В аромате доминирует Laphroaig — йод, пыльная зола, костровой дым, солёно-морской бриз, поверх которых проступают мёд, ваниль, печёное яблоко, груша и цитрус, а также кожа, воск Clynelish и копчёное мясо Mortlach; вклад Bowmore улавливается слабо. Вкус плотный и кремовый, с мягким восковым началом, которое переходит в нарастающий дым, соль и йод при 46–48% и хорошо держит сладость (марципан, спелая груша) против сухости. Послевкусие длинное, сухое и зольное, с пряностью, красными фруктами, кофе и минеральной нотой, хотя один автор счёл его не слишком мощным. Опытные ревьюеры сходятся в том, что купаж собран мастерски: Laphroaig ведёт, а остальные компоненты аккуратно встраиваются позади, и версия кажется характернее и интереснее прошлых; они точнее разбирают составляющие (воск Clynelish, мясо и пряность Mortlach), тогда как менее опытные признаются, что за торфом Laphroaig прочих составляющих почти не различают. Основная и по сути единственная критика — избыточная сухость и горечь к концу плюс «раздавливающее» доминирование Laphroaig, из-за чего один автор счёл вещь не своей. Разброс оценок узкий (86–89) и одинаково высокий у обеих групп, так что согласованность вердикта высокая: сбалансированный, торфяно-дымный купаж без слабых мест.

The Laphroaig character really stands out for me here. I can also detect the waxiness of Clynelish and the subtle floral complexity of Bowmore. I find this expression significantly more interesting and characterful than previous iterations.

A pour and a liberal sample from my friend Hans. One of the few new bottles I feel I "need" after having a try.
Нос 89 On my second go at this one I get a much clearer perception of the Laphroaig which I struggled a bit with on the first glass. At 15 years and only bourbon cask the peat have receded and mellowed a bit, and the fruity bits are brighter than with a sherry cask mix. I imagine I can pick up a little meat and spice from the Mortlach as well as a hint of waxy Clynelish. The Bowmore eludes me, but then in my opinion Bowmore have lost all consistency and anything under 20YO can be all over the place. And even if I get notes of leather, not old and crackly but soft and well cared for Connolly mixed with hot engine fumes I doubt this is from the Bowmore/Aston Martin colaboration.
Вкус 90 I wouldn't say light, but it has a very gentle arrival with an almost waxy mouthfeel. From then on it's upwards on bold notes. Smoke, although not overly peaty to start with, but it develops in that direction towards the end. Salty, and more iodine than I have come to expect from Laphroaig lately.
Финиш 87 Spice grow into the finish, and the peat also becomes more definable along with sweet red fruit.

The blend of Bowmore, Laphroaig, Clynelish, and Mortlach, it smells & tastes as well as it reads. The Laphroaig drives and everything else slots right in behind it. Very decent.

Clynelish matured in a refill sherry butt (6.0%), and - 13 y.o. Highland Malt Blend matured in a high toast, custom French oak cask (0.5%) Aggregate age: 15.7 years

This was a sample courtesy of Peatbogger. I could afford Compass Box back in the day but it has now become a victim of it's own success, for us that is, not them. This by the way is a good balanced vetted malt.
Нос 84 I'm not that good at detecting other whiskies in this, I get the Laphroaig alright, anything else has been bullied out. Nice though and what you would expect, iodine and dusty ash. You can make out the fruit notes and I am hoping it will be well balanced because that is what I'm feeling.
Вкус 88 Yeah the balance is good and what comes along with it is a certain dryness and for me in this case is a good thing. At 48% it's just right, you want a kick to go with It. After a few sips the fruit notes start to arrive first, be it only for a short time then stand back and wait for the peat explosion.
Финиш 86 A long finish and again the balance is good but eventually succumbed by the Laphroaig and his size tens. Dry and ashy at the very death.

Very fine and charcoal smoke. Blackish particles clog the throat and lungs. Motor oil, diesel oil, old tire, rusty nails. It's Laphroaig. Marriage with the old smoked meat of Mortlach, the greasy wax of Clynelish, and some white fruits of Bowmore. Beautiful assembly, it is successful as always at Compass Box. In the mouth, nice balance between thick peat and a nice sweetness. Genoise, marzipan. Juicy pear and some vegetable fragrance. Very nice finish, but not very robust, quite long however, a bit of coffee, cold meat, charcoal and earth. I really liked that one. An interesting bottling with a very strong smoke and a fairly full body. Sweet but also quite dry. Well made, but not really my type as it is too bitter.
Нос 88 Here it is fun to "look behind" the smoke. It is quite strong, has a very nice maritime feel, and there is also a salty breeze. In addition, there are lovely notes of honey, vanilla, baked apple, caramel, smoked salt, iodine, candied lemons, fresh pears, lavender and lemon balm, a hint of saffron, linen cloth, oak spice.
Вкус 87 It has a very fresh taste and has a strong smoke. Very creamy in the mouth. Dry, salty-maritime smoke, iodine, seaweed, fresh breeze, brine water, caramel, grapefruit, lemon zest, tonic water, sour fries, honey cake, oak spice.
Финиш 86 Medium-length finish. Quite dry towards the end. Smoke, salt, iodine, mineral water, algae, burnt grapefruit, espresso, grape seeds, oak spice.
