Given the almost outrageous price that Midleton is asking for a 13yo with 46%, I would have been pleased if this Gold Spot had not met my expectations. But unfortunately it was awesome. The nose and taste are a single pot still dream. The finish lags a little behind, but that hardly spoils the very good overall impression. So I bit into the sour mango and bought a bottle to complete the spot collection. To put a positive spin on the purchase: as a Midleton fan, you really can't avoid this bottling.

Convincingly Delicious Midleton’s Gold Spot is a 13 year old Single Pot Still whiskey matured in a trio of casks: bourbon, sherry and Recioto della Valpolicella, a velvety red wine from the Veneto region of northern Italy, produced from the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. It’s a jammy, intense red wine. I’m therefore expecting a sweet Gold Spot. Ha, that nose is just plain oily, but in a very pleasant way. Farmer's butter! Underneath is a beautiful mix of vanilla, honey, BBQ pineapple, apricots and juicy peaches. But also a soft spiciness like curry (!), cardamom and cinnamon. A hint of marzipan appears and also some nougat, nuts and Mon Chéri bonbons. This is complex and inviting. A fantastic nose! As befits a pot still, it is immediately quite spicy on the palate, but that does not prevent creamy and candy notes from immediately completely captivating my taste buds. Overripe, tropical fruit is present - even more so than on the nose - and is nicely veiled by notes of nuts, marzipan and fruit cake. The nougat and Mon Chéri return in full regalia. Chocolate becomes grand to then suddenly make way for Café Noir biscuits and mocha, mashed banana and an overdose of honey. Excellent! The finish is long with the spices slowly fading away to present mainly vanilla and sweet fruit. Even in the finish it remains creamy. Convincing and delicious single pot still whiskey. Expect 140 EUR. Worth every penny.

Man, why do I have such a thing for Irish pot still whiskeys... I really have a soft spot for them.

The Gold Spot is a 13-year-old, triple-distilled pot still whiskey. I can't find any indication that it's not chill-filtered or colored. I still don't think that's acceptable for whiskeys in this price range, as this Gold Spot will retail for €140 to €150 in early 2025. A great pot still whiskey that is almost too drinkable. Great combination of aromas that constantly changes between wood, spices and fruit.

Yes, Gold Spot is always a great whiskey! But considering the outrageous price, this whiskey is a total flop! It lacks the exclusivity, depth and wow effect that I was so expecting. I prefer the "regular" version for half the money...

I cant understand the hype, this is a very overrated whiskey.

N - Lactic, Raisin, Fodder, Berries, Malty P - Honey, Malty, Fresh Fruit F - Honey, Vanilla

N-Brioche and dried yellow fruit (pineapple). Valpolicia influence very evident. T-buttery on taste and texture, though contradictorily a touch thin. Red berries and tannis. F-medium with pot still spices finally appearing This is a decent whiskey for those who love a strong red wine finish. For me it is extremely overpriced, and lighter in body for a pot still than I like. The cask has robbed it of the liveliness I love with spot whiskies.
