length, waxy, astringent, pear, lime, malty Rating: a nice whisky with an interesting play of aromas: fruit notes, citrus freshness, some wax. It offers good entertainment. 87/100 or 6/10

Quite tasty, but you have to be in the mood for the strong spice

Good stuff, but it failed to showcase the unique flavor characteristics of the Clynelish Distillery.
