In general, not bad, but it is weaker, although more expensive

quite nice, peaty and fruity, some vanilla, appes and pears. a bit more alcohol would give it a bit more punch, making it perhaps even better.

Peppery ash, very heavy peat, fresh iodine. Intense fruit, apple compote, cherry marmalade, cinnamon, muscat grapes. Then the ashes return. And the fruit. And more ashes. Nice drizzle of vanilla, Mirabelle plums, lemon pulp. After a while it gets really creamy. Very nice balance. Very oily and spicy palate, paprika and pepper on the tip of the tongue. Ice cream, vanilla, melon, candied cherry. The finish is a little light, but quite long, chocolate with hazelnuts, the bitterness of cocoa, some earth, coffee grounds. It covers the mouth. Truffle crumbs. Until now, I had never been particularly impressed with Compass Box. Blended Malt is so nice for the mind and body. It's worth trying something other than Cask Strength whiskey sometimes. It has everything here, a lot of sweet smoke, smoked fruit, sweetness and delicate pepperiness. A great and very delicate whisky, perfect as a Daily Dram. Moreover, the price is very good.

Quite standard and average, it seems more gradual than stated. This is definitely not a monster! Smoothed whiskey.

#0325 Compass Box - The Peat Monster Arcana 46% ...it's not bad. It's not an Islay vibe, but it's a Talisker, coastal one. The name "THE PEAT MONSTER" is a bit of an exaggeration (perhaps due to the use of the basic Monster). ARCANA is a slightly smoother version of the "monster," more subtle, even delicate (or maybe I'm already "overindulged"?). The bottle, or rather its contents, are worthy of attention. It's not flat or bland. ARCANA has something to like. It's drinkable, even interesting. If anything, take it and don't ask if it's worth it.

Extremely impressive. It’s practically a Talisker, but it’s much closer in profile to old waxy/tropical Talisker than young peppery/peaty Talisker. It’s mellow, but balanced and very complex. I’ll chalk up that hit of nuttiness, baking spices, and vanilla to the French oak casks. I’m not sure that Compass Box has really accomplished their goal of a French-oak-matured Peat Monster, since it doesn't really taste like that traditionally Caol Ila-forward blended malt, but what they have crafted is a precocious and delicious Talisker. Nose: It’s definitely Talisker-forward: there’s lots of sea salt, fragrant black pepper, fresh apples, pineapples, and pears. Grilled pork chop, soot, tide pools, and candle wax. Some delicate barley notes and toasted marshmallows, as well as orange sherbet, grapefruit peel, and dried flower petals. Star anise, clove, sesame, and mustard seed. Creamy cappuccino. Palate: Medium-oily texture. Wax, toffee, orange peel, key lime, and coffee up front. Softly floral and perfumed. Rich sooty smoke on the development, with crystallized pineapple, damp hay, surf-drenched barley, candied nuts, and vanilla. A sudden blast of toasted sesame seeds, along with spicy cinnamon and ginger-spiced dark chocolate. Finish: Medium-long, leaving a light texture. Savoury and nutty. Notes of soy sauce and nori join the sesame to complete the shoyu ramen effect. Milk chocolate, cloves, smoked fudge, and grapefruit. Cider-braised pork, pumpkin spice latte, black pepper, seawater, and dank smoke.

CB's Arcana gives me a cold surface but hot and naughty heart, cinnamon, sea salt, heavy peat, fruit with chocolate, wood fragrance, which is a very surprising and interesting attempt!

The nose reminds me (thanks to the power of suggestion) of the Talisker DE: apricot, peach, maritime notes, but everything is much more reserved than the model from Skye. In direct comparison, I don't notice anything from the classic Peat Monster or Ardbeg. Very full and soft in the mouth, with fruity notes and some pepperiness. The finish reveals a melange of apricot, peach, chocolate, peat, light ash and a great oiliness. Length: 6/10 The upgrade turned the original Peat Monster into a classic Talisker. Compared to the DE, the nose is a little too cautious, what happens in the mouth is beyond any doubt. Only the PLV is unfortunately not correct. Grade: 2+

Aroma sits warm and buttery with a profoundly fruity presence mixed with light smoke and a dusting of vanilla accented desserts – it’s nice, but feels like it’s missing something; Palate comes through like a smoked banana’s foster with a malty / graham essence and a touch of marshmallow sweetness; Finish is a dialed back expressions of the palate with more smoke

Very nice blend. Is comparable to the good single malts
